Soundboard, A- sound, A- crowd. I'll take the third request to hit my inbox for a blank+postage of this single shn cdr. These requests come up rather frequently but I wonder what chances are you will really find one. If someone had a good, older portable DAT, chances are they would want to keep it. It's when it starts acting flakey, that they will suddenly want to sell it. Of course, I am somewhat biased because i sell new D8's ($644)... But, here is one tip for identifying the condition of a used D7/D8. Put in a *recorded* (NOT blank) 90m tape and hit FF. If it stops and says 'blank', the machine is on it's way out. Not that it doesn't have a year or more of life left (with the exception of the fact it won't FF properly), but it's not what I'd call 'good' condition. And if at any time during your testing the machine "resets" - ie - turns off, display goes blank, and then comes back - run, do not walk, from that Dat machine. It's a good idea to turn the backlight "on" during the testing - if the light is suddenly "off", you know it's done a reset. --Gary ------------------------------ From: "lee bittner" Subject: Trade 7-pin plug Reply-To: southsur@hotmail.com Date: Sat, 18 Aug 2001 16:37:26 -0700 I have a 7-pin Sony optical plug that i'd like to trade for a Sony 7-pin coaxial plug. I purchased it about a year ago as an upgrade from using the mic pre on my m1. I used it for a while until I saved up the money for an E.A.A. and a mod SBM1. I bought it new. It is going for $225 plus whatever it costs to ship it. Someone posted a sample "threat" letter from an RIAA lawyer to a seller of unreleased recordings on CDrs. It was amid an eternal thread regarding the legality of our hobby, and threats to the trading community brought down by bootleggers and profiteers. If anybody remembers this post (or wrote it?) and can email me the contents, I'd appreciate it! Thanks! Sean BWT: one B&P of the Who 8/10/68 AU/? I've read an interview where Josephson clearly stated that they used to import and rebadge MBHO's, to fill an affordable niche in the US market below the Neumann's and suchlike. They then brought out their own series, but it was unclear whether there was still an arrangement for MBHO to actually manufacture these (higher spec'd) mics. Josephson also make very high qualiity custom-made stuff for other companies and for scientific research. I'm sure that the dealers on this list, though, will have more accurate info. Flower Kings will be at Variety Playhouse and Spock's Beard will be performing at the Dragon Con 2001 festival. I will UNFORTUNATELY be out of town at a convention in Dallas, TX during this prog-infested weekend!!! But if any local or southeastern prog-head tapers would be attending either show (especially SPOCK'S BEARD - A MUST HAVE!!!!) I will volunteer to pay at least HALF-THE-COST of either event, just as long as I get a DAT clone or CD- R copy of either show. More important though, is indeed SPOCK'S BEARD. This is the first time them or the Flower Kings have played the Southeast!!!! For Spock's Beard, you WOULD have to purchase a Dragon Con ticket. Again, I will gladly help out in that expense. And nothing against you MD tapers, but I would prefer a DAT taper with stealth mics (if necessary) for especially Spock's Beard. Not sure of SB's taping policy, but Neal would be the one to ask. You can check out their website at: www.spocksbeard.com Please email me if you are willing to tape Spock's Beard. That's the more important one of the two to me. If anybody out there digs the old-style Yes (esp. the crude-sounding Chris Squire bass style), you will TOTALLY LOVE SB!!!!! Neal Morse is the lead singer guitarist for the group, and he's played with other side projects including most recently Transatlantic with Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater, Pete Trewavas of Marillion, and Ronnie Stolt of The Flower Kings. Also, any prog taper/traders that have any SB, FK, DT, or Marillion, please contact me as well. Got plenty o' goodies to trade :) Thanks for the bandwidth. Sorry for blabbing so long, but the SB show especially is A MUST TAPE!!! These guys are unbelievable just by listen alone, and surely another day I WILL get to check them out for myself. But hey, I'll take any willing Flower Kings tapers too :) Peace, prog, and music, Brian DAT/CD-R list: www.mindspring.com/~ibizabar ------------------------------ From: "EZ Rider" Subject: Speed and pitch discrepancy in digital transfer Date: Sun, 19 Aug 2001 14:43:32 -0400 Hi I have an unusual situation here. I recently bought an Audiophile 2496 from Len so that I could do digital transfers from DAT to my HD. It is installed and working fine - or so it seemed for the first month or so. Now I am noticing what I had overlooked at first. There is a discrepancy in the abs time display on my DAT player and in the record timer of Sound Forge XP. The time seems to advance faster in SF (I believe that it was SF that was faster but could have it backwards ) than on my DAT display when digitally dubbing a tape. At first I ignored this, and thought it was just a strange artifact. Until I had the chance to listen A/B to the DAT and the recorded CD back to back. Now I notice that there is a discrepancy of about about 1/2 step between the two, with the DAT being slightly but quite noticibly higher in pitch than the dubbed CD. I can only assume that the timing clock on the PC and on the DAT are not in sync. How do I fix this? Any suggestions, feedback, or advice would be most appreciated. regards Michael Otto (EZRider) ------------------------------ From: Gianni Pavan Subject: optical isolation Date: Sun, 19 Aug 2001 20:53:39 +0200 As I often work in hostile environments, I try to use optical connections and optical isolation (for example on the RS232 port) to prevent electrical interferences. I'm wondering if you could suggest something about this matter, and in particular, I would like to ask if you know of optical isolators or optical extenders for the USB bus. Date: Sun, 19 Aug 2001 12:54:39 -0700 (PDT) Hello all, Well, after a year of begging and pleading I have finally gotten a nice little gem straight from one of the studio engineers that used to work for the Black Crowes. I am not a huge BC fan so I am unsure as to exactly when this was recorded, but the track listing follows. These were supposed to be the final takes (recorded in Atlanta) right before they went to LA to mix and do overdubs - for what album I am not sure - seems some of these songs went on a couple of different albums. This fellow said this was for the 'Shake Your Money Maker' sessions, but I am unsure. This is a direct copy from the master DAT that came from the studios. The person I got this from was reluctant to give this tape up as he had to sign a waver saying that he would never let anyone else get ahold of it - blah, blah, etc. Anyway, here is the set list - 'Remedy' has no vocals yet and is nothing but the basic track! 1. Black Moon Creeping 2. Dad Luck, Blue Eyes, Goodbye 3. Hotel Illness 4. Darling of the Underground Press 5. Sting Me 6. Thorn In My Pride 7. No Speak, No Slave 8. Sometime Salvation 9. My Morning Song 10. Remedy (music only) Any trade offers are welcome. peace, Travis __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
