Well, it turns out that perhaps the DAW-PC group is not as active as I thought. Being a Mac kinda guy, I haven't checked in on it in some years and just figured that it had followed the ascent of the Mac list. The mac list can be found at http://www.egroups.ro/group/daw-mac, but the PC list links I have are all sorely out of date. I apologize for my rash assumption. This must mean the PC DAWs operate easily and flawlessly for there to be so little need for user discussion! :-) My bad! Correct me if I'm wrong in stating that. Should the best way forward be to look for a connector to convert these differing connector types or instead purchase a 7-pin -> coax cable? Any ideas where I can get a 'relatively' cheap one (I'm in the UK so please bear in mind shipping costs!) Your thoughts / comments would be greatly appreciated. Date: Wed, 6 Jun 2001 09:34:18 -0400 Jeff I have the AP 2496 card and it works fine. I've used it for both digital in and digital out. Only caveat is that their drivers are not "Windows aware" and you cannot control the volume output via the Windows speaker control, or MusicMatch or WinAmp or WMP volume control. You must use the mixer panel that comes provided with the soundcard. This is slightly inconvenient. M-Audio has told me that they will be coming out with new drivers eventually that will be Windows aware, but seeing is believing.... regards ezrider ============================================================================ From: "Jeff Martin" Subject: Audiophile 2496 Digi Soundcard??? Do those laws exist for recording equipment? Here in NY the law is pretty fair. I am thinking about buying a digi 001 system and I would like a digital connection to my M1. I bought a Toslink optical cable and if necessary would buy a Midiman CO2 for a Coax in/out connection to the digi 001. I am told the 001's card has Toslink in/out connections. Below are articles I could find on the subject from digidesign's website. Thanks for the bandwidth. Thomas ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Can I do DAT, Mini Disc, or CD optical transfer using the Optical input on the Digi001 card? You need to verify that the DAT, Mini Disc, or CD supports ADAT or S/PDIF optical format. Then, go to the playback engine setup: sync mode = optical. Then in playback engine setup choose "other options" and "optical format" = S/PDIF. I am getting clicks in the audio at region boundries on a Sony DTC A7 portable DAT. Doesn't happen with other DAT machines. Doesn't happen via the analog outputs either. This DAT machine does not have true S/PDIF ports. The device uses a cable adapter which bridges between the RCA S/PDIF cable to a 9 pin optical interface on the DAT machine. This cable also converts optical signals to 9 pin. The clicks are a result of an interupted sample rate clock. 14. How do I change the SPDIF format from working with my DAT coaxial connection to working with a Mini Disc optical connection? What is SPDIF mirroring? To change the SPDIF format of a session, choose Setups > Playback Engine. In order for us to change I/O labels, a session cannot be opened so when you click yes to proceed your session is automatically saved and closed and after you click done it will reopen your session. You can only use one set of SPDIF ports at a time so if you want to use the coxial SPDIF connection for your Dat machine then you need to set the Optical Format to Adat in the Setups > Playback Engine > Other Options. If you are trying to use a Mini Disc with optical SPDIF that you need to set the Optical Format to SPDIF in the Setups > Playback Engine > Other Options. IF SPDIF mirroring is on, it means that whatever is output to the main outputs 1/2 will also be 'mirrored' on the SPDIF output ports. For some applications you may want to turn off SPDIF mirroring and set the output of a track to the SPDIF outputs. ++++++++++++++++++++ -- Thomas ------------------------------ From: "Tatina, Bill" Subject: CD Media World - CD-R Quality Date: Wed, 6 Jun 2001 10:54:11 -0600 > http://www.cdmediaworld.com/hardware/cdrom/cd_quality.shtml > > ------------------------------ From: "travitz" Subject: ISO Uncle Johns Wood Shop # Date: Wed, 6 Jun 2001 13:36:10 -0400 I need to order some more racks and lost their number anyone help?? ------------------------------ From: "William J.
