I am still glad I made the switch though. Those new >MDs must be super compressed. [off-topic rant] Yes, the new "longer time MD's" are actually the same 80min disc, but in the new MDLP format, which has two settings: LP2 (160 min) and LP4 (320 min). Both are "stereo" in the same way that MP3's are in "stereo," as in, not really. Supposedly the LP2 mode sounds pretty good, but the LP4 mode is like AM radio and is really only usable in a lecture/hifi not required situation. I'll just stick with my Sharp MT-90 that I just bought. Runs on a AA sized NiMH for 7 hours rec/14 hours play, no MDLP, 24-bit A/D, and it's only $160. DAT has the advantage of the best possible fidelity and record time, but MD has way better battery time in stealth applications and cost, and has 99% of the fidelity. Better for my purposes. Not to rag on DAT though :) I was just uncomfortable with having $1300 of equipment in my pocket "in the pit" for the brief time I had a DAT. Little easier to stomach with $600 :) [/off-topic rant] Get 250 color business cards for FREE! http://businesscards.lycos.com/vp/fastpath/ ------------------------------ From: "Bryan Bowen" Subject: ISO - Power Supply for Panasonic SV-250 Date: Wed, 25 Jul 2001 23:32:42 -0700 My Power supply for my Panasonic SV-250 seems to have said goodbye. I'm wondering if anyone on the list has an old one lying around. I went to Panasonics website - but they do not have them in inventory. Perhaps if no one has one - someone knows of a good place in the Bay Area to have a Power Supply fixed. You may e-mail me privately. Appreciate all the help I can get. This is a great Dat deck and I'm not ready to retire it yet. Bryan. ------------------------------ From: O Nelson Subject: Roxy Music from the early years? Shame on you. Marty finally wrote back, offered no explanation for his defective CDRs but, said he would send back my show that I sent him. Even though he can clone it, at the least it is communication that I wanted - Not to be ignored. By the way, I never threatened him outright. I never said, "your a dead man" or something stupid. If we were to come face to face I would give him the chance to explain his side of the story. Except everyone must of flashed back to having their milk money taken and shook in their shoes. Gang email the bully! This email/internet is getting like road rage - You wouldn't flip me off if we were just standing here. Would you? And you wouldn't take my CD's out of my hand and run. This is everyone's site and I've done some good trades but, I think I'm going to buy my shows from bootleggers. They are less hassle and more reputable. All I wanted was the music... ------------------------------ From: "Joshua" Subject: sleazy bootleggers/www.mellowrecordings.com Date: Thu, 26 Jul 2001 08:15:16 -0600 I have to say, it brought a smile to my face to discover that www.mellowrecordings.com was no longer resolving to a webpage...and the irony of this guy getting bent out of shape from me leaving a voicemail extending my condolences really makes me chuckle... Not to mention that he validated that the phone number associated with the site is a current number for some one involved! No, it doesn't seem that David is the sharpest knife in the drawer. Having little scums trolling for seed material to sell from DAT-heads really rubs me the wrong way...In this case, it looks like public awareness and pressure successfully put 'em down and I hope that more people will post information about people selling recordings to the forum. take it easy -Josh =====Original Message===== From: RDComm1@aol.com [mailto:RDComm1@aol.com] Sent: Wednesday, July 25, 2001 6:05 PM To: sprung598@yahoo.com Subject: Re: DAT heads I gotta tell you..you are the lowest form of Internet geek I have ever encountered. I record on them all the time, and I used be very picky about tapes. I still am, but the Sony DG60P and DG90P have served me fine for years now. They do shed some oxide at the corners of the head because the shell isn't quite the same as on the audio-DAT's, but I have a service contract on one deck and the other is a panasonic, and there's not been a problem related to the DDS tape use. I don't recommend Maxell or KAO, but i've had fine results with the sony tape for few years now. Low errors, no jams, give 'em a try I think they're almost identical to the HHB or Sony pro tapes. good luDDS tapesck, and I can't tell you squat about the inbox or the MP-2, I don't have those units. -t ------------------------------ From: "Wayne D. I know not many people use them, but I'm hoping there might be a couple out there who can help me out. They're currently being powered by a 9v Core Sound battery module, with the selectable 140Hz bass filter. This works just fine, but I want more frequency options, since 140Hz usually kills the bass too much. I plan on getting a Sound Professionals module eventually, but will be taping 4 shows before I have enough cash to get one and I want some good bass in my recordings. The Sankens have a natural 50Hz rolloff, so I'm wondering if that will be enough to avoid using the Core Sound filter. I'll probably use it at the Area One festival, since electronic music is usually boomy, but don't want to ruin the Tool/King Crimson shows with thin bass. I'll be in the lower balcony, so I won't be dealing with the floor level bass, which I think means that I don't need a filter. I'm not sure though, and would appreciate any advice given. My other question concerns the built-in windscreens. I accidentally flattened the tips of them while mounting the mics in sunglass holders, and have been unsuccessful in reshaping them, at least from the outside. I'm not sure if it's possible to remove them without damaging the diaphragm, so I don't want to risk it. But now I'm worried the flattened windscreens will affect the mics' different frequency response. So, my question is: Will the frequency response be changed by the windscreens' shape, and if so, can I remove them for reshaping without breaking everything else? Thanks in advance for your answers.
