Hey 'Heads,
Haven't really seen much in the way of offers for Clapton's current tour so
I figured I'd better change that. I taped his 6/12/01 Fleet Center gig from
Section D, Row 10, Seat 2 (on the floor about 20 Rows back, ~15' left of
center... source is below). Let me tell you, the sound here was fantastic
and the tape does nothing but illustrate that. I'm looking for other
Clapton shows from the current tour, especially the 6/11/01 Fleet Center
gig. My second deck is broken, so this one will only be on CDR (pure digi
transfer). I'm also always up for trading Dead, SCI, Phil, etc, especially
looking for the Crusader Rabbit Stealth Band from 6/11/01 (please tell me
someone was able to tape this). Send your lists my way and we'll work
something out.
Eric Clapton 6/12/01 - Fleet Center
(Mastering) CSBs > Bat Box w/ Rolloff > zefiro inbox > d100
(transfer) DAT > Onkyo DX-RD511 > CDR (2 of 'em)
WOB - 5 for this show (CDR B+p style). If you don't hear from me you didn't
make it.
Peace!
Rusty

Anyone know where to find AA size 1.5V 1600mAH (or better) NiMH

Unfortunately, what you ask for is chemicaly impossible. The half-cell
potential of a voltaic cell redox reaction has a chemical upper limit.
For NiMH and NiCd, this is about 1.25 volts. The only way to increase
the voltage is to put cells in series, but this gives you multiples
of a single cell potential. Alkaline cells use carbon and zinc which
give a higher cell potential than Ni and Cd (or MH). Higher still
is Pb/PbO (Lead-acid) at 2.1 volts per cell.

Hey All,
I'm getting ready to purchase a soundcard for DAT>PC>CD transfers. Been
thinking about the Egosystems Waveterminal 24/96 which seems to run about
$300. I like the 24/96 capability for future use and the fact that it will
re-sample on the fly - most of my dats are at 48khz. Does anyone have any
experience with this card that could give me some feedback? How is the
quality on the on the fly resampling? Thoughts on hardware vs. software
resampling? I don't get a lot of time to work on transfers so the time
savings of on the fly would be great and I would still have the option to
re-sample with software if I wanted to. Are there any other cards out there
in the same price range that would do the trick? I have looked into the
MAudio Audifile 24/96, Delta Dio 24/96 etc but these don't do the hardware
resampling.
Also probably picking up a Plexor 16X and a Tascam DA-20 deck - anyone seen
any low prices advertised on these lately?
Thanks for the BW!
Brothers

Mike Clark 3-6-01 Stella Blue Asheville
sr-77>dmic20>M1 Excellent sound, a couple bumps where people ran into my gear. From 25 ft back center.
Mike Clark Chicago- 3-01? Mk4>V2>ad2k>dap1 Excellent, 30ft back center
John Scofield 6-13-01 Asheville Music Zone
mbho603/ka200>dmic20>dap1 Great sound, huge bass, levels were a little high even with max attenuation, but hey, scofield kicks it pretty hard. No clipping, used the limiter.
Looking for any and all Mike Clark and Scofield from HQ sources.

Thinking of finally taking the plunge and getting a digital sound card to do

I came across this one as I was looking aroundo nthe web - anyone have
experience with it? good or bad?
If bad, can anyone recommend any decent, affordable (under $500) pci cards?
I'd like to get one that does real-time resampling in the card, which this
one supposedly supports.
Any help or opinions will be greatly appreciated.

Subject: DA-P1 battery power issue
Date: Thu, 14 Jun 2001 14:27:12 -0400
.... works flawlessly with wall power, but recently, doesn't like any
of my (6) 6V gel cells (which all power my D100, ADC-20 and V2
without incident.) 2 of the batteries (6v 12ah) were bought in January.
The batteries are always left on charge with a Power Sonic smart
charger.
What happens? The deck works fine at the start of a recording,
but at the end, when it hit STOP, it sometimes humms and all
the buttons become inoperative, necessitating a full power down
(pull the power cable/insert power cable.)
Is it as simple as starting over with different batteries?
Anyone else have this problem and be able to correct it?
Thanks in advance!

Is this true? My biggest fear of giving free copies of my masters away on
DATheads is one ending up in the hands of one of these maggots! I certainly
would be very bummed if I were in Italy and saw my copy transfered to a CD
by those slimeballs...they are making money off our passion for trading live
music. If there are any suspects that have been known to do this please try
to help the DAThead community by informing us of the identity of the said

Subject: 2nd DAT deck or CD burner?
Date: Thu, 14 Jun 2001 20:42:14
Hello all from a newbie to the list. I apologize for my first post
being so long, but I need some advice from people in the know. I just
bought a PCM-M1 and RM-D100K and want to be able to make copies of my DAT
recordings. Since I don't have a computer, it seems like I have two
options, a second DAT deck or a CD burner.
A second DAT deck would allow me to make clones for trades, avoid extra
wear on my M1, and avoid the 74/80 min. limitation of CDR. Anyone prefer
either the Tascam DA-20mkII or Sony PCM-R300?
A CD burner would allow me to record DATs to a CD (playable by almost
anyone), record from CD back to DAT (in 74/80 min blocks) for trades via the
RM-D100K, or CD to CD from my Philips CDC936 (with coax digital out).
Anyone prefer the HHB CDR830 or 850, Tascam CDRW700, or Sony CDRW33?
Thanks again for any info provided, either on or off list.

Subject: Best mic pre-amp? (need to use for U2 show)
Date: Fri, 15 Jun 2001 03:37:05 EDT
Hi, thanks to all those who responded to my last post on mic pre-amps. I now
have it narrowed down to the two best? stealth mic pre-amps (from what I can
tell). These are the AETA PSP-3 and the Sonosax SX-M2. I am sure the type
of mics I will be using will determine which will have the best sound for me.
So since I will likely be using the SKM-140 set (AK-40 capsules) or the U-87
or U-89, I suppose those will be the basis. My number one concern is sound
quality.
I asked a musician today what he thought the best all-purpose (audience) mics
are. He said Shure. Is this a good opinion? I honestly can make a fairly
good opinion in saying that Neumann is best, although I am sure Schoeps are
awesome too. I hear good and bad about all so maybe a shed of light on the
"best" stealth mics you can think of could help. I was thinking of buying
the pre-amp ASAP and renting a microphone to try out for a U2 show on 6/22.
I will be GA so I will be in the crowd surrounded by people. Luckily I am
tall (6' 3 1/2") so mounting the mic(s) shouldn't be tough. I have
experience with capsules (none were pro) and no experience with mics like the
U-87 and U-89. Is it worth it trying one of those latter two mics for this
show? I will need to hide the mic remember.. So I was thinking a mounting
process via my throat area. I am sure this is an awful method (sonically
speaking). Any advice for my mic pre-amp and mic renting plan?
One more thing: can a mic pre-amp be used as a 1/8" headphone amp to boost
the output of a weak headphone jack, and possibly clear any hiss?
Thanks for any help,
Tom
