Hi Heads, if you want to make great quality VCD and SVCD's use the guides
and software from this page:
http://www.dvdripguides.com/
also...
www.vcdhelp.com
The SVCD quality is AMAZING!! Although if you are transferring VHS to SVCD
you can't expect the quality to improve so don't be disappointed.

Yep, different, but seem to be working fine so far... on about the 4th or
5th box & the error rates are
comparable to the old style... The experiment continues...

the archive/python drives don't read LP mode tapes (at least not on an SGI)

I'm looking to get a set of non stealth mics and would appreciate some
input.
Ideally the mics would be stealth capable but this is not a must have
feature. Brands I'm interested in include Sennheiser , AKG and Geffel
now these may not be entry level but then again I might have to re
evaluate my desire to spend my nest egg.. :O)
my budget is around 600-1000 and I would need phantom power and
possibly a pre amp I have run sennheisers with a pre amp and got nice
results but that might have been luck . I'd be willing to spend more
but I get very few open taping opportunities the stealth mics get tons
more use but i would like to have some non stealths for those rare
chances.
So what i'd like is a equipment list ie brand, model # and approximate
cost, preferably from the three brands listed but if you have a cheap
smoking set up from an alternative manufacturer i'd be happy to get your
input as well.
main usage would be in mid size venues with occasional outdoor usage as
well.

The steel cabinet should form a Farady Cage.

Thinking of putting an A/C unit in the window about 18 inches from the
steel file cabinet I store my tapes in. I welcome opinions on whether
this is advisable. If you reply off list, please use datjams@aol.com .

Hello,
I taped Muse and Feeder last night at the Theaterhaus here in Stuttgart
Germany. The recording came out quite good (though the Muse part is a bit
bassy, but nothing EQing can't fix). Security was non-existant and I could
walk in with my equipment in the pockets of my jacket ;) I taped with my
OKM-II Rock Studio microphones, a Sony SBM-1 and a Sony PCM-M1
(OKM-II>SBM1>M1). The Feeder set was 47 minutes and the Muse set was
somewhere between 70 and 90 minutes (haven't listened to everything yet).
I'm ready for some trades and I'm currently looking for recent Weezer shows
as well as any Smashing Pumpkins, Queens of the Stone Age, Garbage, Local H
shows and PJ Official boots I don't have. You can find my list at
http://foo.dyndns.org/trades/
Thanks for the bandwidth ;)

Can anyone (Gary?) suggest a site(s)/ books that would give me good insight
into MPEG1 and MPEG 2 compression and DVD? Im interested in the differences;
the compressions used, the thought process behind it. Ive found magazines
that do an overly superficial glossing over or books that only a
mathemetician would enjoy. Im looking for something in between. Thanks.
