With all this in mind, I think the ideal future for us is in enhanced, uncompressed MiniDisc specs, like using DVD-style pits and lands on minidisc-sized (approximately) discs. Or, to stick with one spec, we might get DVD-RAM drives which have audio imput. They're already out there, just not with audio in. The larger disc would allow longer taping or higher taping bit rates and sampling rates. I know I'm excited about the future! - Matt > From: "Bas Ruesink" > Subject: Furture of real bootlegs, any visions? > Date: Mon, 23 Jul 2001 20:02:04 +0200 > > Hi all, > > Just curious to know if someone has a nice vision for the future of > bootlegs. > > Does for example Internet/high speed cable downloading, end the sales of > bootlegs? Date: Tue, 24 Jul 2001 08:40:37 -0500 List: I was wondering if anyone knew anything about the Phillips Aucoustic Edge soundcard. It comes with S/PDIF in/out for $99 at Best Buy. What I am wondering is if it is guilty of that whole unecessary sampling biz like the SB Live. Check it out: > http://www.pcsound.philips.com/acoustic.html > > Michael > I found this link to a datasheet: http://www.semiconductors.philips.com/acrobat/datasheets/SAA7785_0.pdf After perusing it for awhile, I am fairly convinced that it sends S/PDIF data directly to the databus unaltered. On page 15 it talks about the serial interface (I2S) used for the S/PDIF transmit/receive and mentions that it transmits raw data at 48K, 44.1K, or 32K, but can be used with AC3 processed signals as well. This would indicate that it is likely that it processes S/PDIF raw, but has the capability of resampling in hardware (it mentions this in a different section) so you may have to be careful with the settings. Another page I found in a search mentioned that these are selling for $12.95 in quantities over 10,000, so it is likely you can find this card a lot cheaper than $99 somewhere on the web. -- Wayne D. Date: Tue, 24 Jul 2001 10:25:14 -0400 Common courtesy. Let's talk about it. I groveled for a 2001 DMB show from Buffalo, for a friend. I made a trade(sent mine first). He sent his and it skipped in places, both CDR's, 33 TIMES IN ONE SONG! I wrote back, he agreed that if it was his fault that he would replace them, if it was my fault somehow, he would send back my show. Well I haven't heard back from MARTY HANLON in a week and a half and he is ignoring my emails. His skips in the CDR's were very suspicious. One of them jumped to a different part in the song. The back of one had residue, which I told him about. He told me to try to clean it. Well, if it was on there before he burned the CDR, it wouldn't do any good. This is the DMB afterall. If anyone has any info on Marty please write me. You give tape trading a bad name. MARTY we will not be ignored. My friend is on a mission to find you(you don't live too far away). My advice is to send those CDR's before we are face to face, before it's too late. See you soon Marty! ------------------------------ From: "Pink Floyd" Subject: Bob Schneider Date: Tue, 24 Jul 2001 10:02:14 -0500 All, Was wondering if anyone had any Bob Schneider/Lonelyland shows from pre-June 2000? I have been taping him here in Austin for about a year and have about 20 amazing shows for trade. I am really interested in shows before I started taping him and shows from his recent national tour in other cities. He is extremely taper friendly, so just ask him before the show. Also, contact me if you will be taping him with Stevie Nicks in August. Sheesh! ------------------------------ From: BHance@BroadViewNet.com Subject: lemosax Date: Tue, 24 Jul 2001 12:15:38 -0400 I got one in '98 and love it. No problems. I got Neumann ak capsules and Neumann LC3 cables, and purchased the LEMO connectors from a supply house, and then had someone at ProDigital cut the ends off the cables and put the LEM0 connectors on. Apparently there are Neumann cables with LEMO ends, which is what I ordered, but I got the cables with the mic body connectors instead. There's a LC3 and a LC3-KA cable. I saved the price of the Neumann km100 bodies, and the Sonosax was the same price as the regular one - $990.00. This rig will work equally well in the TS or in stealth mode. -Bill From: ZAndersson@aol.com Subject: Sonosax SX-M2/LS -Preamp w/Lemo connectors Date: Thu, 19 Jul 2001 12:56:50 EDT Has anyone used the above unit and have information to share? If you are a fan of the old Roxy stuff - Re-Make/Re-Model, Virginia Plain, For your Pleasure, editions of You, etc.., you will want to go see them and roll a tape. Manzanera, Ferry, MacKay and Thompson are the original members on this tour. I was unable to roll a tape, and am hoping someone else did... I've heard that Ferry invited Eno to sit in, and he told Ferry that he would never again perform live in any capacity. -Bill ------------------------------ From: Matthew Hommes Subject: FS-Denon DTR-80P portable DAT Date: Tue, 24 Jul 2001 13:12:40 -0400 Selling my Denon DTR-80P DAT.
