A friend taped it but only taped 45min worth since his battery died. I'm looking for any tapers that might have taped the whole show. Ravi Shankar was in attendance int he first row so needless to say it was a smokin show since the musicians stepped it up a notch or 2. Have plenty to trade. Thanks! However the Tuna fans may want to read this excerpt from an email I received from them: I am one of the tapers who recorded parts of the west coast tour. I had no problem getting a board patch, even at a " no recording allowed " venue. My suggestion is that you get there early and ask the road manager or ask the folks running the board. The boys are cooking right now and should not be missed!!!!! Good Luck and remember to be patient and nice to these people as they are working hard... Some bands I'm looking for: Pat Benatar Cheap Trick Peter Frampton Nazareth Styx Journey AC/DC Blue Oyster Cult Eric Clapton Jethro Tull (plus various other classic rock bands and hard rock bands) I have recorded shows of some of the above bands (and others) on DAT and can trade on cd-r (I'm a uni-decker right now). If you have any of these types of shows and would be interested in trading, please contact me. I caught the Phil and Friends show at Deer Creek on the way back into town (unfortunately without my gear), and I was wondering if anyone out there that taped the show was willing to work a trade. I've got lots of Dead related/Phish/DMB/etc for trade. Your computer requires 19 volts for its input. Ah refers to amperes * hours, which is current (measured in Amperes) times time (in hours), such as 2.64 amps for one hour or 1 amp for 2.64 hours- or a product to that effect. You will want to figure out how long the 2.64 Ah cell powers your computer, and do a little math to find out how many amp-hours you will require to record a given performance length. . . you might want to plan on a 4-hour time, just to get most show, or you may wish to go longer, or be willing to powerdown and re-boot more and be able to carry smaller cells. . . Anyhow, power in Watts is an expression of voltage times current, so that (another example) if your computer runs for 2.64 hours off that battery, then it draws exactly one ampere of current, and the power rating would be a draw of 19v *1A = 19 Watts. Working backwards, if you know the conmputer's actual current draw (check the specs in the manual, or read the wall wart) you can figure out how many amp-hours you will use per hour. . . (amp*hours/hours = amps*1/1 = amps*1= amps for the algebraically challenged) To address #2, yes you can chain cells together in series to get higher voltages, that's what's going on anytime you have to use more than one regular dry cell in a device, DC power cells in series add their voltages together arithmetically. two twelve- volt cells will give you 24 volts, that will be stiff enough to get the 19 out of, and be just two cells. . . If the 24 is too much for it, then someone with better practical experince than me will have to help you find a voltage regulator circuit to drop the voltage to 19 and blow the rest off as heat. . . but it might work fine with 24V. . . DON'T ANYONE BLAME ME if their gear explodes (unless I explode it myself for you)! good luck, hope this helps! -tom -==--==-==--==-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-==--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=--==--=-= Hello all. Hope your weekend was nice. I have a few questions about externally powering my laptop for field recording(snip)a few of the questions are: 1) my computer apparently (from the bottom sticker) requires 19v and 2.64 aH. Which is 50.16 watts if my understanding is correct. If I wanted this to run for about 5-6 hours then I would need approximately 250-300 watts from my battery back. Is this all correct? I know that there are some other factors in play here but is it all correct? 2) Can I hook several sealed lead acids in series to create higher voltages with the same aH. For example 3 6V 20aH batteries to create 18Va and 20aH which creates 360 watts. A little more than I wanted but is it all correct? 3) Do I need to find the 19V or can I get away with 18V (3x6V) or 20V (2x10V) or 24V (2x12V)? 4) Is there something easier than all this? thanks for the help KEV ------------------------------ From: "acffhmorST" Subject: Re: Sony TCD-D10 ProII patching question Date: Tue, 17 Jul 2001 15:42:25 +0500 (CDT) There is a different cable than the one which is included with the proII, it's a 12-pin to S/PDIF cable. I just looked at mine, it doesn't have a part number on it, but came in a plastic bag with the number (which I saved). . . I am on tour right now but can get the part number later this week for you- I purchased my cable from the oades, www.oade.com about 5 years ago and I think it cost me $140. It's a Sony, so it's the genuine S/PDIF output for the D-10, necessary if you plan to go into consumer-digital equipment, or transfer index marks (track points). . . I am surprised that your connection even gave you a signal at all. .. I think AES and SPDIF have different voltage requirements, as well as a few bits which have different functions, like the copy prohibit bit. . . this has been discussed at length, and I didn't pay much attention, check the archives to see if there's any deck which might be able to ignore the copy prohibit bit and read the AES signal with its S/PDIF connector... I know the Panasonic SV-3800 will allow you to specify connector separately from the code, but if you had a 3800 you could just go in and out using AES anyhow. . . you'll probably have to buy the cable. . . good luck and keep up posted! -tom =--==--=-=-=-==--==-=-=--=-=-=-==-=--=-==-=--==--=-=-=-=-=-==-=- Hey now, Just recently bought a new TCD-D10ProII.I was taping the other night in Boston and tried to give both a Casio DAR-100 and Sony PCM-M1 a digital patch.Neither would accept the signal. The D10ProII was lead deck, and I was using the supplied sony 12pin to AES-EBU(in and out) digital cable,to the standard adapter(aes-ebu to spdif). The Casio was receiving signal, but it was giving copy prohibit, and wouldnt record.I tried giving signal to a PCM-M1 and it was getting no signal at all. ------------------------------ From: "acffhmorST" Subject: Changing batteries with my preamp's phantom power left on!?! Date: Tue, 17 Jul 2001 15:51:40 +0500 (CDT) Has anyone tried this trick with a Beyer MV-100 or a Sonosax? It would be very cool to know that I can get away with a battery change without interrupting signal! What a great idea, that's why the capacitor seems to take a moment to charge when the device powers up! AHA! -tom -=-=--=-=-==-=--=-=-==-==--==--=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=--==--==-=-=- I got a Denecke PS-2 phantom supply and I like this box alot. Very lownoise, full 48V from a 9 volt battery, 5+ hours with alkalines, and there is enough juice in the capacitors that you can swap a battery when the "low" light comes on and not interrupt the signal (I only do this after the light comes on and a break in the music comes around. I imagine that the voltage drops a bit from 48V so you don't want to swap at full SPL). ------------------------------ From: CAP12@webtv.net (Anthony. --part2_127.191170b.2885fc69_boundary-- --part1_127.191170b.28860b14_boundary-- ------------------------------ From: Chris Bozzelli Subject: 24/96 and coax bandwidth Date: Tue, 17 Jul 2001 14:53:12 -0700 (PDT) Hi folks I recently started considering moving to an AD2K+ - I love the sound of it, and it looks like 24/96 laptop recording is just around the corner. I glanced through the benchmark site and in various places it mentions that it has "single and dual cable output for 88.2 and 96k." The back of the AD2K notes that in dual cable mode the main out is ch. 1 and aux is ch. 2. I heard recently that 75 ohm coax cable doesn't have the bandwidth needed for a 24/96 signal- which would seem to make sense, given the info on the AD2K- putting each channel on a separate cable cuts the bandwidth required in half. However, my Waveterminal soundcard info says it's coax input is 24/96- and there's only one input. Several other 24/96 interfaces also only have one coax input- including a couple laptop I/O boxes. The Waveterminal specs don't say, however, that the coax input is stereo at 24/96. So I'm wondering, out of curiosity- can a reliable 24/96 stereo signal be sent on a single high-quality coax? What about AES and optical? TIA, Chris __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo!
