From: GaoBest@aol.com Subject: ISO Modern Talking, Alphaville; 3 (different) dats available for trade Date: Sat, 7 Jul 2001 19:19:59 EDT Hi everyone A bit of a hodge-podge email - first off, I am interested in any (dat, analog, wire, etc) recording of concerts by those cheese-ball pop bands MODERN TALKING and ALPHAVILLE, bands which embarrass most German citizens (one analog tape trader told me he couldn't trade with me anymore because of it), but I quite like them. How else to initiate a conversation-ender? These bands were really famous in the '80s for their super-cheese pop songs and inability to perform live, but they have redeemed themselves by actually performing in concert in the latter part of the '90s and this century as well. Surely there are people recording these concerts? Well, I am definitely interested, and while I don't have any dats of these bands, I do have some analog tapes of Alphaville, and I also have tons of dats by a plethora of other bands. Let me know if any trades are possible. And please don't hate me for asking. I have these 3 extra dats that I copied recently, and I don't need them. Two were for someone who already had these (from me!) and the third was a loaner dat. Exact venue names are available. 1. maxell hs-4/90, all morrissey 12-10-99 maritime, SF 74' (DM-D; PCM-M1 and sonics) (48) 10-5-99 tempe 86' (DM-D-D) (48) 9-14-97 boston 44' (LP) (incomplete; 5 songs during the set were cut off) (DM-D-D) 2. sony dg60p arab strap 4-23-01 san francisco 96' (48) (DM-D; pcm-m1 and sonics) no filler 3. sony dg60p new order 12-31-98 ally pally, london 80?' (48) (DM-D; D100 and sonics) filler: badlydrawnboy 8-00 reading festival BBC broadcast; last song cut off due to lack of dat tape space (48) (DM-D-D) So for the 3 above dats, any quick trades are possible, if anyone is interested. I'd rather not B/P them because I have enough blank dats, and am always looking for more trades so I can have music that I won't have time to listen to for another few months, but at least I could get any of these 3 dats out of my bedroom and into someone else's possession. Thanks in advance Mike xx BWT (1 to 300 day leadtime depending on schedule): B/P assorted pink floyd concerts, for the most part, I suppose... from 1970 to 1972, or whatever. preferably on dat, and if you send sony DG grade dats, you must "unpack" it yourself because I hate to unpack those guys in my R500 because they tend to get "stuck" in the R500, ack! CDR is also fine, though, so no worries. Or whatever else I have that you may want.

That's an excellent point. There was one time when a disc went south on me and I had difficulty copying my files from it. It was so bad that in one file corrupt data was making it _past_ the CD-ROM drive (unbelievably rare) and the only thing that alerted me was the CRC checking (in this case bzip2'd files). But I was able to muddle through; forcing the CD-ROM drive to 1x read speed worked wonders. > I'm always a little leary of any compression format, unless I know it > has a good data corruption recovery feature. (Can anyone recommend one > that does?) At first I used "bzip2" which I believe has a recovery tool, but that's a general-purpose program that doesn't do well with audio. Sadly I think recovery features tend to run at odds with compression ratios. -Michael
