Date: Sat, 02 Jun 2001 12:12:28 -0700 (PDT) Here goes, my bi-annual attempt at tracking down the "Fish's Forum" late night radio show from the Great Went. It featured Trey and Fishman doing weird spoken word stuff over Pangaea-era Miles Davis. It was completely bizarro, and needs to get into circulation. I thought I had an analog master tracked down but I can't seem to finalize a trade/b&p with the guy who has it. Anyone else out there care to help? I will of course offer it here on the list (even willing to tree it) and spread it far and wide on other lists as well. Plenty of goodies to trade, please get in touch and help the community get their ears on this once again. Even Kevin Shapiro needs a copy of this, so let's help him and the band out also. I'm looking for the 2 hour KCRW appearance of Beck. Loads to trade. Thanxs Steve Griff ------------------------------ From: "Joshua" Subject: Dead 4-21-84 Date: Sat, 2 Jun 2001 14:00:05 -0600 I've got a copy of this show - three disks - for whomever would like to throw them back out to the list. It was recorded on 20' spaced Neumann U87's FOB on one of the first digital recording devices...Many thanks to Don Chase for hookin me up with the set I was missing! -Josh ------------------------------ From: "Jim" Subject: $1,000 stealth rig Date: Sat, 2 Jun 2001 16:15:41 -0400 Back to the original question, I'm not sure it was ever really answered. I have a basic CSB>M1 rig, which I am quite happy with (simplify, man!). I would still prefer DAT regardless, due to time limitations of MD media among other things, but I am still wondering which is more important for sound quality: mics or recording device? In other words, would a (considerably) cheaper MD deck and more expensive mics sound better than a DAT and less expensive mics (spending the same amount of money either way)? And I'm not talking about the fact that the MD version would have missing material at the "disc flips". Nick pointed out the importance of mics, but his example would have 2 different price tags: mic>pre>MD or the same mic>pre with a DAT. Thanks, Jim ------------------------------ From: "Eric G. All Phish dats are going except : the last 2 listed. I'm looking for grateful dead and jerry that I don't have especially : toronto 06.30.87 , 1989 - 08.01.91, west coast jerry from 1989 - 08.01.91, and just about anything else. my tastes are quite eclectic. Also I'm looking for source upgrades (example: I have some mp3 sourced things I'd love to get a better source for) especially the Pink Floyd. Reply-To: Date: Sat, 2 Jun 2001 15:10:15 -0700 I remember seeing a post ahile back that talked about the block size that you should have your editing software set to. this made sure that the burner and it's software did not try to insert blank audio at the end of cuts thus allowing a seamless transition to the next track (very important for live recordings). Can someone please refresh me on what the size should be? I know some software allows the user to select the size. Any help, greatly appreciated :) BWT: I'll take the first person to respond for a B&P of Steely Dan, Irvine, CA, 9/17/94 - Bryon ------------------------------ From: Steve Marshall Subject: It's contest time again at The Night Owl! Vinesh ------------------------------ From: "Tom Baylor" Subject: Nightingale + SB Live Digital 2 Pin Connector Reply-To: "Tom Baylor" Date: Sun, 3 Jun 2001 12:46:02 -0500 Hi All- First, my computer savvy buddy looked at my Nightingale card and after a big pause said, 'This looks exactly like a Yamaha 924 board, only it says Zotrix intead of Yamaha on the chip'. Any truth to this statement - is a Zoltrix a rebranded Yamaha board? Second, I've got a SB Live Plat 5.1 card. And there is a tantilizing 2 pin digital connector that I want to hook to something and defeat the internal clock, 48.8, always resampled output from this card. I've got a Western Digital 400 drive and see no digital connections to it. So - any ideas? Anyone know what the 2 pin digital connector SB Live Plat 5.1 is supposed to do? What should I hook them to? I've got the 2-pin cable that came with the unit. Can't figure out what to connect it to or what I'll get as a result. What's the purpose of these two digital pins? The SB help file literature is lacking, to say the least.
