Hello,
I just lost my CSB's, which I was pretty happy with. Is there any Under $500
mics that anyone can recommend that are an upgrade from CSB's?

hi guys,
sorry for the shameless grovel, but I'm fairly desperate
to get a DAT of radiohead @ Montreal August 5. I should
be taping the upcoming Boston and 2 Jersey Citys. I wanted
to skip taping the montreal 'cause I just wanted to chill
out and enjoy the music.
I have a *ton* of Pink Floyd and several other Radiohead
DAUDs to offer (but nothing from the 2001 tour). The Montreal
is a must-have, but I'd love to get earlier shows from this tour,
as well. And, of course, I'm always interested in low gen Floyd. E-mail
me for a list.
many thanks,
Anthony

I bought my D3 from a guy on ebay, and he had taken the regular battery that
comes with the D3, hollowed out the battery shell, and wired a homemade AA
battery pack to it. I'm sure someone on this list could better explain how
to do this, I'm no electrician, so I'm just happy to have this set-up. It
works great. I've taped 2 hour shows with the light on, and never have had
a problem with the power running out.
Hope this helps!

Subject: DPA 4060 Mics from Tapers section???????
Date: Fri, 10 Aug 2001 22:23:24 +0300
I am considering purchasing a set of Core Sound HEB's. I am looking for
opinions from owners and I have previously corresponded with Len; but a
non-biased view is what I'm searching for (Len, I do though value your
opinion). I was wondering if any DPA 4060 owners (Core's or not); have ever
attempted taping from a distance i.e. Tapers section as opposed to FOB. I
have done some research on the mics and from what I have read they are
purportedly EXTREMELY accurate. I am looking to use them on a 15ft mic
stand in a Jecklin / Schneider Disk type arrangement. What I am most
concerned with is in the diffuse soundfield of a tapers section, if being
omni they will pick up too much reflected vs. direct sound and therefore
detract from the enjoyment of the recording. The reason I am considering
them is my hypothesis that in being so accurate and uncolored at recording
the sound at any given point they should sound at least as good as the
concert sounds in person from the same location. I am hoping someone has
taped with these from that distance and can share with me the success or
failure they have had. I'd hate to through out a grand and not be able to
use these except in stealth situations.
Two other non-related quick questions to throw out for discussion
1. Does any one know if an SBM-1 mod'ed or not can be made to output 48 kHz
instead of 44.1?
2. Does anyone know if the psycho-acoustic compression of minidisk
negatively affects the psycho-acoustic clues present in a binaural recording
that effect directionality? (I am not looking for a DAT vs. Minidisk
discussion I realize DAT blows MD away just wondering for extreme stealth
considerations)
THANKS TO ALL,
CHRIS
P.S. If this post is repeated I tried to send it earlier but I have waited
two digests and it has not appeared so please don't flame me. =)

I hate to do this, but getting out of credit card debt is more important
than spinning tapes right now...
Just back from the Oades where they installed brand new heads and transport,
this unit has not even been taken out of the box (AKA, zero hours on the new
heads). A+ bill of health.
Absolutely BABIED in the 4 years that I have had it, this deck has never
even seen a 90m tape and has one full year left on its 5-year extended
warranty.
$550 and I will cover UPS 3-day shipping.
Thanks.

Although I do not know much about internal dat2wav conversion....my guess is
that it is an old ASPI driver and the latest drivers can be downloaded from
adaptec.com. I have a similar problem with my CD-R drive several years ago
when they were "new". Good Luck, Chris

So I fu#!&ed-up taping the Phx David Byrne show. Must
have accidentially hit the -20 db switch off (its in
such a bad place on the DTR80P) and the tape is
nothing but distortion. (I know, I know, don't say
it)
Looking for any copies of the recent tour. Have an
excellent copy of Byrne, Phx, 7/9/94 for trade. Will
also take one B&P of the 94 show as a WOB tax for the
blatant grovel.
P.S: This show is a must see when it comes to your
town. Great mix of Byrne solo and Talking Heads
songs. Excellent band, great sound.
Peace, August.

all of us regular tapers up front put our mic stands

I taped Tues, but security made all of us up front put

Anyone seriously thinking about taping Eric Sardinas on his upcoming tour

He again does an extensive world tour with Steve, much as last year.Go out
and tape him, this man is bluesrock at its best!Need to go stealth though, he
became concerned when I told him that I taped his Munich show last year but
was really nice when I told him to send him a copy and will not release it and

I have to disagree with Dan in his scolding of another vendor's advertising
on the list. As long as its done succinctly, tactfully and occasionally, I
personally have no issue at all with anyone posting relevant products to
sell. My Internet connection is extremely slow (26.4!) so getting
information through one list rather than site browsing for me is actually
helpful!
This is a newsgroup? Well, a price reduction is news. A new product is
news. Perpetual friction between vendors on this list isn't.

Does anybody know were to find this song of Warrens...what show was it
performed at?
Does anybody have it?
**************Patchwork Quilt****************
Lyrics: Warren Haynes
Music: Warren Haynes
Written by Warren Haynes in memory of Jerry Garcia, and played with Phil
& Friends.
I never knew you
But then who really did?
If you were at all like me
You managed to keep yourself hid
A patchwork quilt of a life
Memories embroidered
On your soul
So please forgive me
For putting you in my song
But the spirit she moves me
In fact she pushes me along
It's a patchwork quilt of a life
Can't stop the river
Just let it roll
We were at Jones Beach
When we got the word
Saddest sound that I ever heard
The bluest note that nobody could play
Ravens sang with us that night on the stage
Tears of sadness, tears of rage
But nobody spoke, we all felt old
And in the way
So walk beside me
Or above me, I don't know
These days it sure seems
I'm lost where ever I go
God, how could you, I heard someone say
And what do we do with our lives now anyway?
Now that our north star can no longer be found
But there's a banjo moon in a tie-dyed sky
Hippies dance and babies cry
Church bells ring as a silver-haired angel look down
And the blood of his music runs through the veins of our guitars
Bright lights, Dark Star
I never knew you
But then who really did
If you were at all like me
You managed to keep yourself hid
Peace,
Boca Bob Silver

Subject: newbie questions
Date: Sat, 11 Aug 2001 11:47:14 -0400
Howdy folks, just recently got a D8 and have a few questions:
1) What is the preferred media for taping? DDS tapes? I hear audio grade is
much better quality, I dont mind paying for quality. I would love to get
specific brands, 60m? 90m? I've seen 60m that were 94 min. and i've seen 60m
that were 2 hours of tapes? I'm confused.
2) What are the most common board patches? (in bars and clubs) I assume
bands in bars and clubs use the board that'a already there but what are the
most common connections? I have 1/4", RCA and plan on getting a XLR(m) to
1/8" cable.
3) From what I can tell I would use my line in for sbd and if I patch into
someonelses rig (via a 7-pin I/O) I dont need to touch my record level at
all?
4) Power: For now I plan on using the AA batteries and then in a couple
months or so invest in a battery pack. How long will the D8 average with the
AA? Regular duracell or energizer. I've seen different stuff on the times
but I would like to get feedback from people who use the AA. I've heard from
2-4 hours.
Thanks for the time, I tape my first show 8/17 so I just want it to come out
decent so any other input or tips is more than welcome :)
peace and zambi :)
