I'm not familiar with the MZ-R37, so I cannot comment on it. A test using an external A>D feeding the digital inputs of each machine would yield more meaningful results if you're just looking to compare DAT vs MD formats. This is by no means an anti-MD statement. I believe that MD has its place. However, despite significant disadvantages such as cost and the need for machine maintenance, the sound quality of DAT is better than that of MD (even if this is a difference that cannot be heard by most people). Take care, Bob (wheww...guess I was foolish to think that we had extinguished this thread) ------------------------------ From: "Uncle Remus" Subject: Jazz Mandolin Project + other SHNs (no real dat content) Date: Sun, 27 May 2001 19:11:07 -0400 ys3.eyemg.com port: 21 uid: etree pw: jmp 2 load balanced T1s - as always, downloads will be quicker during off peak hours. I have plenty of room for manouevre - the '-20db' mic-in setting is safe for almost any rock gig, and there's still the '-0db' setting for the quieter stuff. And maybe the line-in for Crazy Horse in the summer!? I'd like to credit the Oade folks for their great products and service. Cheers Richard. ------------------------------ From: "Frank" Subject: looking for Rod Stewart tapers for the following shows: Date: Mon, 28 May 2001 06:01:43 -0400 Hello- I am trying to find stealth tapers to tape any of the following Rod Stewart shows for me coming up this summer. Frank ------------------------------ From: "Ewout" Subject: $1000 rig Date: Mon, 28 May 2001 15:48:14 +0200 Hi, I have almost finished school, and i'm gonna take a sabbatical year, which is perfect for trading and taping... First off i'm gonna have to get myself a good rig. I have considered the Nomad Jukebox before, but i realised that was no option. Then i went to DAT, but some discussions on alt.music.bootlegs confused me a lot... I wanna spend like 1000 USD on my entire rig. When i do some calculation, a sony D100 will be $695, which leaves $300 for other parts. I'm afraid that'll be spend completely to mics. Now, when i think if that, i'm not sure if this will be the right combination. I don't know if $300 mics will do the D100 right, so i might as well buy a MD. I know it has a lossy filesystem, but i guess the ATRAC 4.5 is a very good algorythm... I'm afraid that the differences for stealthed bootlegs is hardly audible. There's a lot of myth hanging around DAT, which is something that bothers me a lot. I tend to believe that myth, and i even think part of it is plainly true, but on the other hand, MD is becoming good too. For a studio this would be not a choice, but for bootlegging i think it's usefull to consider these things, especially because of the price. I've looked at several mics within my budget, but that budget will change radically if i decide to go with MD. So bottomline My question is: What is the best setup for stealthing for around $1000? Should i use a pre-amp? Or even a A/D converter [which leaves no choice but to go with the DAT, so my budget will probably not allow that]? I'll probably be buying a HD recorder like the Nomad in the future when it's developed enough for recording and there are more models available to choose from, but for the moment i'll have to stick with a DAT or a MD... Thanks for info/advice cheers, Andr01d ps. I know this kind of questions have been asked before, but i realize that there's a lot of offline replying, so i hope to gather some more info here... Recorded on CSB > D8, from very close to stage front. If anyone's recording both bands on any upcoming dates and wants to trade CDRs, drop me a line. On Friday Bardo Pond played about 45-50 minutes; Mogwai played about 90, so the gig fits nicely on 2xCDRs. I also recorded Mogwai at the Somerville Theater March 27 (2xCDR). Quality on both gigs is excellent. There was some intermittent monitor feedback on a couple of songs at the Middle East. I don't need both anymore. (I still have 3 other decks.) 1) Tascam DA-20 Bought new in Nov. 95. Well taken care of. The only problem it has has was back in 10/97. It didn't like those darn DIC dats. I needed a head replacement after only ~250 hours. Since that replacement, It has seen ~300 hours. VERY little use in the last 2 years. 2) Sony PCM-R300 Bought new in 1/ 98. Just under 2 years left on extended warranty. Was sent in back in Nov. for a cleaning and alignment. It has not been used since. It still is in the unopened box. Both decks come with all the original accesories including the original box. Both used in a smoke-free environment. Never overused or abused. DA-20 ----- $400 or best offer. R300 ------- $425 or best offer. I am serious about trading for wine as well if you want to go that route. :-) Any questions, feel free to drop me a line. Here sits in a Box, some 120 Misc MDs that i just dont even have the heart to ever Play again...(but I know who will and I have arranged lately for him to transfer to DAT via an optical connection.. No Need To Apply) and again Thank you to all those who helped me along the way in 1999.. especially the Kind Man, Raymond from Holland who taught me more about Stealthing anybody else in the world... 11,500 miles in 45 days and I'm still alive peace HenryJ _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ From: "Steve and Jen Robinson" Subject: ISO David Gray in Seattle/Coldplay ticket Date: Mon, 28 May 2001 14:31:55 -0700 Sorry for the double topic...just trying to save bandwidth.
