From: Simona Sanvito <d87ss@morgan.ucs.mun.ca> Subject: DAT ID recognition Date: Sat, 12 May 2001 11:10:34 -0400 Dear List Members, I have a large amount of DAT recordings of elephant seals vocalizations. Until now I have manually digitized each segment of the tape to preserve the identification of the segment as recorded by the ID number on the DAT tape. I use to digitize the sounds using Pro Tools and an Audio media III card. To my best knowledge, Pro Tools is not abel to read the ID number on the DAT tape. I would like to know if there is any software which is able to read the DAT ID number and save it within the corresponding audio file. This way I should be able to automatically digitize a whole tape with each segment identified in the file by its original ID. Thank you very much for you help Simona Sanvito -- \\\|/// \\ - - // ( @ @ ) ========oOOo=(_)=oOOo======= Simona Sanvito, PhD candidate Biology Dept. From: "EZ Rider" <ez.rider@gte.net> Subject: Audiophile 2496 and Windows volume control?? Date: Sat, 12 May 2001 10:37:01 -0400 Hi I have replaced my analog sound card with the M-Audio Audiophile 2496. It seems to work fine for digital transfers of DAT to my HD, and plays back my WAV and MP3 files just fine with one wrinkle which I wish I could smooth out. The AP 2496 card comes with a patchbay and monitor/mixer built into rom and it's own GUI to display and allow you to make changes to the routing of signals into and out of the card. The problem is that since installing that card, the Windows (W98SE) volume control, nor the volume control on Window software like Windows Media Player, WinAmp, or MusicMatch do not work. The only way I can control the volume is via the mixer/monitor applet that comes with the sound card. This seems like an incomplete interface with Windows and incorrect. Has anyone else encountered this problem, and more to the point, has anyone else managed to use this card and have their windows software volume controls work? Feedback and instructions appreciated. Thanks michael otto

From: jay@3rdperson.com Subject: dat2wav Date: Sat, 12 May 2001 11:24:58 -0700 Does anyone know how long it's going to take before I get my registration key for Dat2wav? I sent them my credit card info yesterday but haven't heard anything. If I wasn't so eager to put some of my more recent dats on CD I wouldn't care, but after buying the damn seagate dds from www.mashek.com (thanks to whomever posted that on this list) and only being able to extract the first 5 minutes, I'm somewhat restless. Thanks for the info. Jay

From: "Chris van Rensburg \(a.k.a. Tom Kidding\)" <chris@tomkidding.com> Subject: FS: Assorted HOSA studio patching cables Reply-To: chris@tomkidding.com Date: Sat, 12 May 2001 14:30:00 -0700 An assortment of HOSA studio patching cables. These economy cables offer a perfect way to start off a studio without spending too much. One day you may wish to treat your studio to several hundred dollars worth of cables (like I just did...OUCH!), but until then, these cables can get the job done well enough. This item is currently being auctioned on eBay at... http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1430335563 Current bid, last time I checked was just $17.99. Snatch these cables up and get a great deal. Added up, this collection of cables would retail for around $85!! -- Regards, Chris (a.k.a. From: "Gary Davis" <gdavis@loop.com> Subject: Kid-Nappster Reply-to: gdavis@loop.com Date: Sat, 12 May 2001 19:08:52 -0700 This week's "season finale" of Futurama (Fox, Sun, 7pm) takes a decidedly anti-Napster position by predicting a future where people download celebrities into "blank robots" and then make out with them. BTW, I've put this episode and the recent "Beck/Hippie band tour" episode onto a VCD, along with some Phish and other drug humor - email if you'd like a copy. --Gary

From: Sebastian Boschert <sebi@foo.dyndns.org> Subject: ISO: Someone from London Date: Sun, 13 May 2001 09:41:55 +0200 Hello! I'll be in London, UK with my English class from July 1 until July 7. After looking what's going on there at Pollstar I found out that one of my favorite Bands, Weezer, will play at the Shepherd's Bush Empire on 7/3, 7/4 and 7/5. I'd definately want to attend this show while I'm there so I thought I could meet up with someone from London who at least knows where the venue is ;) Also, I'd like to tape that show (audio) so any taping advice for London is welcome. Please e-mail me privately - Thanks in advance! -- Sebastian Boschert E-Mail: sebi at foo dot dyndns dot org ICQ: 2010141
