While my deck is in the shop I have an old D3 I browwoed from someone and
am a bit confused by it, especially the battery situation. I have
attached arechargable battery pack; does anyone know how long it takes to
charge this thing gfully, and how long it should last for recording
purposes when fully charged? Also, is there a way to use regular
batteries instead of tha battery pack? Or would I need a different pack
for that? I can't figure out any place to put batteries into the deck
itself or the pack.
If there are any other significant differences between this deck and the
D8 I am used to using, I'd love to know about them as well. Thanks.
Rob

The only way I know of doing this is using an audio-capable DDS drive.
Andrew Taylor has written a nifty little utility that extracts a ".wav"
file and a ".details" file (containing the ID code, etc.) for each track
on a DAT tape. You can find it at:
http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/~andrewt/read_dat/
take care,
Andy

How is this anti-napster? This sounds decidedly pro-napster to me.

ATTENTION ALL FOB TAPERS!
I am looking for tapers with "headdy" stealth FOB's.
(B&K's, Schoeps, Neuman's, MBHO's, etc.)
I have many masters from late 2000-recent, but am always looking for other crispy gems. I am NOT interested in any CSB-style tapes at this time. I am very limited on time and money right now, so I need to be picky.
Here are a few recent masterpieces I have for trade:
My Setup: MBHO 603A/KA200N's>MP-2>SBM-1>D100
U2
04/06/01 Pepsi Center - Denver, CO. (125 min.)
from inside the heart, dead center.
AC/DC
04/11/01 Pepsi Center - Denver, CO. (120 min.)
14th row, left of center.
Elton John / Billy Joel
04/09/01 Pepsi Center - Denver, CO. (225 min.)
1st level, 22 rows up.
Bon Jovi
04/30/01 Pepsi Center - Denver, CO. (150 min.)
13th row, right of center.
Plus many, many more...

This is by design. Drivers for Delta series cards does not support Windows
mixer device interface, which has very poor functionality to set all
mixer/patchbay parameters you can set in M-Audio applet. Maybe sometimes in
the future, but IMHO there's really no need to integrate mixer/patchbay with
that simple and incomplete Windows mixer device interface.

I've waited way too long to buy a good set of earplugs....any
recommendations? If I was wise, I would have bought them after
a white zombie show back in '93 damn near made me deaf for 4
days. But it wasn't until seeing garaj mahal last night (fareed
haque's amp was way too loud to be standing in the front row) that
I deemed it an absolute must, as many of you already know.
Not only am I wondering about brand and price info, which will
be greatly appreciated, but also wondering if anyone's had good
experiences in the bay area with audiologists making molds for
their ears? I'm looking for some recommendations for people and
approx. how much that will cost.
If I get some good feedback I will post a summary to dat-
heads, so that we don't get 20 posts about earplugs. Thanks in
advance.

Hey all. Once again, the Cowboy Junkies are going on tour. For the next two
weeks, they will be playing 40 minute sets in a variety of record/book
stores, then embarking on a major tour in June. I need to get tapes of
these shows for the archives. The shows in the record stores are free, so I
can't offer guest list or anything else, but if you are willing to tape any
of those, I'll offer up any 2 shows in return from my tape list. If you
volunteer for one of the shows from summer tour, I will put you on the guest
list +1 in exchange for a copy of the show. Thanks in advance to anyone who
volunteers. If you are interested, please drop me an email and include
whatever gear you have. Taping is audience only, but FOB is allowed.
Cheers
Candace Horgan
