Can anyone recommend any good Mac OS 9/ OS X software for doing digital manipulation of audio recordings with "the basics" (such as bass reduction, etc.) that ISN'T like $300? Shareware a la GoldWave would be nice. I'm looking for something that messes with the digital info as little as possible (doesn't do any odd re-writing or re-sampling or whatever...or send it through the soundcard to be re-digitized!). It even says so on the unit Denon stinks. I have no idea why a consumer stereo company can put the label (and that is all it is, a label) calling a product pro when it clearly is not in any definition of the word. I have pages of horror stories from customers and clients about Denon products, Denon service (service like on the ranch). Generally no one that has a Denon product is happy with it, God save you if you have to send it for service and if you own one Denon product, you will never buy another. He is right. You need to transfer with cdwave and then normalize with another program (sound forge, samplitude...) and then go back and do the track splitting with cdwave. If tracks are individually normalized there is no continuity and the job will sound choppy as hell. Sorry for the misinformation... my bad! The only way to normalize a tracked show is to fuse them back together again, normalize and then retrack the show or set. David Ziff =============== NO NO NO. If working with a live recording, and you normalize each track separately, there will be a noticable change in levels between songs. This can be VERY annoying. The reason this happens is that when you normalize, the software looks for the loudest passage, and then increases the volume so that passage is as loud as possible. -- Bob . ------------------------------ From: Seth Breidbart Subject: Re: Denon? I figure it's probably better this way since the wire probably has less resistance than the traces did. I'd imagine you can find parts with a cross-reference guide and use generic stuff that has equivalent or better specs, but I've never looked inside mine so take that with a grain of salt. If Panasonic is no longer selling the service manual, I can make you a copy of the schematic from mine, assuming I can find it. -Eugene ------------------------------ From: "Bob Silver" Subject: ISO P&F/Allmans/"Warren" *****Tickets for Charlotte, & Atlanta***** Date: Thu, 2 Aug 2001 17:01:43 -0400 I CAN GO!!!!! :) I've been trying to get to a few show this summer...but work prevented most of my attempts. Date: Thu, 2 Aug 2001 17:07:10 EDT The Sony D7 owner's manual says you can record using 48, 44, or 32 Khz sampling rates. However, the switch only allows you to switch between SP and LP. Is it possible to record at 44.1 Khz using a mic, or does this sampling rate only activate if you are hooked up digitally to a CD player? Date: Thu, 02 Aug 2001 21:02:50 -0400 I live about an hour from the Gove City Sony outlet and never skip it when in the area. But, more often than not they have NO DAT gear of any kind. From time to time they will have a refurbished D8, usually in the $200-300 price range. Have yet to see a D100 or M1. Occasionally see a home consumer deck. Like most outlet stores the stock varies widely on a regular basis. I wouldn't make a 4 hour drive hoping to find something specific without calling ahead that morning. Just back from the Oades where they installed brand new heads and transport, this unit has not even been taken out of the box (AKA, zero hours on the new heads). A+ bill of health. Absolutely BABIED in the 4 years that I have had it, this deck has never even seen a 90m tape and has one full year left on its 5-year extended warranty. $600 and I will cover UPS 3-day shipping. Date: Fri, 3 Aug 2001 18:51:24 +0300 I've read several posts mentioning a 24-bit mod by Oade but have never seen anything on their website about it; nor have I ever heard anyone actually say what it does; i.e. output a 24-bit stream? Or use 24bit A/D converters. Someone probably knows and I hope this is not a "stupid" question but if anyone could fill me in that would be great.
