I have two WT2496's in my system. They're reliable, great for analog or
digital (needs a universal box for multiple digital i/o), and they have
issued WDM drivers for them. The company even answers email.
They are not Soundblaster-compatible, though, do not have hardware mixing
(using two separate input paths instead) and have their own sophisticated
(any much more intutitive than Windows/Soundblaster) control panel. They do
hardware on-the-fly resampling, have consumer and professional EEC 958, and
have multiple ways of using clock sources (including a Soundblaster link).
The WT2496's have never given me any trouble, and the sound is great. I got
mine from sbfilmaudio.com about a year ago.

I'm desperately looking for a manual for both items. Can somebody outthere
give me a hand? (a xerox copy will also do the job).

It's a little bit inflammatory to single out Italy, and especially lousy to
stereotype. There are a lot of legitimate traders there. I think if you do
your homework you'll find out that there are a lot more "home factory"
bootleggers selling CDRs here in the States than there are coming from
overseas these days.

I don't know if you'll get much feedback on this. This is
a brand new item and they have only been in the hands
of our customers for 2 weeks at the most.
However, the Klone Gold CDRs are just a name. They are
made by Mitsui in Colorado. The Mitsui Gold CDRs have
been around for a long time and have a proven track record
of high quality and reliability. Many believe they are the best
CDR available today.
So, why would you get the Klone Gold and not just the
Mitsui Gold? There are 3 reasons:
1. The Klone Gold's are on sale right now for less than
the Mitsui Gold's.
CDR 80 min/700MB
Klone Gold Pro Branded 80 min/700MB on spindle JUST $0.89 ea
Klone Gold Pro Branded 80 min/700MB in jewel AS LOW AS $1.09 ea
Digital Audio (FINALLY, a Pro-Grade CDR for the Digital Audio recorders)
Klone Gold Pro Branded DA 80 min on spindle JUST $0.99 each
Klone Gold Pro Branded 80 DA min in jewel AS LOW AS $1.15 each
2. The Klone Gold's are 80 min/700MB. The Mitsui Gold's
are 74 min. The Mitsui Gold 80 min CDR is made exclusively
for Klone Pro Gold. As far as I know, it is the only Gold 80
min CDR available.
3. The Klone Gold's are made with a Thermal top coat which
provides additional protection to the CDR's face.
If you have any additional questions about the new Klone
Gold CDR, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Anybody have a clean copy of the Dead from 8/21/68? I know that most, if
not all circulating copies cut during Lovelight, but mine also has a bunch
of drop outs/cuts throughout the 1st set (haven't made it to set 2 yet). I
realize this show is quite old and there may not be a better source
available, but if you have one I'd love to trade or B&P for it. Thanks in

Since 1991 (when finally starts a new law ) Italy have lost this sad

Other countries (may be USA, JAPAN, maybe some other asian countries )
produce bootlegs

WOW!
You guys LOVE your Clapton. I'll be responding to the B+P winners in a few
(I'll be taking about 10... not everyone that replied so hopefully some of
the winners will offer it up). I've already got my 6/11 and Crusader Rabbit
trades lined up... thanks a bunch to you folks. If you offered some other
trade, you can probably count on getting an email from me by Monday with
some kind of deal. I'll be out of town until Sunday so I won't be able to
send mail to everyone right away, but I can usually find something on just
about everyone's list so just be patient. If the response to this offer is
any indication, DAT-Heads LOVE Clapton... so you guys taping the other shows
of this tour should offer 'em up... they'll be appreciated, I guarantee it!
Thanks for playing. Peace!

Taper freindly. I'll be taping Dirty Dozen there tonight. Great sound and
lights.
Taper section is behind the SB. There's only room for 6-10 stands so get
there early or plan on patching.
They only want 1 row of stands behind the board, and that's leaving an aisle
in the center. Apparently the taper section was FOB before and the waiters
complained cause all y'all didn't order enough food. So the place moved the
TS behind the board and there's now a $7.50 minimum to sit at a table. So if
you must sit at a table, be sure to order some food, or at least get your
beers from the waiter. At Scofield saturday there were some kids with a
mackie and rackmount gear, so AC power may even be possible.
Biggest problem there is towing. Do not park anywhere that says "no theater
parking".
If you want to check out the place beforehand, there's a bunch of bands
every monday night with no cover.
Enjoy the show!

i have a waveterminal & it works well (for me); your mileage may vary (eg:
my old ZA2 DIO card was a royal pain in the ass, it worked fine for others
but had tons of problems in my PC - long story)
>How is the quality on the on the fly resampling?
i can't hear anything wrong with it myself but i'm not an engineer, maybe
there is something at the technical level that people might object to with
its onboard DSP (i dunno)
the card i bought also came with software called "samplitude project" that
supports resampling in software on the fly so you don't have to use the DSP
on the card if you don't want to....i had planned on trying some resampling
software vs. hardware comparisons but i never got around to it
>Thoughts on hardware vs. software resampling?
the research i did b4 i bought this card suggested that software resampling
can be "better" than hardware if using a "good" algorithm but it all depends
on many things as far as both designs, and i heard differing opinions from
different people on this subject (any sound engineers out there with more
thoughts?)

Any comments on the brand new Sony DG60P tapes? I just received a few
of them and sony has modified them a bit. for one thing, the clear
plastic window is smaller. you can tell new from old by looking at the
j-card. where the old one said "premium" in a gold oval, the new one
replaces that with a circle saying "1.3GB uncompressed, 2.6GB
compressed" and moves the "premium" up by the 60P. I wonder if anyone
has noticed a change in quality or performance.

I am trying to locate list member Jeff Patton, who
advertised a pair of Neumann AK40 capsules on the
list a few months ago. I bought them but one is
very sick, and Neumann maintains that capsules
cannot be repaired, only replaced (at about twice
what I paid for the pair). If anyone knows how to
contact him, please email privately. He recently
graduated from U of Michigan, and does not seem to

Hi everybody. Summer is here, and I've gotten interested in taping again. I'm already going to tape Radiohead in Chicago, but are there any shows in my area (Peoria/Quad Cities/Bloomington/Springfield/St. Louis/Chicago) that anyone would like taped? It doesn't matter what genre, I love taping anything! I know that there are very few tapers south of Chicago in IL because I find it impossible to find sources for a lot of the shows I've been to before I started taping them myself!
So yeah, if anyone needs a show taped (my rig isn't DAT anymore, it's DSM-6S/L>PA-6LC>MD-MT831), let me know and we can work something out.

Subject: Movie about Taping - Songcatcher
Date: Fri, 15 Jun 2001 21:59:49 -0700
Just got back from an interesting movie. It is called Songcatcher. Here is a
synopsis from excite.com
Synopsis: After being denied a promotion at the university where she
teaches, Doctor Lily Penleric, a brilliant musicologist, impulsively visits
her sister, who runs a struggling rural school in Appalachia. There she
stumbles upon the discovery of her life -- a treasure trove of ancient
Scots-Irish ballads, songs that have been handed down from generation to
generation, preserved intact by the seclusion of the mountains. With the
goal of securing her promotion, Lily ventures into the most isolated areas
of the mountains to collect the songs and finds herself increasingly
enchanted -- not only by the rugged purity of the music, but also by the raw
courage and endurance of the local people as they carve out meaningful lives
against the harshest conditions. It is not, however, until she meets Tom --
a handsome, hardened war veteran and talented musician -- that she's forced
to examine her motivations. Is the "Songcatcher," as Tom insists, no better
than the men who exploit the people and extort their land?
The movie has this doctor lugging an Edison wax cylinder recorder around the
mountains of Appalachia to record and scientifically document old time music
somewhere near the turn of the century. Understand it is VERY loosely based
on a real person. Has Iris Dement and Taj Mahal. It is a "Chick Flick" but
one that a taper could love.
