In great shape, functionally perfect, never a single problem. Never dropped or mishandled...always kept close to my body;-) It has the Oade coax output modification -- they swapped the 7-pin output connector and put in a coax output, ideal for use with a DA-P1 or anything which takes a coax in. If you want to run it into a Sony portable deck you'll need a coax-to-7-pin adapter (available from Core Sound, Oade, Sony, etc), which is what I did. Worked perfectly, but I came across another SBM-1 which didn't have the modification and jumped on it, advantage being one less cable to carry. Have original power supply, manual, pleather case, box, etc. Am not selling my Core Sound coax-to-7-pin cable. $300+shipping, US addresses only. Would be happy to answer (most) any questions. References available. I however didnt record all the bands that i wanted to. I am looking for: Darkstar Orchestra set II + encore Keller Williams Leftover Salmon From that festival i have DSO set I, Donna the Buffalo, Lake Trout, Dr. Didg, and The Recipe. All those recordings are SBD at 44.1kHz. If someone has the shows i am looking for and wants to setup a b&p please email me at jtrinkes@home.com Unfortunately i am a uni-decker so b&p works well for me. The other option is loan&clone. My dat list can be found here: http://www.taping.org/dat_list.txt If anyone wants a show from my list let me know, i am always looking to setup new trades. Either b&p or loan&clone work for me. TIA justin ------------------------------ From: WeAreThel@aol.com Subject: ISO mics to use for upcoming shows (a must-read) Date: Mon, 4 Jun 2001 19:54:18 EDT Hi all. This is my first post to DAT-heads. I used to use "sub par" gear, which includes the Sonic Studios DSM-6S/L mics and the Sonic Studios battery/bass rolloff box with 85 cycles of bass rolloff. Due to some problems with the right channel I had to return the mics. For the past few weeks I've been on the verge of buying a new mic setup, prefereably professional. I have come to a decision on the Neumann KM-140 mic system, a Sonosax SX-M2 pre-amp (or maybe I will get the AETA EAA PSP-2 or PSP-3 pre-amp), and then I will be uising these in conjunction with my Sony PCM-M1 deck. I record any band I can, basically. I have done about 6 shows (2 of which I boast highly of) with my old setup. I will be attending many concerts in the next month, but since the shipping for the mics I want is close to one month, I will not have any mics to use for all of these shows!! I will have the mic pre-amp and battery box by June 9th, and my first show is on June 10th. PROBLEM: I cannot find a rental place or anyone willing to lend me their mics for these shows. I will use any "pro" stealthing mic I can find. B&Ks, Neumanns, whatever. If I borrow gear from somebody I can make a deal with them to loan them money and then they can send me it back when they get their gear back (in the same condition as was received) and/or I can give them DAT clones or CD-R copies of the shows. I can even tape shows in my area for you if you wish and then give you the master DAT. I live in central NJ and will travel as far as south as Washington, DC and as far north as CT to do a show or shows for someone who helps me. The shows I will be taping are: May 6: Late Show with David Letterman - "The Back Crowes" June 10: Aerosmith and Fuel at PNC Bank Arts Center -- Holmdel, NJ June 11: U2 at First Union Center, Philadelphia, PA (**1st row of level 1 just to the side of the stage, next to speaker stack!!**) June 17: U2 at MSG, NYC (general admission ticket) June 22: U2 at Continental Airlines Arena (general admission ticket) Please write to me here or to PromTheme@aol.com ASAP. I am serious about taping and I am fairly ninja-like when it comes to stealthing. Not to mention I tend to pick nice "sweet spots" to capture a full and balanced sound. Frank ------------------------------ From: Joshua Subject: ultra-fatty, superdank windscreens Date: Tue, 05 Jun 2001 07:23:39 -0600 Howdy y'all- A while back, I posted looking for advice on windscreens for the upcoming Telluride Bluegrass Fest. As with everything else dat-related, it appears as though quality solutions are expensive. Here's what I came up with: "I also have a pair of AKGs with huge wind screens from Markertek. Can't say much for the sound, but they sure keep the wind noise out!" I looked into these - while they are supposed to keep the wind out, they also reputedly keep everything above 12kh out. "try these two places: www.markertek.com www.locationsound.com i use these guys for reference, they are a bit pricey... Neil Sturtevant Audio Products Specialist Directed Electronics, Inc. 1 Viper Way Vista, CA 92083 800-876-0800 x1242 toll free 760-599-1342 direct 760-599-3192 fax 760-599-1830 alternate fax " Didn't look there, although I'm sure they're a quality source. "I had the same problem with my 140s. I didn't have the dpa's, I had the ws100(?) neumann screens that were pretty worthless in even moderate wind. The best windscreens I found were heavy duty multi-layer windscreens from Shure. I think they are made for the sm81's. I can't remember the model #, but they don't make that many so it should be easy to figure out. Highly recommended." Another person using the fatty Shures...might be worth trying? "Air movement at or near the pick-up vents of a directional microphone causes wind noise. This movement is not related to the audio, which is a separate complex pressure wave. If the air can be slowed down or its effect on the microphone cancelled out in some way the wind noise will be greatly reduced. An excellent method is to enclose the microphone in a hollow, acoustically transparent basket or shield, which surrounds the microphone with still air. The physics is complicated to explain but this helps to cancel out a great deal of low frequency wind noise. In addition or alternatively a long-fibre Windjammer can be used which slows down the stream of noise-producing air and reduces the amount of turbulence-generated noise near the microphone. These techniques have very little effect upon the performance of the microphone. Of course no material is completely transparent to all audio frequencies and the physical proximity and finite size of the shield will have some effect on the directional properties and frequency response. We sell the best. Rycote. A setup for a stereo MS pair with suspensions is about US$700. An excellent compromise would be the use of two Rycote "softies"; US$125 each without mount. Please call for more details. See: http://www.rycote.com/Products/softies.html Thanks! -- Regards, Klay Anderson, D.A.,Q.B.E. Klay Anderson Audio, Inc. http://www.klay.com 1.800.FOR.KLAY " Prolly worth looking into - I do recall seeing one of those sheepdog lookin' things at TBF last year. "I saw your post on Dat-heads concerning windscreens. You should check out Lightwave Systems at http://www.lightwavesystems.com/. I have had pairs made for my Schoeps and they rule. You will want to get the Mini-Screens with WindMasters for when it is really blowing. They sound great and no wind can touch them. They are a bit pricey but do the trick with sensitive microphones like the Neumanns and Schoeps." I called these guys and asked about speaking some one about windscreens - all of the sudden I'm talking to the engineer/owner who's talking about custom making a pair of screens rated to 40mph for me. Knowing what I currently do, I'd prolly go with these guys. Their prices were on par with high-end solutions elsewhere, and I'm happy to support folks like this who are genuinely interested in helping you solve your problem. That's the news on 'screens...sorry to be so slow in posting it back to the list, and thanks to everyone for their feedback!! -Josh ------------------------------ From: "Joshua" Subject: New Audio Editing Discussion Group Date: Tue, 5 Jun 2001 08:03:42 -0600 hey hey There is now a forum for the discussion of all aspects of editing audio on PC and Macintosh computers...I was looking for assistance with what I wanted to do with Soundforge, and found that (other than the ZA2 group) there were none around.
