Due to having just a little too much fun, I didn't tape the show in
Minnesota. If anyone has it on DAT, I have Salmon from Telluride as well as
most of the others this year (as well as '98 and '99) and lots of other
Salmon masters. I'm also looking for the one by Lake Superior, again DAT
only.

It's not actually a sled, it's a power regulator. It takes anything
from 12-24V in and converts it to 8.5V + heat. It's required for DC
powering a D-10 and probably some 1989 sony videocamera too.
I had to get one from sony in 1996, it was a difficult trick, they
didn't have one for weeks then finally came up with one. I called the
toll free phone #, I think it's 1-800-222-SONY
You might try the Oades, http://www.oade.com and ask if they would have
faster access than you would by calling sony.
I believe mine cost between $65-$80. . . (in 1996)
GOOD LUCK!!!

Stops working altogether :o) But with the latest beta version of the
Mia driver (6/29/2001), I've now been successful in copying about 2 hours
worth of CD->DAT with the same dodgey chain as before, and the synch problem
hasn't recurred. This is just temporary/testing anyway.

hi everyone,
sorry for the delay in posts but literally when it rains...it pours. it
seems we have come across our first setback as the copies of the toronto,
ontario show (#7) were seriously flawed.and to make matters worse the person
who submitted the recording falsly represented it as a dat clone when in
fact it was sourced from a minidisc recording which was actually quite good
in it's original presentation. the show was previously weeded on the echoes
news group and had none of the flaws on which the discs that when out had
from this so called dat source. i guess some people would do anything to get
what they want as this person also requested a large number of shows for his
contribution. this really saddens us as it was our wish to try to put out
alternate sources of these shows than what was currently being circulated.
we did make a solomn promise of annominity to all that joined the forest
whether they choose to contribute or not , but if any of these people who
decieved us ever decide to start trouble for another or make accusations
against a fellow music enthusiasts on any of these honorable newsgroups we
will post their names and let the communities be their judge.
i have to admit that this also was our fault too. everything was going so
smoothly that we really did not "inspect" the copies we sent out as we
usually do in an effort to save some time. so to everyone in this tree we do
apologize. this coupled with the destrucion of the hard drive on my burning
station due to a faulty power supply has really crippled things the past few
weeks. thankfully we should be up and running again shortly and we'll pick
up where we left off.
so to remedy the first problem we have a few other sources from this venue
coming in thanks to some generous folks from the forest who helped in the
past. again we'll pick the best one go with it. i will contact personally
all those who were included on this tree and send the branches the new
copies. i ask the leaves at this point to send blanks and postage to their
branches in return. i'm really sorry the leaves have to take the hit on
this one but it really is unfair to the branches who fulfilled their
responsabilty and work to have the added expense of something that was not
their fault. if someone has a better way for us to rectify this situation
in a "fairer" manner we are open to any and all suggestions. secondly all
the sign ups for trees #8+#9 were on that hard drive so when we are finally
ready to roll we'll post the sign ups again. so please be aware that we have
to start from scratch on this one.
again i do want to personally apologize for this mis-hap because even with
the decieving and the flaws the blame ultimately falls on us for not
checking the discs first...a lesson we certainly will not repeat. and
although we can definitly verify the venues and about 90% of the sources
from well respected tapers and traders the few we have from unknown sources
should be carefully scrutinized by the branches (and all) so we can make
sure this doesn't happen again or is caught well before it is sent to the
leaves or anyone else.
lastly, if you all have not backed up your hard drives within the past week
or so i urge you to do so. although that computer was mainly used for
burning i did lose alot of memories with that drive for no reason but
laziness. all those months of procrastinating will now haunt me for a long
time and it was totally avoidable. so please heed my advice on this one and
learn from the mistakes we have made. thanks again for your understanding
and hopefully we'll make things right shortly.

Subject: Re: recharging eco-charges in the car
Date: Wed, 11 Jul 2001 00:27:29 -0400
Some of you may remember my post a couple weeks ago
(restated below) on this topic. I did get a half dozen varied
responses from basically "no problem" to "no way", and
several people asked for the outcome. So I did a test today
and thought I'd share the results.
First I used the two eco-charges for a bit over 5 hours. I then
plugged a 160 watt continuous power DC inverter (with the
Jensen name on it, but made by Recoton) into the cigarette
lighter of my car without the car running, but with the car's
ignition in 'accessory mode'. I then plugged a power strip
into the inverter (even though the directions for the inverter
say to not to). I plugged 2 of the SC-61 'Smart Chargers'
into the power strip, and attached them to both eco-charge
batteries.
It took 8 hours for both of the green lights to come on
(indicating the batteries were recharged), and then I left
the connections hooked up for another 3 hours (for a
total of 11 hours).
About every hour or so I tested the car battery to see if there
was any drop into voltage, but there did not appear to be any.
I disconnected everything (after a total of 11 hours), and the
car started right up. (Wahoo!) If curious, my car battery is
3 years old.
In conclusion, it took longer to recharge it this way than
compared to using AC in a house. I'm not sure if it would
go faster if I were recharging while driving, but that test is
for another day.
Enjoy the music,
-Dan Greenberg-

I understand that when looking at error rates displayed on a D100/M1,
that it is normal for it not to be all zero's. Posters here have
remarked that 0-4 is normal for them. I ran the test and got great
results, but only after I had run the cleaning tape (new D100, about10
hours use). When dirty it had varied readings, and one pop at 14, which
can't be good.
The crux of the matter, is I suppose there is error correction that goes
on, explaining the tolerance for small errors. At what point do the
errors become unrecoverable? And what do the units on the error counter
mean? bits dropped? If I repeat the test over the same length of tape
should I expect to see similar readings? All in all, using the error
counter as a guide, at what point should I run the cleaning tape?
I want to make sure that when I do a digital dump of a show that I get
the whole thing clean. Using a Mac, and a Midiman DIO 2496 card, is
there a way I can verify my DAT extraction? How about if I had a PC
with the same card?

I have a pair of AKG 480s for sale, with to different sets of capsules(61
and 63). I would like $1050 for the set.
Set of Audio Majic Excalibur II 15' mic cables. I'll take $400 for the pair.
Kimber Kable KS 1030 Select Interconnect 1 meter for $700.
Shure A27 Vertical T-bar for $35.
Portabrace for a DA-P1 and has two upper pouches that were used for a V2 and
a SBM-1, I'll take $100.
Blue kiwi mic cables 15' for $15.
**** I'm also looking to trade my Tascam DA-P1 for a Sony D-8 or M-100. I
will need the 7 pin to coax cable and hopefully a battery sytem, and a home
power source. My da-p1 has 500 hours, and comes with one oade power cable
and battery system with charger, and a home power source. It is in great
condition, and has slight paint rub on the corners, but no scratches. I'm
looking to get a brand new Sony DAT with al the accesories I have, proof of
the units hours, and $150, plus shipping. This may sound unreasonable to
some, but I spent a lot of money on this unit to take an outright trade.
Let me know
ryan
