Eliminating the need for 2 dat decks to clone?

I'm going to see John Mayall on 5/13, and was wondering if anyone knows

need to go in stelath mode for this one. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Date: Mon, 7 May 2001 22:00:00 -0400
I received a bunch of emails from other people looking for some
more info on the Blue Tube, so I decided to post all of my findings
here.
The #1 issue with the Blue Tube is that it is only AC. This is a problem
that I already had to tackle with the Audio Buddy. I went to my local
Target (Wal-Mart type store) and picked up a little nifty unit called
The Pocket Generator. This little gadget is a rechargeable battery
with an 50watt AC/DC converter built right into it. It has the same kind
of plug on it thats currently in your wall!! Right now I use it
to power my Audio Buddy and my A/D converter. I used to power my
deck with it too but it ran out of juice during a long show once so
I don't do that anymore. It cost me $40.
Here are the official specs:
============================================================================
===================
Input:
Neutrik Combo XLR connectors
Output:
XLR and 1/4"
Panel Controls:
Tube Drive 0db to +30db

Performance:
THD - Noise (Unweighted) <0.05%
Signal to Noise >90db
Power Supply Rejection >98db
Amplifier Type Dual Servo
Physical:
Weight 7lbs!!
Dimensions 8" x 4.5" x 1.75"

>stats are also a bit iffy... (tubes are inherently noisy, which for

From the reviews that I've read, and the first hand experience
of the first email, it looks like it might be worth checking out.
For the price, I can't really go wrong...and its something that
I can get without selling my other gear first. If anyone has any
other advice, or can see some faults in the technical info
above, please let me know. Thanks for all the help...

Been fooling around with the latest version of Pro Tools from Digidesign...
great stuff!
Runs on just about every machine in the house w/ enough RAM - and _finally_
in a version
that runs under Windoze... including the evil thang' that is Win 2K/ME... ;)
(Still not quite a
stable OS, IMO...)
8 input tracks, various basic plugins, bunch of MIDI channels and control
interfaces, and excellent
.PDF manuals and documentation.
go to http://www.digidesign.com , find the "store" and get the free
download,or spring for
the extra cost of shipping and have 'em send you the disc.
Seems to co-exist nicely w/ the VX Pocket and the current laptop as well...
Now where did I put that
extra battery? ;]
Now if I can just tweak it to import direct from already burned CDs... ;)
Anybody got any utilities
that'll turn CDaudio or .wav files into PT recognizable data?

The only Sony STD-9000's that support audio are the ones contracted by
SGI for their workstations and servers. Your standard off-the-shelf
STD-9000 won't do audio. As far as I know, there is no firmware
upgrade that can be done to the off-the-shelf STD-9000's to upgrade
them to audio-capable; unlike the Conner/Archive/Seagate drives that
will accept the SGI firmware.
You can buy a Sony STD-9000 from SGI, but you'll pay 2-3 times what
CDW wants.
But in answer to your question, yes, it would be possible, with one
of these drives, to go DAT->computer->DAT at 4x.

I've only gone through one box of ten so far so YMMV, but I noticed
nothing different from the old-style Sony DGP's. I used them in my
Sony PCM-M1 and PCM-2500a/b both for dubs and for field recording.
