My friend has Dave Matthew tickets for Darien lake. He's a good guy and would like use my DAT(it's okay with me). As far as I know, they are not taper section so, can he just walk in with DAT/mics in hand? Sorry, not used to taper friendly bands... Thanks - Joe ------------------------------ From: Meurglys3@att.net Subject: Elton John & Billy Joel Date: Tue, 22 May 2001 13:16:29 +0000 Hello: Did anyone happen to record their recent show in Kansas. Don't know the date or venue but would like to get a copy via trade. My brother & sister in law attended and I want to surprise them with a copy of the show. http://home.att.net/~meurglys3/ Tom ------------------------------ From: Len Moskowitz Subject: MD recommendations Date: Tue, 22 May 2001 10:21:48 -0400 (EDT) The Sony MZ-R35, -R37, -R70, -R90, -R91, -R500 and -R700 have a common problem that makes them less than desirable for live concert recording: they do not have a low sensitivity setting for the mic pre-amp. So if you record loud music, the mic pre-amp will tend to overload and distort. For that reason we recommend other Sony models: the older MZ-R55, -R50 and R30; and the new -900. And the -R70 is a bit slow and noisy. (By the way, they're all fine for ripping tracks from CDs.) But in general (and except for the Sony -900), for concert recording, the Sharp MD recorders are better choices. The Sharps allow you to change recording levels while you're recording -- the Sony's require you to go into "Pause." We'd strongly recommend the Sharp MS-722, -821, -831 or -SR60. If budget is a strong consideration then we'd recommend the Sharp MT-15, MT-20 or MT-66 -- they lack the automatic gain control, have only 10 second (rather than 40 second) buffers but are still good, reliable recorders. If you already have one of the problematic Sony models, we designed a low sensitivity version of our Low Cost-series of microphones that compensates. You can use them to record loud sound sources without overloading the Sony's mic pre-amp. I hope this helps! The InBox will take any voltage between 6 and 24 volts DC, and needs only 50 milliAmps. The plug is a common mono 1/8" miniplug, tip positive. Radio Shack has a variety of NiCad and NiMH battery packs that will do the job at low cost. I hope this helps! Date: Tue, 22 May 2001 10:59:51 -0400 Hi, all. I am rather inexperienced in this field and I need some help. I've recorded a show on DAT and one on MiniDisc and I need some sort of way to transfer their pure digital information to CDs as listenable and editable master copies (my computer has no digital inputs). I tried doing this analog and, for instance, all the "silkiness" of the DAT recording was lost in the transfer. I just want the pure digital data put on a CD, from which I can either leave as-is or edit. I only have these two master discs I need transferred, so I don't want at all to go out and buy equiptment for just this small project. Is there anyone on this list that anyone can recommend who will do this transfer of these two sources to CD for me? Obviously I would need someone reputable and ethical since I will be sending my master copies to them. I don't mind at all paying for the service, but I can't pay like hundreds of dollars. I don't need tracks marked and I don't need any editing done, as I can do that myself to my own standards. I just need the data transfer in a listenable form on CD. Can you recommend anyone for this transfer? Thanks so much. - Matt ------------------------------ From: "Tatina, Bill" Subject: **Europe Tapers ** >>> Looking for **TOOL 2001**>> Euro-Tapers Date: Tue, 22 May 2001 10:20:28 -0600 Hello Fellow Tapers Overseas. While it is slightly annoying when this occurs, usually the response is much stronger than the offending problem. Really... its not a big deal if someone makes such a minor mistake and with the feedback they get it usually doesn't happen again. Unless it became more frequently I don't see this worthy of CAPS AND ASTERIXES. Sean ------------------------------ From: Stanley Willey Subject: ISO.. The sound system that is being used is wireless and the tapes in question have been made by having a wireless receiver set to the proper frequency and plugged into a DAT machine. The only thing that I could think of, that may have triggered this, is the fact that I got the Windows 2k service pack 2 last night. However, I uninstalled it and I am still getting the same problem.
