For anyone that used to buy Smiths boots, it was released under the name "Same Day Again", and also "Before Love". The Same Day Again version is very good and clean, but the Before Love version has better versions of some of the songs. Some of the Before Love versions sound like crap too. I also have 4 songs from this show on a vinyl single. I am wondering if this show was a BBC broadcast or what the deal is, and if anyone has a great version, that is not one of the boot copies. If you have any info, attended it, have the show or just want to rave about the Smiths, I'd love to hear from you. I prefer Verbatim, TDK, or the http://www.cdrecordable.com ones, they don't cost much more and they all work and won't rot for a long time. I have used about 50 of these CDs, burning VCDs, with two coasters (which may be due to my burner). Still $.10 a CDR is a great price, which won't be around for long as the CDR wars have ended and supply should be back in balance soon. Yesterday I was in the srchitechtural salvage wharehouse in downtown burlington, Vt. They had a 93 drawer set of file cabinest from the original bank of vermont (its an antique) that was selling for somewhere around $3300. I checked it out and would say each drawer holds probably around 60 dat's, so we're talking major storage here.... Hopefully this can help somebody out. Of course I can go to Sony but are there any alternatives or tips? For reference: Sony Factory Service in Westwood, Massachusetts has a flat rate charge of $257 for the TCD-D100 as of three weeks ago. My display lost all contrast and a bit of investigation found a burned up resistor. Since I've been avoiding repairing SMT and Westwood is local to me, Sony completed the repair by swapping out the board. Turnaround was two days. -- ------------------------------ From: sec1968@ezl.com Subject: crap cdr's Date: Sun, 17 Jun 2001 11:58:19 -0500 Don't walk, but run....AWAY from that deal! If you've already opened them, i'd say you have a nice set of coasters, or mini frisbees! The deal you want to look for is at Office Max. They have HP discs, aqua blue 74 min. or white 80 min., which are made by Taiyo Yuden. As long as the media is made in Japan, it most likely will be a TY or a Mitsui disc, whether their brand name is on them or not. If you find something made in Taiwan, pass it by. How can you tell where it's made? If the center ring is opaque in color instead of clear, it's good. shane >From: "Winnie" >Subject: 200 CDR for $20 >Date: Sat, 16 Jun 2001 07:44:00 -0400 > >Heads up... just got 200 CD-R for $60 with a $40 rebate coupon from STAPLES >in New England. Depending on what is playing for house music at the time.......if you boost the levels up there, you will at least be able to see the levels during playback, if you don't have headphones to actually listen to what you recorded. Of course, there are other benefits to this practice, as well. You can always go back an record a new leader over your "test recording" if needed. moe.later Darrin ------------------------------ From: Susan Subject: ISO Spinal Tap - 6/10 Warfield Date: Sun, 17 Jun 2001 15:59:47 -0700 Did anyone tape Spinal Tap at the Warfield on Sunday, June 10th? thanks Susan ------------------------------ From: Mike Hooker Subject: sound card sample rate Date: Sun, 17 Jun 2001 19:04:29 -0400 hi, i have a digital sound card that resamples on the fly. should i record from DAT at 48k and the resample down to 44.1 with cool edit to make a cd, or is it better to just record at 44.1 with cool edit, letting the sound card do the converting? keep in mind, i have the much maligned turtle beach montego, but i havent had any problems with it. maybe its a wash either way? thanks see my music trading page: http://pages.zdnet.com/mikehooker/hookstradingpage have fun, Mike Hooker ______________ ------------------------------ From: Sean Cartwright Subject: Help w/ Panasonic 3800 Date: Sun, 17 Jun 2001 19:52:21 -0400 Hi All, Saw the Seapods last night, last NY show! Over 3.5 hours of GREAT music. Incredible time but emotional, but I digress... They're having problems with their deck. It's only ~1 year old but it appears as though the drum has stopped turning. We had the cover off, loaded a DAT and although it appears to load fine, the drum never starts spinning when play was engaged. Is this a common problem with these decks? Any suggestions as to a fix/easy repair or should it be heading to the shop? I didn't think to ask if maybe the warranty is still valid. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Peace, Sean ------------------------------ From: Bobby Gervais Subject: Glenn Hughes on NYC radio Date: Sun, 17 Jun 2001 20:06:27 -0500 Glenn Hughes, former bassist for Deep Purple, apparently will be in New York radio. Can anyone tape this for me? Have lots to swap or can do blanks and postage. Bobby Gervais GLENN ON US RADIO SOON! [June 14, 2001] Glenn Hughes is going to be playing in New York City next Friday with the Voices of Classic Rock for an early morning radio show. 6-10AM for WPLJ radio. The show will be held at the WWF restaurant. However, this is an 80's rock station. Glenn will be in the band playing bass and doing backing vocals as they are going to feature the singers John Cafferty, Jimmy Jamison (Survivor) Bobby Kimball (Toto) and Larry Hoppen (Orleans). If Glenn gets to do any Purple material is still to be decided. We were told to emphasize this is an "80's event"! ------------------------------ From: "Laurent Hotte" Subject: ISO Strange Sensations (Robert Plant) Date: Sun, 17 Jun 2001 21:33:29 -0400 I'm looking for people who may have taped (DAT or MD) Robert Plant's Strange Sensations in their recent Scandinavian and North American Tour.
