From: Gianni Pavan <gpavan@cibra.unipv.it> Subject: Transfer DAT ID to audio files... Date: Mon, 14 May 2001 14:17:20 +0200 Friends, I have two special needs and I hope you'll be able to help me: 1 - I need to transfer DAT recordings to an audio file (on a PC) while preserving ID information... 1.1 - by splitting the file each time a new ID is encountered 1.2 - bye embedding ID information into the file 1.3 - by saving a txt file containing ID information 2 - After having used DATs for many years, I now usually record audio directly on a PC and my software automatically add to the filename the date and time of the beginning of each file. At present I use standard wav files, though I would like to use a format able to allow embedding date and time information (and maybe other information) within audio data every few seconds. I could develop my own format, though I would prefer to use a standard format - if it exists - to guarantee compatibility. Is there an audio file format matching my needs ? I'll appreciate your hints and comments, Gianni ============================================================== Gianni Pavan Email gpavan@cibra.unipv.it Centro Interdisciplinare di Bioacustica e Ricerche Ambientali Universita' degli Studi di Pavia Via Taramelli 24, 27100 PAVIA, ITALIA Tel/Fax +39-0382-525234 Laboratori Tel/Fax +39-0382-526208 Segreteria Web http://www.unipv.it/cibra Next IBAC meeting http://www.unipv.it/cibra/xviii_ibac.html

From: Rich Perlman <montclair@cyburban.com> Subject: ear plugs Date: Mon, 14 May 2001 13:19:49 -0400 Hey Dat-Heads, jay@3rdperson.com asked: > I've waited way too long to buy a > good set of earplugs....any recommendations? I recently bought Etymotic Research ER-20 which reduce noise 12 decibels essentially across all frequencies. They employ a tuned resonator and acoustic resistor. They do a MUCH better job than foam plugs which chop off all the highs. I thinks it's great that you can "turn down the volume" at a show and be comfortable. Best $15.00 I've ever spent. I got them at HEARNET.COM™ trademark of Hearing Education and Awareness for Rockers. http://www.hearnet.com/index.shtml This is an educational web page with links to manufacturers, audiologists, ear doctors, etc. Get educated and save your hearing so you can enjoy shows for the rest of your life. Date: Mon, 14 May 2001 16:11:28 EDT Hello everyone, I'm sorry to waste bandwidth and cross post to do this, but I'm trying to track down who taped a particular tape of mine, and have yet to come across anything. My tape, has the music at the link below as filler, and I'm figuring that if I can find out who this band is, who taped this show etc.. I might be able to find the person who originally taped the "non-filler" material .....The non-filler stuff is Phish 4-4-92 FYI. I've been searching for 9yrs for a copy of set 2 of this show, and I'm trying all avenues I know to get this accomplished. I know I'm going WAY out on a limb here, so bear with me. http://www.users.qwest.net/~zandersson/4492.html Peace, Zach Andersson

From: Steve Marshall <stevem@thenightowl.com> Subject: It's contest time at The Night Owl! (no DAT-Heads content) Date: Mon, 14 May 2001 17:46:41 -0500 Hi Everyone! It's time for another contest here at The Night Owl. As you may or may not have seen in our latest newsletter, this time, we're doing one for all the jazz collectors out there. We've got a set of the 5 latest Miles reissues -- Miles Davis At Newport 1958, 'Round About Midnight, Milestones, Jazz at the Plaza, and The Best of Miles Davis/John Coltrane (1955-1961) -- to give away to a lucky winner. The reason that this set will appeal to the collectors is because the discs are advance copies. There are no booklets, or jewel cases. They're just the CDs in black cardboard sleeves. They are *all* limited pressings. The music and sound quality is identical to the actual releases. As a special added bonus, we're going to include the press release that came with the CDs, making this set even more valuable. Of course, if you're not a collector, or you're just discovering the vast Miles Davis catalog, this is a great place to start. So take a chance and enter the contest. You've got nothing to lose and some great jazz to gain. Good luck!
