I taped Phil Lesh and Rat Dog 12th row center at SPAC. I also taped Little
Feet at the Egg in Albany on aug. 11. I have transferred these DAT tapes to
cdr and would like to trade them for blank dats. Preferably 2 or 3 hour
orange hub sonys. That would be 4 dat tapes for all 3 bands. Both shows
were taped with Schoeps MK4s > VMS 02ib > Tascam P1.Serious inquires only.

I've been wondering the same thing. Other products to consider are the
Opcode DATport and a new one by Edirol (related to Roland?). I think these
two would have to stay in the digital domain, as I don't beleive they offer
analog ports.

hi all, i want to make a point about DVD-RW and DVD+RW.
=====begin rant =====
namely, be careful what you purchase (especially after reading this
article)or else you may wind up with a BETA. i am not supporting either
format yet. However, i don't want to buy another beta myself !!
this HP drive in the article is NOT DVD-RW, rather it is the competing
DVD+RW format. This article is extremely one-sided and biased, it is rather
like a commercial for DVD+RW.
i am currently living in Tokyo, Japan - ground zero for the introduction of
new consumer electronics - and here at least so far DVD+RW is looking like a
loser. In Japan, Pioneer has been selling home DVD-RW units for almost a
year now. Additionally, Sharp and Kenwood are also selling the same Pioneer
units under their brand name. Pioneer now has not one but THREE different
DVD-RW models to choose from. Two of these have firewire in/outs for
hooking a DV camera or other firewire device to directly record (digitally
transcode) to DVD-RW. Additionally, Pioneer has been selling their DVR-A03
computer DVD-RW drive here as well as the states for a couple of months now.
This article mentions nothing about this. Furthermore, the article also
fails to mention that Sony is hedging their bets and is supporting both
DVD-RW and DVD+RW. However, Sony is already producing DVD-RW hardware.
They are selling one Vaio desktop PC with a built-in DVD-RW drive in Japan
(and maybe the US) and they have already announced they will produce a home
DVD-RW in the beginning of 2002. Panasonic, the creator of the DVD-RAM
format has already caved and is sellingDVD-RAM/DVD-R capable drives and home
decks. I am just saying let's look at the whole picture !!
Ask "Why are there no DVD-RW decks in the US yet?" ---- Answer - Can you
spell M-P-A-A?
---rant off-----

Does anyone here receive this weekly Public radio live music show? I used
to get it, but the Washington DC show recently stopped carrying it.
You can check to see if any stations near you carry it by checking their
website at http://www.etown.org; it seems to be mostly stations in smaller
towns that carry the program.
They get a lot of good artists; usually with a folk bent. Upcoming guests
include Suzanne Vega, Loudon Wainwright and Roger McGuinn. I'd love to
find someone who could tape these artists and who might be able to tape it
regularly in the future. If you have any older ones that would be even
better, the show has been around for a long time, but I just discovered it
on DC radio a few weeks before it was cancelled! :(

all,
I've set up this yahoo forum to trade DAT tape
contents as lumped SHN files.
The idea being (same as it ever was) to trade
high quality digital transfers from DAT tapes
in SHN format without sample rate conversion,
rather than running the gauntlet with DAT tape
trades and all its associated perils - tape rot,
diginoise, format obsolescence .....
(Non DAE cdr shn based trades are also fine but
not the main point of the list)
Any bands/genres welcome - its not aimed at
etree associated bands, its an invite to any
DAT/digital traders who 'know what they're doing'
and would like to trade material in this way.

Frank V points out to me that SoundForge has a tool that "extracts"
(not from an audio disc) from a Regions list and writes separate .wav
files for each track/region. Other than having to rename the resultant
files, this works like a charm. Thanks Frank.

Hello folks,
Sorry for the off topic post, but given the amount of CD's most of you
burn, maybe someone can help... I am trying to put a hidden track at the
beginning of a CD. When you hit play, the first song starts. To hear the
hidden track, you would need to scan backwards to the beginning of the
track. There was an x-files soundtrack CD that did this a number of years
ago, containing a hidden Dirty Three track. I am using a Mac with Toast &

Subject: Mic recommendations for bird sounds
Date: Tue, 21 Aug 2001 13:55:43 -0500
Hi everybody,
My sister is planning on buying a portable MiniDisc to record bird
sounds for work purposes (my brother and I tried to convince her an
M1 was a better option [for all three of us] but she's on a limited
budget so she'll have to go with a MiniDisc). Anyways, I'm wondering
if anyone can recommend a good mic to do so. I have some experience
using a Sony ECM-9207 (? I can't remember the exact model number)
electret condenser mic to record various outdoor "noises" with fairly
good results. I'm guessing a stereo simple-point mic similar to this
one might be the best option.
Thanks for any info,
