well here goes an attempt to share what I have learned again from last
night....
I was at Lynyrd Skynyrd / Deep Purple last night in Minneapolis,MN
i did take in Both of my PCM-M1's, so since i was daring enough to use one
ot there devices, again, I asked for one...
well what looked like a signal coming out of unit #1 (they had like a box of
20 at personal services, each one has a Number on it in Black Magic Marker)
was a total Loss..
another words I got a tape of Just Static with litterly a barely hearable
signal...
I tried to listen with these little MONO headphones i was given with the
unit and i could not hear anything out of them....
I tried alot of different things, it was not my Cable (1/8" to 1/8" stereo)
from the device to my DAT that was junk, cause i plugged it into the other
DAT's line out to see if possibly the cable was junk, but that had a strong
signal...
I also noticed if you moved the little radio unit around or bumped it into
anything , you would get a very loud sound like somebody hammering on a
can...
so in other words, either Unit #1 is totally Junk, and i should try again
with another unit..
i did also try this at U2 on May 01 with another unit, I think it was #2 or
#3, but that night i got NO signal and gave up seconds into PJ Harvey and
used Both DATS with Mics...
so is this is a worthless cause and i shouldnt waste batteries... again...
anybody ever use one of these in Minneapolis?
peace
and thanks for letting me waste MORE bandwidth saying:

hi,
how exactly does one hide mics in a hat? one of those truckdrivers type
hats with the large flat front area with mics behind it? do you cut holes
for the sound? . put the mics on the side? what about the wires? any tips or
descriptions would be most appreciated. ive never used a hat before. i've
been using onmi mics under the lapels with nice results, but in large rooms
when i want to use hyper-cardioids and need to more carefully aim them, the
hat seems like a good way. i'm bald, so i dont have much hair to hide wires
and stuff.

this Friday for shn branches, to distribute the shn's either via snail

I just wanted to let everyone know that the 24-bit Field Recording FAQ is
now available at http://www.sonicsense.com/24bitfaq.html
It addresses many of the issue recently discussed, like bit-length,
normalization, headroom, and laptop stability with various operating

Subject: A bunch of extra phish DATs need new home(s)
Date: Mon, 11 Jun 2001 21:58:38 -0500
I've got 46 Phish DATs (about 24 shows) that I don't need and
don't listen to, so
if there's someone out there with no collection that wants a
huge jumpstart, I may be able to help.
If you're a newbie and think you might be the one, email me your
list or url. I will pick basically randomly, so don't go sending
me a list with most of your stuff deleted just to look like you
need it the most.
These are mostly 97's, with a few 98's.
Most are on Sony DDS tapes.
I can't guarantee that there are no problems, such as diginoise,
but there are none that I know of. There's simply no way I can
come up with enough time to listen to them all to check.
My intention is to trade them for blanks, ideally a single
person would order DATs from American Digital in my name, having
them shipped directly to me, and when I got confirmation from
Am-Dig, I'd ship these. I think that sounds fair. Am I
overlooking something?
If the newbie thing doesn't yeild a taker, I'll post again
putting them up for trades for blanks (or maybe for non-Phish
DATs).

Make me a reasonable offer if you want any or all of them. Everything is in
excellent condition. I'm open to suggestion. I don't need any of this stuff
anymore. If you need it, let's make a deal.
1. A pair of Core Sound binaural (CSB) mics. These have been used extremely
little. It includes the battery box. The only thing is the little felt pads
have come off the tips of both mics. I've still used them and haven't noticed a
difference, plus I'm sure it'd be easy to get replacements. I never bothered.
If I recall, these went for somewhere around $250 when I bought them.
2. A Core Sound 7-pin to coax cable. It's the old-style (I guess), the one
without the 90 degree angle connector. It is in perfect condition. I think
this was roughly $30 new. It is the cable that can be used for output from the
Sony, but not input. I used it to connect my D8 to my SV-3700.
3. Sony D7/D8 AC power supply. I'm guessing the new price for one of these was
around $30.
Again, I'm not asking a specific price. Make an offer. Cash, trade, anything
reasonable is likely to sound good to me.
Since I'm already here, I might as well add:
4/5. Two refurbished Quantum Atlas IV 9.1GB Ultra160 SCSI hard drives. I think
I've seen these going on ebay for roughly $60 a piece. Want one or both? I'm
willing to entertain your offer. I plugged them in long enough to make sure
they work, but I don't need them.
Any reasonable offer is likely to sound better than having to go through the
trouble of auctioning it off.
