I've had this card for almost a year now, and it's never worked with my
machines. 2 different motherboards, 2 different problems. I hate the
F***ing thing but I've come this far. Is there a windows 2000 driver
for this thing? Can you use the win9x driver with win 2k? I'm
currently using win98, but I'd like to use a more up to date version of
Windows one of these days. I should probably just buy a different card.
Anyway, my question today is: What motherboard/chipset/processor are
you using if you're ZA2 works? What about other cards in your machine?
SCSI card, ethernet, video...what brands?
no amount of info is too small.
Thanks,
Jay

new device?

Onkyo's audio Processor. It is a usb connected "sound card"
looks like a new DATPort to me. I am trying to research it. Please
feel free to contact me or post here.

I have been diligently using some plugs meant for industrial noise, and
they are very flat. Made by Howard Leight Co. they are orange rubber
cones with a shoelace aglet thing inside for stiffness. I can hear
everything very clearly with these, even conversations several feet
away. However, after standing 10 feet from a blown speaker stack
tonight, I wish I had had my extra strength earplugs. They are blue
foam cone shaped plugs with a string connecting the pair. They do tend
to cut out much of the highs. They cut out just about everything. Only
recommended if you're taping. Manufacturer unknown to me, they are
disposeable and come in a small plastic bag.

This isn't correct.
Also, on an analog chain, I recommend setting the input level on a
Sony portable to "4". This is slightly below the deck's unity gain
which is about 4.5. Note that "5" is too high if you want to match
the output of another Sony deck!

Well,
Another show, another learning experience. I taped Little Feat last night
at an outdoor festival. Got the DAT through metal detectors and
everything. I asked around and someone told me it was a mono PA stack, so
I decided to stand about 10 feet from the right hand stack. They had
equipment probs during the soundcheck, and a cyclical buzz/crack distortion
every few seconds or so. I mention this because apparently it blew the
stack. I had no idea it was isolated to the right hand stack. Still don't
know for sure, because it doesn't make sense since the same signal went to
both stacks. During the show I could tell it was cracking in spots. The
sound as a whole was *almost* distorted ... at those sound levels and with
earplugs it's difficult to tell exactly what the signal was like. It
sounded fine on the lawn.
Anyway, what I have left of the show after my fat fingered f**up is a
couple minutes of Let it Roll, and then I moved over to the left side for
the encore, Willin. Let it Roll sounds like crap. Like an analog cassette
recorded waaay over the levels. But Willin sounds sweet, for the most
part. Acoustic guitar and mandolin are clear as bells. Vocals are a
little muddy. Bass is pretty thick, but not downright distorted. It
really isn't a fair to compare the acoustic song from one stack to the
electric song from the other stack. So I'm trying to figure out what
happened... my setup is
Sound Professionals SP-CMC-10 Hyper-cardioids --> SP-SPSB-2M (rolloff @
107hz) --> D100
I'm thinking I was just too close to the stacks. Or maybe the whole system
blew out at the beginning of the show and there's nothing I could do.
Maybe I should roll off at a higher frequency. I would appreciate any
comments by people who have used these mics (or the AT 853). Any tips for
FOB recording; at what point are the SPLs too much for any small mic. I
know I have a very modest mic ...

I spoke with one of our familiar retailers about this. Microboards has a
new unit called Quic Disc. It is the size of a shoebox and writes at
16x. Before I persue that unit, does anyone know of another quality
standalone unit for under $600 that writes at least 8x? It must be able
to use computer CDrs and not AUDIO only.
Thank you!

I'm hoping to find alternate sources to the 6/27 Radiohead
show at Shoreline. Security scene was lax and I heard
third-hand that numerous rigs were in the house.
I was 9th row from the left stack, using Sonic Studios
and got great results for the most part. Unfortunately
I got some overloads during some of the heavier moments,
due to aggressive level setting. I was also afflicted
with temporary battery death during the amazing techno
version of "Everything in Its Right Place" that closed
main set. Ouch.
I'm really eager to trade up to a better/complete version of
this great show, but I'm also interested in any
other Radiohead show from this tour, particularly Red Rocks or the Gorge.
I have some 98 and 99 Radiohead on disc as well
as an acoustic show, and also a wide variety
of other bands to offer in trade.
Please get in touch if you can help.
Thanks much.

Absolutely! And, because this isn't correct, digital splitters in the
section are an extremely valuable resource.

Would like to talk to anyone offline if you have or
know of someone with the lemosax.
I currently run my sonosax with Neumann km140s and
would love to leave the bodies at home instead of in
my shorts pockets at shows.

I have a set of plastic drawers, 24 in all, that will store 336
DAT tapes. This setup was designed for 3.5" floppies, but
works very nice for DATs.
I've changed my storage setup, and do not need these any
longer. Probably too bulky to ship, but if anyone in Western
Washington (state) want to pick them up, they are yours.
I'm located West of Olympia.

Subject: What's with those Sony decks?
Date: Sat, 30 Jun 2001 20:54:25 -0400 (EDT)
At SKB last night, I tried giving patches to a number of people, using
an Apogee AD100 and a DSD. The first one had a Sony D8; it couldn't
get a signal from the DSD, nor even direct from the Apogee.
Fortunately, the next person who wanted a patch had a Tascam DA-P1,
and the D8 _could_ get a signal from its digital out. (The Tascam had
no problem getting a signal from the DSD.)
Do Sony portables not believe in the category code of the Apogee? (It
wasn't a cable problem, clearly, because the same cable worked with
the Tascam.)
