He loves Nazareth so much that he named his first daughter Nazareth. His second favorite is Journey. Does anyone have any Journey?? Date: Mon, 13 Aug 2001 21:41:11 -0700 (PDT) Its stealth, but there was no bag check and little security in Phx. The show is well under 2 hrs, but expect several (three maybe) encores. There was an opening act in Phx. A brazilian band named SiSe. Execllent lead singer with moves to match. I used the opening act to walk around to listen for the best sound, which interestingly, was not DFC. If anyone has or gets a copy of David from this tour, please let me know. My tape was a disaster (my own fault) and this show is too good to only hear once. I have masters from David's 94 tour to offer up for trade. Good Luck. I hope to see and tape him shortly. What kind of anti-taping policy should I expect? How careful do I need to be? How long are his shows (still under 2 hours)? One set? Any help appreciated. Check out the tour dates @ http://www.knac.com/servlet/Article_Page?articleID=18580 Since they play 6 or 7 times pretty close to my place, Saxon might be the only band around that will bring this old and lazy body of mine to go on tour again.Last time back in 1999 they were so cool about me taping they even put me on the guest list for two shows!I'll try to get in contact with the band to make it a little more official this time. Anyway, anyone thinking about taping Saxon somewhere on the road in Europe?? If so, please let me know...Might be able to help you out (though I cannot promise anything here). The tape came out pretty well. Not my best but still damn good. It was a great setlist with a few surprises. The show was taped with M1>Core Sound high Ends(DPA 4061)>Att(-20db). I will throw it on disk tomorrow and be open for trades by Friday as I am planning on taping them again Wednesday. The ONLY things I am interested in are high quality recent Tool shows. Especially tomorrows show at the Wiltern. I am also very interested in the palladium shows from 3-26/3-27-97. Finally, I am interested in the king Crimson set from tonight. I had to deal with Traffic so I missed the first 15 minutes and didn't bother making an incomplete. If you have any of these please let me know and we can set up a trade. Also, I am way too busy for Blanks and Postage deals right now, sorry. Thanks, Ed -- "You're not going crazy Arthur. You're going sane in a crazy world." The Tick Want To Trade DATs? I don't have a huge list but some of what I've got is very tasty. So anyone with old/new stuff, I'd really appreciate it to hear from you. Seems there are very very few of us that bother to tape some of the old traditional stuff. Your list gets mine. ------------------------------ From: "American-Digital" Subject: Re: Mitsui CDRs .49 cents each. Reply-To: "American-Digital" Date: Tue, 14 Aug 2001 09:28:58 -0400 I think the rules should stem from the individuals themselves. An area called common sense. To me, to post advertising on a newsgroup is wrong. Reasonable minds can clearly differ on the subject, that is true. Different tolerance levels is also applicable. However, just read the digest and find an opening to answer a question, add to the environment and place a little plug. It isn't asking too much. We placed ads like Munson's on the digest a few years back. A DAT-Head emailed me privately questioning the activity. I agreed and have ceased. ------------------------------ From: Mattwillia@aol.com Subject: Re: sony D7 backlight Date: Tue, 14 Aug 2001 10:19:34 EDT At 02:03 PM 08/11/2001, Mike Hooker wrote: > i got busted the other nite due to the radioactive glow from the display >light on my D7. has anyone ever put any kind of filter over the display that >kills the glow, yet lets you see the display? For what its worth, I've used two pieces of smoke tinted (almost exactly the same color as the D8) "static-cling" vinyl on my D8 for the last 5 years with great success. It sticks by itself and leaves no marks or residue on the DAT deck. And it can be used over and over. It dims the display a good bit but its still very readable. I've still got a bunch left if anyone needs some. Drop me a line and I'll give you all the info. Think of it as window tinting for your DAT deck. Matt ------------------------------ From: "Jackson Gibbs" Subject: Saratoga Hornsby Shows / Bay Area Sightseeing Date: Tue, 14 Aug 2001 08:04:42 -0700 I'm getting awefully excited about these, coming down from Oregon for a week of baseball (go A's!) and wrapping up with a couple nights of Bruuuce. I haven't been to a show with just Bruce before, so I'm not entirely sure what to expect. Anyone on the list going to be taping it? I'll have my Sony M1, no digi-cable (on backorder from Oade) but hope to get analog from someone(?). Anyway, since I'll be in the bay area for almost a week I'm making a list of things to do. I'll have about 5hrs/day of baseball and I've got the standard travel guides, but I was wondering if anyone on the list can suggest the best book, music, home electronics, dat, etc stores in the area? Finally, I'm married to a caffine addict and my hotel will be somewhere in the vicinity of Pac-Bell park... where's the best cup of coffee in the area? It seems the security has been fairly lax at shows so far... but stealth with care. The shows are running between 100 and 120 minutes. Good luck. BTW, there is a video of a recent Byrne video here (he looks wild with white hair): http://WindowsMedia.com/previewv2/xpconcerts (I downloaded this and have copied it to disc). Those gel sample books work great, if you can find one. If you want to get fancy, you can make a permanent change to your D7/8 backlight by carefully disassembling the LCD panel from the top cover, and inserting a strip of lighting gel between the panel and the plastic window. There's only a few screws and it's pretty easy, but be careful of the fragile ribbon cable. Different gel shades will give you different display colors, I prefer a dark green. The only problem is that it makes it difficult to read the display when the backlight is not activated. Erik ------------------------------ From: "Hobbs, Jim A" Subject: ad500/D100/D8 won't record Date: Tue, 14 Aug 2001 13:51:01 -0400 Hey Now! We were recording Grisman at the Grass Roots Fest in Oregon Ridge. The set up was 184>pre>ad500. Out of the AD was one D8 optical and one D100 coax. All was fine. Then a P1 (mine) was plugged into the second coax with a couple of D8's out of it. At that point the D100 and the to D8'd out of the P1 would not come out of record pause. The signal was there and no sign of copy prohibit on any of the units. Tried running a CO2 in front of the D100...no joy. Whasup??? So it appears the only tapes being made from this rig was the optical out and the P1. Except, when I got home and played the tape on the 3800, it popped and jumped all over until it got so confused it's cleaning light came on (high error rates). Bad tracking? Next, I played the same tape on the P1 and no signal, no nada. When I FF or RW it would then play the info (but at the FF pace). Other tapes in the 3800 play fine w/ low error rates. Tapes used were Sony DG60P. So the only one who got the show from this rig was the optical D8. Any of the veterans have an idea of wtf happened? Secondly, it would be greatly appreciated if someone could help me out w/ a copy (trade or whatever) as I was suppose to spin one for the rig owner who couldn't get unlocked. Grisman was the whole reason for being there, even in the monsoon and lightening. Date: Tue, 14 Aug 2001 11:45:21 -0700 Just cuirous to know if one can actually put a 44.1 kHz/20 bit PCM file to wav onto a CDR? Are there software or burners that will allow the extra info to be encoded so they can be read by a HDCD decoder? Is SBM by SONY written onto the HD when the PCM file is transfered to WAV via a digital coax from DAT (that was previously recorded with an M1 or SBM on a SONY DAT deck)? Sorry if these seem like naive questions but I'd really like to know how to get more out of my new Toshiba DVD player with HDCD decoding, if it possible to encode the 44.1 kHz/20 bit stream onto CDR. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ ** FOR YOUR REFERENCE ** To unsubscribe from this digest, please send email to dat-heads-unsubscribe@datheads.phish.net If your email address has changed, you may (optionally) send the message to dat-heads-unsubscribe-oldaddress=olddomain@datheads.phish.net and the old address will be removed.
