What's an equitable ratio when trading DATs for >CDrs? >Is there a commonly accepted rule of thumb out there that I'm unaware of? i personally prefer to trade "show for show" & ignore the media involved; if i want to trade for something on CD-R but the trader wants something on DAT from me in return, i will do that & appreciate the same courtesy as well (yes there is a cost difference with DAT costing more but it seems to even out in my experience) also, sometimes there is more work involved in what happens behind the scenes in the CD-R from tape transfer anyway; i know that when i do it i spend alot of time doing it right, putting in accurate track marks, splitting shows up across discs evenly, perhaps even designing the artwork too! in fact i don't even offer CD-R transfers of my stuff just for trades, is too much work!! i only offer CD-R copies of stuff i've already converted to CD-R - jon - ------------------------------ From: "Geetarz" Subject: Mark Knopfler KFOG Broadcast Date: Sat, 28 Jul 2001 19:41:10 -0400 Any DAT-Heads that get a good strong signal (even better, digital cable radio) from KFOG in San Francisco? They are broadcasting Mark Knopfler live on Sunday July 29 at 7pm, I'd love a copy recorded to DAT or CD-R. Lots to trade, please hook me up as I have the misfortune to be on the wrong coast! ------------------------------ From: "Joe Totoraitis" Subject: Lithium Batteries & The PCM-M1 Date: Sat, 28 Jul 2001 21:10:04 -0500 >> Battery indicator is calibrated for the battery type: alkaline for D7/8 and NiMH for D100/M1. As such, the low battery indication is not going to work with L91 AA lithium. Experience seems to indicate L91 will power an M1 deck solid for about 5 hours regardless of usage, but will give up to 8 hours if these cells are run continuously. If you stop using the cells and especially if you give them an overnight rest period, you will only get 5 hours running time MAX. When L91 capacity is used up, the battery voltage and current may drop outvery quickly leaving little or no LOW battery indicator warning. >> Gotta jump in here with a little story... what the person(s) who posted the above are completely right. I was recently doing a show with Energizer (blue) lithiums... After about 5 hours of use they went from 4 bars to 1 and blinking in a matter of seconds... needless to say my tapes cut and as soon as I got home I bought a Pro Digital battery pack for whenever else I'm in the section... so again, lithiums, count on only 5 hours. Help me rescue a tape from mic overload? Date: Sat, 28 Jul 2001 20:27:22 -0700 So I did get a chance to speak directly to Britt and get permission to tape Spoon at GAMH; same for John Vanderslice. But being the lame newbie that I am, and not understanding how the mic preamp on this M1 worked, I overloaded the heck out of the front end and the recording sounds pretty terrible. I just read today that the M1 attenuator switch is not actually an input pad but a gain switch. So I guess I need to get an attenuator cable (or two). Anyway, is anybody here enough of a Spoon fan--or just an outsandingly kind soul--to listen to a 2-minute .wav/.shn and suggest how I might tweak it with Cool Edit to make it listenable? I'd told Britt I'd send him a copy, but this is embarrassing :o( And...am I guessing correctly that BWT means Bandwidth Trade? Anyway, I do have my earlier recording of Mike Doughty at GAMH available (July 11, 2001). Sounds a lot better than this one ;o) Thanks.... ------------------------------ From: "Carl Santora" Subject: Tapers still needed for Citizen Fish Date: Sun, 29 Jul 2001 12:10:09 +0800 Still need tapers for the following Citizen Fish shows: 7/27 - Baltimore, MD/ Otto Bar 7/28 - Philadelphia, PA/ Half Asst Space 7/29 - Winston-Salem, NC/ The Millenium 7/31 - Augusta, GA/ The Capri 8/1 - Tallahassee, FL/ Thunderdome 8/2 - New Orleans, LA/ Dixie Tavern 8/4 - Denton, TX/ Rubber Gloves 8/5 - Oklahoma City, OK/ The Green Door 8/7 - Tempe, AZ/ Boston's 8/8 - Las Vegas, NV/ The Cooler 8/9 - Corona, CA/ Showcase Theater 8/13 - Placerville, CA/ Placerville Veterans Hall 8/14 - Sacramento, CA/ Capitol Garage 8/15 - Chico, CA/ Mr. Lucky 8/17 - Portland, OR/ Meow Meow 8/18 - Seattle, WA/ Graceland Expenses will be reimbursed to the tapers for their help with archiving these guys. They damaged my deck when I sent it to them and then said it came to them that way and refused to fix it. I posted an explanation to this digest and received multiple offline replies that related similar occurrences. I can't speak for all the service centers but the Westwood one is a rip off. Stick with one of the reputable repair places like Pro Digital. They're probably cheaper too. > > Try: > > Sony Service Center of Boston > 390 University Ave. > 128 Westwood Industrial Center > Westwood, MA 02090 > > 1-800-222-SONY or 1-800-282-2848 > ------------------------------ From: ADunn81878@aol.com Subject: FS: Ratdog Pier Six Concert Pavilion, Balt. Ticket price. ------------------------------ From: Aaron Taylor Subject: portable mixers and CD offer Date: Sun, 29 Jul 2001 12:53:16 -0600 I need to find a portable 4 channel mixer for several applications.I will most often use it to make a room/soundboard matrix. My computer lets me download some things but not others.( It may be something I'm doing wrong, but that's another issue)So I can't access the owners manual for the Mackie 1202,AETA mix 2000,Rolls mx442 and Samson mixpad 4.There may be others I should know about, but that's my starting point. I'll also be using the mixer for recordings with two cardiods and two omnis.I've been told that I will have phase problems doing that.Any thoughts on the Rolls PT 102 phase tester?Until I learn to deal with the phase problems I'd like to be able to also bypass the mixer with the signals from the omnis going to my friends deck so we will atleast walk away from the gig with the omni recording. This is for acoustic music in a room with no board for a feed. My V2 has two sets of outs.I plan to run the omnis RCA out of the V2 > line in to the second deck. Also XLR out of the V2 to the mixer. The mixer needs to be able to take a line in signal thruogh the XLR inputs.Or I guess I could get a custom cable XLR to whatever the line in on the mixer is.There are certainly other ways to split the signal from the omnis. The point is that I need to be able to split that signal. Any suggestions or experience with any/and all of this would be appreciated. ( ie: which mixer, phase problems, splitting the signal etc....) Thanks. BWT for the first two to respond to me directly: Thad Cockerrell with Caitlin cary (from Whiskeytowm) at Pine Hill Farm.Or Tim Easton (from the Haynes Boys) at Pine Hill Farm.Take your pick. These are tranfered to CD.The rig used for both recordings was MG210>V2>AD2K+>DAP1.Pine Hill Farm is the room I'll be running the omnis in. ------------------------------ From: GuitarBud7@aol.com Subject: digi noise and drop outs Date: Sun, 29 Jul 2001 13:08:26 EDT Hey everyone I taped Bruce hornsby last night. It was a killer show and the tape sounds INCREDIBLE! the only problem is that when the 2 hour and 4 minute comes around, the tape is attacked by a short bit diginoise and then a drop out this happened an incredibly large amount of times until the end of the record (but the amount tends to deteriorate near the end of the tape) i just want to know how this could have been caused. I watched the levels a great deal last night, and it seemed that the dat was always getting a signal, so i dont know if it was the zefiro's or the AM-DIG cable. i am angered due to the fact that this was such a great tape. i used a dds tape cleaner last week to clean my sony d8 i run akg391's>b18>zefiro inbox (using an american digital coax I/O to 7 pin to get to the dat)>d8 i would really like t ospread this tape if there is any way i can fix this. possibly splicing another tapers recording into mine with their permission but if there is another way, i would really like t oknow if someone has any ideas or help to why this happened please post here or email me at Guitarbud7@aol.com thank you mark ------------------------------ From: GuitarBud7@aol.com Subject: Bruce Hornsby 7/28/01 Pines Theater Date: Sun, 29 Jul 2001 13:16:45 EDT hey if anyone on here taped Bruce Hornsby on 7/28/01 at the Pines theater (last night) please contact me i taped it as well, btu i had some problems so if you could please drop me a line i would appreciate it thanks mark goodell Guitarbud7@aol.com ------------------------------ From: "geoff nicholson" Subject: ISO: LOUISVILLE, KY STEALTH TAPER TONITE!!!
