Nope. Digital in can take 32, 44.1, and 48 khz but digital out is fixed at 48. I'm not sure if anything is done to the signal on the input side of things, but since the output is fixed that card is useless to me and I haven't looked into it further. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ From: Mike Hooker Subject: digi-noise Date: Wed, 22 Aug 2001 22:42:26 -0400 hi, ive had my first instance of digi-noise from my D7. it occured once, about 70 min into a 2 hrs tape. i dont think it was connection or mic related, as i had a minidisc running back up on the same gear, and no noise. its a short drop out and some static. as an experiment, i recorded 2 hrs of silence on the same tape with my D7. playing the tape back thru my sony 700 deck into a cool edit file gave me 2 hrs of complete silence, not a ripple, bump anywhere, just nice flat line on both channels. is this a valid test? anything else i should do or look out for? the deck was recently given a clean bill of health by sony service. thanks see my music trading page ( new URL): http://www.oe-pages.com/ARTS/Ballet/mikehooker have fun, Mike Hooker ______________ ------------------------------ From: "Bonnie & Cleve Svetlik" Subject: Sony outlet store - Grove City, PA Date: Thu, 23 Aug 2001 08:33:07 -0400 I live near the Sony outlet store in Grove City, PA. (The store is at the exit from the interstate just west of Grove City in a huge outlet mall). They do not either get or have DAT equipment other than tapes. The folks there said they stopped receiving DAT equipment about 2 or 3 years ago. During my last two trips to their store, the last visit being 2 weeks ago, I did not see any "professional" level gear (other than tapes, of course). Possibly some of the other locations may have different stock. If anyone on the list has found this to be true, please let me know. I believe the artist has the final say. I'll have to say that tool is an odd fit for that. It is mostly "heady" bands and that will be a rowdy crowd in NOLA at halloween. I'll be interested in how they go over at that festival. Mofro is gonna do a fall tour and i'm hopin i don't have to wait til the come here to hear any shows. I'd like to reccomend them to any funk fans on the list and highly reccomend taping them. They have the removeable clip option and a fresh battery in the battery box. (The battery box does not have the switchable bass roll-off filter.) Windscreens included. I've owned them for 2 years and used them only a handful of times. I've made some great tapes with them. I'd like to get $195 plus shipping. Please I am not looking for opinions on the "best" preamp in the market. Rather, am looking for general information on what is available along with ideas for things to look for. Here is the situation. I have a Beyer MV-100 which I can best describe as a trusty old tank. It has never let me down despite its many shortcomings. My number one complaint is that in loud recording situations it cannot handle my CCM-4's directly, they run too hot. So I use a set of external -10db pads and they do the trick. However they are bulky and one more thing to have to carry along, worry about, stick down my pants(!) if need be, etc. Have thought about cutting traces and soldering in some resistors to accomplish the same thing internal to the box, but just can't bring myself to do it. It would be nice to have something which could run on internal rechargeable batteries. This is not a requirement but would be nice to have. Definitely not looking to lug a gel cell around as stealthability is important. I have a pile of old 9V batteries which are not only not cheap but I feel a little guilty throwing away a pair after every show. The cutting edge of NiMH rechargeables might be able to run the MV-100 for barely 2 hours with phantom but I need 3+ hours. Next, it would be nice to have something a little smaller. I've opened it up and there's a lot of empty space in there. With a little cunning they could've made it a lot smaller but alas they didn't. Finally any sonic improvements would not be a bad thing. Not that I'm unhappy with the performance of my MV-100. I've never done an A/B comparison. Aside from reading product descriptions such as "unmatched performance" etc don't know what specifically to look for. I don't need bells and whistles. Hell I have the gain and LF cut switches taped down as it is. But for instance some preamps mention a transformerless input stage like that's a feature, but then one of the features listed for the Sound Devices MP-2 is "Premium Lundahl input transformers provide superior sonic quality and freedom from interference problems". I don't currently have any interference problems. But if I'm after "superior sonic quality" are "premium input transformers" a must-have? Thanks for any informed input on this rambling post.
