Speaking of Lithiums in an M1...do you get a good indication from the front panel battery condition display when they need to be changed? I swapped mine out last night for some fresh ones, (Eveready e2 photo lithium) before taping Spoon because even though the display showed full (three bars), on one occasion where I tried to shuttle forward from the beginning of the tape it unloaded and opened instead, and I thought it was giving me other troubles as well. I measured the open circuit voltage of the new pair at 1.79 V, and of the old pair at 1.57 V. Reply-To: Date: Thu, 26 Jul 2001 20:47:30 -0500 (CDT) Thanks for all the responses to this DOW thing ("Day of Week"). I searched a few tape lists and found it a couple of times. I guess I just had a tape that had it's source copied and they lopped off the actual day. It read: Schoeps MK-4 > Reutelhuber > D-10 Pro > DOW -- Wayne D. I'm aware retail has fallen significantly on standalones, and I am willing to sell at a mark that reflects the price drop. The unit has been meticulously maintained, and has logged well below 100 hours. A few meter-long TOSlink cables included along with all original accessories, housed in all original packing materials. Inquiries welcome; digital stills available. Hovering a bit above a few hundred beans...paid nearly four times that one year ago. Date: Fri, 27 Jul 2001 09:55:36 EDT I recently picked up 3 Nakamichi 300's and only have the CP1 (Cardioid) and CP2 (Omni-Directional) caps. I am looking to pick up a pair (or 3) of CP3 (Super Omni-Directional) or even CP4 (Shotgun) caps. I figure I only NEED a pair of each, as if I'm recording with the 3 mics, the directional properties of the third mic isn't very important. Please drop me a line if you have any to sell, OR if you know where I can find such an animal. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! The Sankens are only down 4 dB at 20 Hz, so it's not the equivalent of the typical bass roll-off filter, commonly designed to compensate for "hall boom" or boundary surface effects. Whether it be effective enough depends on the hall, your recording location, the EQ of the sound system, whether or not the air conditioning is rumbling, whether or not there's traffic noise seeping into the hall. In short, you should use your ears, get some experience with your equipment, and decide on the spot. > So, my question is: Will the frequency response be changed by the > windscreens' shape, and if so, can I remove them for reshaping without > breaking everything else? Thanks in advance for your answers. I don't know if the COS-11s can be disassembled -- contact the importer. If the case of the mic has been bent, that could affect the frequency response. If the windscreen was bent to the extent that it no longer passes air freely, you might have changed the mic's response. The Sankens have a three layer windscreen so damage might not be apparent. You might consider sending it back to the US importer for evaluation. I hope this helped! I expect that this new domain name should make the location of the FAQ much easier to remember and find. In an effort to keep the FAQ completely unbiased, untainted by vendor influences and bias, and more topical, I am requesting that it *not* be hosted on any other website without my explicit permission. In other words, WWW.24BITFAQ.ORG is now the *only* official web host for the FAQ. As the FAQ 's only original creator, and researcher and author of 95% of its current content, I believe it is within my complete authority to make such decisions. Two weeks ago, Sonic Sense was asked to remove the FAQ completely and permanently from their Sonic Sense site, and I do expect they will fully comply. In addition, I've updated it twice since the move, adding many links and information to some of the new soundcards being offered, some new Mac info(thanks Mike), and I have created a scheme that I hope will provide for the attribution of authorship to give proper credit to the submissions and words of third-parties like Mike Kelleher and Marc Nutter. I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank all those kind folks for their input and intense discussion that keeps the FAQ a truly living document. Just wanted to let everyone know, and I hope you all continue to find the FAQ very informative in your the quest for higher fidelity recordings. Thinking about it as I'm getting tired of my Philips consumer deck which has no level adjustment and burns at real time. Any problems with the high speed burning? Is it possible to adjust the levels while making a copy internally at either real time or high speed (i.e., without using an independent source for playback)? Also thinking about the Marantz CDR-631 and HHb CDR-830, if I can't get a decent deal on the Marantz dual tray. People have had great things to say about the HHb 850, but I haven't heard much about the latest Marantz unit or the HHb 830.
