From: Warren Melnick <warren.melnick@astata.com> Subject: RE: deals on blanks? Date: Tue, 1 May 2001 17:01:03 -0400 I believe that cassette house's (http://www.cassettehouse.com) 5-packs of DDS 90 meter tapes (HP-manufactured Seagate) that are on sale this week for $7.50 ($1.50 each) are probably the best deal around. I use them extensively and have had no problems at all with them. Now if someone could explain the numerous problems I have had with blank TDK MiniDV tapes...but that's a bit off topic. All The Best, W =====Original Message===== From: acffh [mailto:morst@itis.com] Sent: Tuesday, May 01, 2001 4:08 PM To: cds@bilner.com; dat-heads@datheads.phish.net Subject: deals on blanks? $2.25 for sony dds 60 and 90 meter (DG-60P and DG-90P) from http://oade.com works better than any deal I have ever heard of, also I think cascade will match that, their info was posted here recently. . . http://www.cascademedia.net/cgi-bin/cascade/dat is the link. Disclaimer: I am not an employee of either company and personally have never heard of cascade before, although they have a very professional-looking website. I have been dealing with the oades for over five years, and been very satisfied with everything they've helped me with. I would go to them, as they have a history of being leaders in the field of portable remote recording and they're also really cool guys. Further ideas- for audio grade tapes, the HHb's (DAT-125) are of excellant quality, I suggest Full Compass in madison WI http://www.fullcompass.com or the aforementioned cascade. Full compass will match advertised prices and are also very professional, I have dealt with them here in madison for several years, and althought they are kinda corporate, they can get good deals for you. -tom From: "Your Friend, Bill W." <cds@bilner.com> Subject: deals on blanks? From: "Vikas Bhatia" <vikas@breakerfall.net> Subject: DAT > CDR setup Date: Tue, 1 May 2001 15:05:01 -0500 trying something out here, and right now i'm having some problems, so maybe someone can help out. i was converting my DAT master to CDR but the burner keeps flashing "cannot record" so i'm assuming this is an SCMS issue. i taped the show on a Sony TCD-D100 and am playing the tape on my sony PCM-R300 > optical cable > Pioneer PDR-555RW. the tape used is a Sony Pro-Grade 125 minute tape. any help is appreciated. thanks!

From: a.patrizio@verizon.net Subject: Pink Floyd '94 tour Date: Tue, 1 May 2001 18:17:05 -0400 hey folks, I need to upgrade quite a bit for this tour. There were about 110 shows, I only have about 15-20 DAT clones (most of the rest I have on cassette). Anyhow, my objective is get a clone from each show of the entire tour. Tall task, for sure, but it'll be fun trying. So, if you have any DATs from the 1994 Pink Floyd North American and European tours, please, please, please get in touch. Have lots of old Floyd to offer. No CDR, please. DAT trades only. Known digigen and gear info is a huge plus, as I collect multiple sources. From: "Bill W." <cds@bilner.com> Subject: Pro DAT deck service in Los Angeles area? Date: Tue, 1 May 2001 16:31:42 -0800 I'm getting some intermittent digi-noise on playback from my Panasonic SV-3800 even after regular use of a TDK RCL-11 cleaner tape. Can anyone *enthusiastically* recommend a shop (or individual) to take it to for a tune-up? What should I expect to pay? Thanks, Bill

Take back your Charlotte km140 sources. Take back Joe Piscapo. So anyway... just back from U2 at minne, Target Center. From God's lips to your ears. Offering in trade; U2 at Target Center Minneapolis MN 5-1-01 Aud, FOB, DFC. Recorded using Shure Beta98 w/rpm108 card caps>sound devices mp2>pcm m1 FYI, a recent post suggested taping from the heart was an ideal location. WRONG. Due to the odd, overhanging PA set-up you'll come away with crap. Mid-floor just outside of the heart or side stage is a better spot. If you're running cards aim them to a point high above the stage. ISO U2 from the current tour, only. Will offer this up for general trade or tree it at some point in the future. Please no grovels in the meantime. CDR only. I dont want the wear on my DAT recorders. Send me a note with U2 Minne as the subject along with a list of your masters or sources from the current tour. WARNING:You'll want to be sitting down when you push play on your cd player for this one. I take no responsibility for those who do not heed this warning. Suggestion: pop in disc 2, listen to Bad and Where The Streets Have No Name first to cleanse the pallet, then pop disc1 in your player and go from there. Michael in Mad City

From: Nick Georges <nick@nickspicks.com> Subject: Oktava microphones Date: Wed, 02 May 2001 09:02:18 -0700 Anyone use these? I'm thinking about trying out a matched pair. The MC012's or the KM201s, not sure which yet and that is where I need the feedback. The 012s come w/3 sets of capsules, where as the 201s only come w/one set and are around $300 more a pair. The sound room, which is the only distributor (??) calls the km201s the "cream of the crop" and favorably compares them to the neumann km184. They claim superiority actually. Has anyone used/heard the KM201's before? Ive got several recordings from the MC012s, and I think they sound excellent. Very excellent for the $$. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all. -- *** www.nickspicks.com ***

From: <jff@ix.netcom.com> Subject: Radio Shack NiMH Power Pack Date: Wed, 02 May 2001 12:00:59 -0600 I got one of the Radio Shack Power Packs (23-047) that people were asking about last week. Had to order over the net, as none of the stores in NYC had them in stock. The unit is pretty neat, it is a bit smaller than an M1, has selectable 2, 4.5, 6, 7.5 or 9 Volt output, weighs a bit less than the Sonic Studios BC-1 C-cell with alkeline cells (13 oz). I have been running my M1 now for eight hours on the 4.5 volt setting, on record. Still going strong. The pack heats up a lot when charging, but has temperature and voltage sensing cut-offs. I let it charge until the charging light went out, used it six hours yesterday and started up again this morning. The use light should go from green to red before it shuts down, I want to see how much warning it gives before the M1 shuts off, but 8 hours cuts it for me. The unit comes with a case that clips to a belt, and various tips ("B" fits the M1 okay, but I may try to get a dedicated cord that feels less flimsy - make sure you get the polarity correct!!). From: Markus Einarsson <eagleman@lysator.liu.se> Subject: Sony TCD-D7 + CSB Date: Wed, 2 May 2001 18:17:09 +0200 (MET DST) Hi, I'm about to buy a Sony TCD-D7 portable DAT to use with my Core Sound Binaural mics. The plan is to record concerts at some summer festivals, where the volume tends to be quite loud. Do you recommend connecting the CSB:s to the TCD-D7's mic-in using an 20 dB attenuator cable, or is it safer to use line-in only? Is there anything about using CSB:s with a TCD-D7/8 you think I should know? / Markus
From: music rules <lilith_head@yahoo.com> Subject: Knopfler - Security & Sound? Date: Wed, 2 May 2001 10:13:58 -0700 (PDT) Just wondering what security has been like for the Mark Knopfler shows thus far, especially after hearing rumors that he's not against fans taping (though apparently not to the extent of officially endorsing this either :). How has the sound quality been for his tour? (guess this partly depends on the PA system at the particular venue) Thanks for any thoughts on the above. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
