The problem I have found is that this > line cannot be raised over 100% or 0 dB, that is, it can only fade, not > raise the volume in the envelope. Hence, SF calls the feature Graphic > Fading. Cool Edit and Cool Edit Pro both allow you to set the minimum and maxium to whatever you want. This, if convenient, you can make the minimum 0dB and have the entire graph go "up." Only one slight problem with CE/CEP volume envelope: it is adjusted as percent, not dB. One easy way to translate dB into percent (if you need numeric accuracy) is to enter the dB numbers into CE's "Volume adjustment," and then click the setting from dB to percent, and the number in the box will switch to percent. --G ------------------------------ From: PAUL HOVORAK Subject: Gary's Rant Date: Sun, 5 Aug 2001 22:34:38 -0700 (PDT) OK Gary you got your commercial plug in. Now go away. I'm tired of listening to you rip people. I am sorry that you carry Denon. I think Klays decision not to carry Denon is in the best interest of his clients. You opened the bag, now eat your lunch. Any dealer has the right to express his opinion on a product without a personal attack being waged. I guess some people are just confrontational. I will never buy a product from you now Gary. I would hope others would consider the same. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I have respected Bruce Hornsby for many years but never went out of my way to see him. I saw that Bela and Hornsby were playing together at a great venue in upstate NH, so I thought I would go tape Bela and see Hornsby for the first time. To say the least, I was blown away by Bruce! Not just the talent, I already knew that, but the stage persona, the setlist, the band, and overall relaxed atmosphere. I am now hooked and will tour with him in the future. Now down to business. I taped the show 8/4/01 in Gilford New Hampshire and want to set up trades. I must say the show quality is excellant. No roof in an outdoor setting with little crowd noise does make a great recording. My rig is: AKG C4000>Lunatec V2>Sony SBM1>Tascam DAP1 I am looking for other Hornsby shows! Does this sound >right? Leaving the batteries in the unit for a week >(no power) would cause them to drain? > I think you have/had two problems. First, most new rechargeable batteries including NiMH need to be run thru 2-3 charge/discharge cycles to reach their full capacity on a charge. Second, one of the few drawbacks of NiMH batteries is that their "self-discharge" rate is relatively high. That is, if you charge them and then leave them sitting on a shelf they will slowly discharge. All batteries do this to some degree, but for NiMH after a week they will lose a significant percentage of their charge. Other battery types don't discharge as quickly. So... fully charge and discharge your batteries once or twice, then charge them fully the night before or day of your next show, and I think you'll be fine for a 2-3 hour show. Also, I'm not familiar with the details of the charger supplied with the M1 but you may want to look into an intelligent charger which, after fully charging the batteries, automatically switches to "trickle" mode which keeps them fully charged. Then you just leave the batteries in the charger for days/weeks between shows and then grab them on your way out the door and they'll be fully charged. They cost around $25-30. Date: Mon, 6 Aug 2001 11:45:23 -0700 First of all, forget about the Sony batteries and get some decent 1500mAH batteries. I always charge an hour after the green light comes on, just to be safe, the night before the show. The batteries go in just before I leave for the venue. I'm probably a bit paranoid, but NiMH batteries do self-discharge pretty fast; they're usually dead in a month or so on the shelf. I presume you don't have another deck; otherwise I'd recommend ff/rew in the other deck and not using the batteries in your record deck. -Eugene ------------------------------ From: Eugene Hu Subject: Re: Lucinda Williams Date: Mon, 6 Aug 2001 12:11:07 -0700 > While in the past I think Lucinda herself has been somewhat ambivalent > about taping, her road manager (at least on her most recent tour before > this one), was very, very anti-taper (taper=bootlegger, period). > Certainly, she has no official "open-taping" policy in place, and your > best bet is to stealth. Shows on this tour are well under 2-hours. She played 2:05 or so in L.A., fortunately I was running a 125 minute tape. Pausing between encores may have cut that down a bit, but a 60m would have been too close for comfort if it fit at all. Also, FYI, Lyle Lovett played well over 2 hours in L.A., so I'd recommend a 90m for those taping him.
