From: JH <kc7fys@pro-ns.net> Subject: Mudhoney 20 Aug 01 First Ave. MPLS master to trade. Date: Tue, 21 Aug 2001 14:34:15 -0600 Hello, I generally don't trade DAT, but use it to transfer to CDR, then move the DAT into the pool with all the little kids peeing into the chlorinated water.... Mudhoney, First Ave., Minneapolis, 15' FOB, Sanken COS-11>D100 44.1K turned out beautifully, clocks in at 95 or so minutes total, or 80:15 edited onto a single CDR with time cut before the encore. I know this master should circulate unexpurgated, so... Please email with your list attached and I'll send this DAT out to you. Preferrably in trade for some 2CD show of yours. Thanks, Jonathan
From: John Fink Jr <fink@tcnj.edu> Subject: Plant 5/27 & 6/1 needed Date: Tue, 21 Aug 2001 14:41:12 -0400 Hi, If anyone has nice copies of these (Phil. & NYC) shows please contact me. Plenty to trade ()including the Toronto and DC shows)! Be Well, John
From: "Robert and Karen" <karrob@bellatlantic.net> Subject: ISO Tascam DA 30 manual (not the Mk II) Date: Tue, 21 Aug 2001 15:37:12 -0400 posting this for a friend who is not on the list. he recently acquired a Tascam DA 30 (not the newer Mk II model) and is looking for a manual. if you can help with a photocopy or scan of it please email him direct at dsnyder@navillus.com. he'll make it worth your while! thanks Robert
From: "Dan Greenberg" <letitgro@warwick.net> Subject: extra SKB 8/11/01 for B+P Date: Tue, 21 Aug 2001 15:57:27 -0400 This was the late show in the upper ski lodge at the recent Berkfest. It was recorded with DPA 4023s > Lunatec V2 > Sony SBM-1 > Sony D8 with mics attached to a pipe 8' up DFC about 15' from the stage. It is the full show (~108 min.) and recorded on a Sony 90m DAT. It's also one of the first shows with Steve's new bass player. In return, I'd like a sealed blank Sony or Maxell 90m DAT plus postage. But here's the hitch...I will give it to the person who promises to make the most B+Ps to others who ask. So tell me how many B+Ps you're willing to make (and mention SKB 8/11/01). If you are the 'highest' bidder, I will then direct other inquiries your way for you to deal with. The offer will close 48 hours after the digest hits my inbox. Hope this sounds fair, as I plan to do this more often. -Dan Greenberg-
From: Delano <eagle-winged-palace@home.com> Subject: Byrne update Date: Tue, 21 Aug 2001 16:18:03 -0400 Unfortunately, I was not able to tape David Byrne at the Ryman. (My stuff is not very stealthy and the Ryman is not the best place to try to stealth - even if I did, the crowd noise would have limited my results). I have a few Byrne shows and this was definitely as hot or better than anything I have heard from him in the past. Byrne had the crowd of the Ryman in the palm of his hand (or vice versa - there were 3 separate encores (left the stage and came back)). I believe the show was approximates 2 hours/10 minutes or longer (better run a 90m just to be sure) comprising at least 5 songs (Life During Wartime was smokin' and David's backwards dance is pretty funny). The setlist is a very nice blend of new and old material (and a cover tune, Whitney Houston's "I Want To Dance With Somebody"). Of course, most songs have that signature, Talking Heads strobe-like poly-rhythm groove, which are just as dance-inspiring as they were 23 years ago. It was definitely the most animated crowd I have ever seen at a "sit-down-crowd" show (watch out tapers, go fob, in the hat if you can). This was my first Byrne show - I won't miss him again (next time I will be ready). I believe there was one person taping (but I didn't want to approach during the show and couldn't find afterwards). If you taped the show, or any Byrne from this tour, I would love to setup a trade. I stopped counting, but I have approximately 6000 digital hours (see website below). Take Care, Delano http://www.geocities.com/digitaldelano/
From: Delano <eagle-winged-palace@home.com> Subject: digitally boosting levels? Date: Tue, 21 Aug 2001 16:24:04 -0400 What is the preferred/accepted way to boost levels on a digital recording? For instance, I have a very good audience dat master (not taped by me) recorded with peak levels approximately -10 dB. I am going to convert this to disc. What is the best way to boost the levels while maintaining the digital integrety? Take Care, Delano http://www.geocities.com/digitaldelano/

From: "Gary Davis" <gdavis@loop.com> Subject: re: Hidden track Reply-to: gdavis@loop.com Date: Tue, 21 Aug 2001 14:20:37 -0700 This is very easy to do with CDRWIN but I don't know about a Mac. Any program that lets you write a formal cue sheet should work. For CDRWIN, it looks like this: file yourmusic.wav wave track 1 audio index 0 0:0:0 <-hidden track starts here index 1 2:30:0 <-CD will start playing here (2mins 30secs 0frames) track 2 audio index 1 4:30:0 <-next track starts here etc. When preparing the music data, leave 5-10 seconds of blank space before the start of the hidden track as a "landing zone," because if you scan back too far (all the way to the beginning), most CD players will jump back to the beginning of the first track. I sometimes use a hidden track to show off my remastering prowess; ie, a sample of how much worse the tape sounded before I worked on it. --Gary

From: Martin Amdur <gmst@sympatico.ca> Subject: unwanted emphasis on a Sony D3 in a chain Date: Tue, 21 Aug 2001 20:05:49 -0400 I recorded the Burt Neilson Band the other day with a setup that looked like this: Matrix: SBD & AKG C 1000 S> Samson Mixpad 4> Zefiro Inbox> Tascam DA-P1> Sony PCM-M1> Midiman CRO3> Tascam DA-P1> Sony TCD-D3. Now both Sonys are mine. On the M1 the recording is normal but on the D3 The recording has emphasis. The highs don't sound quite right. I did this to test the D3 which I got on ebay and to test the CRO3. I'm assuming the Midiman CRO3 is responsible for this but I'm not sure. I was wondering if any one knows about this? Is it caused by forcing no SCMS on the CRO3? Thanks for your help on this, Martin
From: "Ryan McDaniel" <Rmd@deainc.com> Subject: ISO: info about Narrow View ----> Small (Tri Cities) Date: Tue, 21 Aug 2001 17:26:00 -0700 There used to be a band from the Tri Cities in Washington called Narrow = view. This would have been in 1989 or 1990. They Changed their name to = Small. I think they changed it after that because other bands were named = Small. Does anyone on this list know anything about this? I want a copy = of their demo tape. Please email me if you have any info about this. = Thanks

From: Chris Bozzelli <c_bozzelli@yahoo.com> Subject: Ad 500e xlr digital out Date: Tue, 21 Aug 2001 21:35:23 -0700 (PDT) Hey folks, Got another question for the digital format knowledgeable. I have an ad-500e, and I was wondering if there was a way to use the xlr digital out to feed a second chain of decks. The Ad-500e has selectable spdif or AES formats, and the manual says that all the outputs will feed the selected format, but the voltage will be different. At least I think that's what it said- the language seemed a little cloudy to me. Will the voltage difference cause any problems? I could build the needed cable pretty easily, am I right in assuming it's Pin 2&3 signal, pin 1 shell/ground? TIA, ~Chris p.s.- I got swamped on Radiohead requests, so I couldn't get back to everyone...I'm still wading through the emails and I'll contact more people as I have time. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
