Date: Mon, 16 Jul 2001 10:57:58 -0700 (PDT) Eric Nelson was kind enough to offer U2 4/15/01 for B&P, and I was lucky enough to get a copy. In thanks for all the advice and music I've been given through Datheads, I'll take the first 10 requests for this show AFTER the digest hits my inbox. How can I power them for use with my M1? >Should I bite the bullet (i.e. have patience) and order a matched >pair (from The Sound Room?)? I asked a friend at Wind Over the Earth, who sells the same mic for a lot more money, what the deal is. He told me that GC gets these mics direct from Oktava by the boatload and sells them with no quality control. Thus, the differences between two mics can be considerable. The ones that WOTE sells are matched and spec'ed by an importer who makes sure that you are getting a quality pair of mics. Thus, if you do go the GC route, make sure you test alot of the mics to get a good pair. Apparently, it's a bit of a crap shoot. If you really want good mics, I would go somewhere else, but if you want some ok mics for live rock and roll, they are probably ok, if you do some testing. From: Klay Anderson <klay@klay.com> Subject: Tram Mics Date: Mon, 16 Jul 2001 12:55:03 -0600 "bfand" <bfand@worldnet.att.net> Subject: info about Tram Mics Asked: >Does anyone have any knowledge about Tram mics. Tram mics are small, sensitive mics designed for ENG (electronic news gathering) and EFP (electronic field production). They also enjoy use in the motion picture sound industry. For some time they had some favorable use, but with Countryman, Sennheiser, PSC and others the Tram mics have a vile little presence peak that most professionals would use only if they received them for free. As they overload quite easily and are a negative bias mic (most lavalier mics are positive bias) they have limited application as stealth mics. -- Regards, Klay Anderson, D.A.,Q.B.E. I think we should maybe start a list of know frequencies if that hasn't been done already. I have only taped ald in Houston and know the frequency for the Woodlands, but would love to know some others Jer _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.

Is there any objection to running with the record level at or near maximum with a line level input? My friend graduated from a D7 to a D8 and now has to run the record level much higher to get the same levels.. ??? Thanx in advance, Jerry

From: "Rick Rombak" <rick@knightbarry.com> Subject: FS: Sony M1 Date: Mon, 16 Jul 2001 19:59:28 -0500 I still have a Sony M1 that is 1 year old for sale. I also have the RK-DA10P modified connecting cable from Sonic Sense. This unit has been used for live recording about a dozen times, and a small amount of dubbing to CDR. It is in perfect working condition, with the original box, manual, batteries, chargers, etc. I would like to sell both pieces together, but will separate. $550 or will consider a reasonable offer. From: "jeffc" <jcarvalh@lynx.neu.edu> Subject: help: problems cloning between R300 and M1 Date: Mon, 16 Jul 2001 22:05:25 -0400 Hello all, Having weird symptoms when cloning between 2 basically brand new units that I am hoping others on this list may have also seen: Sony M1 and Sony R300. I occasionally do cloning between them by playing the DAT tape out of the M1 > connecting optically with a 7pin and into the record deck > R300. For some reason, this weekend I began to get diginoise on the R300 cloned tape. When I took the original master tape and ran it in the R300 it showed no errors nor diginoise. When I relistened to it on the M1 I also did not hear any dignoise as I did on the clone. I tried to different aster tapes of the same length and the problem happens on both: start hearing diginoise and errors about 1.25 hrs into each tape.... I then went ahead and did a DAT>optical>Dio2496 dump from the M1 of the same shows... which again came out clean as a whistle with no errors nor diginoise. I then replicated this same exact setup and dumped the tapes from the R300 to 2496..and again it was perfect. So what I thought was maybe the fault of a bad tape looks to maybe not be. btw: both 90meter masters were on Sony DGPs bought in December 2000 or so. The M1 also recorded a short gig last night fine and the tape is clean. I then did the same exact test as above on this and its fine... Now the interesting thing is that the tape was a 90m that I was initially trying to clone. Could it be that the M1 doesn't like to clone 90m with the R300? But that does not explain why it would then dump perfectly to harddisk from the same exact device using the same 7pin cable... So if anyone has had problems with M1's not cloning well with R300s or has any idea what the heck is going on with this issue, please do email me... I am losing my mind..both decks act and perform fine when by themselves and the 7pin works fin in all other applicable uses.... Looks like I may need to call Prodigital :( Thanks in advance for any help or advice! ===== Jeff btw: B&P of the Doves 06-28-2001 Axis Boston (WBCN-FM>R300>2496>CDR) 1CDR to the first 2 respondents.
From: "Paul" <prennix@fortnet.org> Subject: AD-20 Question - unidentified noise Date: Mon, 16 Jul 2001 20:52:25 -0600 I Picked up a denecke ad-20 and gave it a try this weekend with not-so-great results. What I ended up with is allot of intermittent noise that sounds like wind, but there was next to no wind at either show I taped. I had the output levels of the ad-20 set so that it averaged around -12 and peaked@ -4-2db. It looked like my m1 was really only accepting the signal as line level and there seemed to be no way to adjust the record level on the m1. Can anyone help before I screw up another good show? However the Tuna fans may want to read this excerpt from an email I recieved from them: "Glad to hear you'll be coming to the ranch for the Merle Saunders show. Tickets are selling fast and you need to make a reservation. We will not be serving dinner on that night as we are in a camp weekend and the students fill the dining hall.
