My local station experienced technical difficulties during the DMB 2 hour
Chicago 7/6-7/7 broadcast Labor Day weekend. I'd love to hear the broadcast
in it's entirety. I'd like to trade for a nice clear dat copy of the full
broadcast. Please contact me if interested.
Thanks,
Chris

My apologies for the previous post, I apparently hit the wrong key and sent
the message. Anyways, I have the following equipment available: (Prices
shown are what I paid at purchase date)
1. Sony RM-D3K w/remote
2. Sony ECM-S220 Microphone
3. Sony TCD-D3
- Above items were purchased used in Feb '97. I have one non-functioning
sony battery to go with the D3. Also included are the original manuals, and
a Sony 7-pin toslink cable. The D3 was serviced before I bought it and has
had very light taping duty since (<100hrs). There is a problem with the
mic-in/line-in switch on the D3, I have the new part and the service manual
(I fixed the problem by taping the switch in place).
4. Eco Charge Omega Battery System - $174US - 3/3/97
5. Core Sound Stealth Cardioid Microphone Set - $250US - 3/27/97
- These items were purchased new and I have original invoices and manuals.
One of the mics on the CSSC's is missing the little black felt pad.
6. Tascam DA-20 w/remote - $1130CDN - 03/06/97
- Purchased new from Steve's Music in Toronto
7. Sony DTC-59ES used - $400US - 03/26/98
- Purchased used from the DAT Store - no remote, though the remote that
comes with the D3K works for this deck as well.
8. Zefiro ZA2 ISA card
- With box, software, cable. Purchased new in 03/97.
I have also got a bunch of blank DATs (unlabelled KAOs) that I will count
and post for sale later.
This equipment has been taking up space at my new place for the past year.
None of it has seen more than light usage, which is why I am selling them.
Make me an offer I can't refuse on one or all of the items. Buyer pays
shipping.
cheers .mark.

I wanted to remind everyone who will be recording Tool this year about
the Tool Tapers/Filmers list I run at
http://members.home.com/catalystx/tool2001.html. I've had a good amount
of participation so far, but now that the full US arena tour is
underway, I'd really like to get more people on the page.
For those who aren't familiar with the list, its purpose is to help
tapers/filmers easily find and contact each other for obtaining high
quality 1st generation recordings. It's a lot nicer than having to
scrounge around the web yourself. If you have any questions, they're
probably answered on the page, but feel free to contact me if not.

Subject: FS: Sony TCD-D8 DAT Recorder w/ RMR-D3
Date: Fri, 07 Sep 2001 15:19:00 -0400
Hi there Dat-Heads.
I have a Sony TCD-D8 portable DAT recorder/walkman in excellent
condition that I am willing to sell for $375 including shipping in the
US.
Comes with manual, power adaptor, and carrying case.
I also have a NON FUNCTIONAL RMR-D3 I am throwing in as well. It won't
turn on; possibly due to a bum power supply, or at the minimum, a
special Sony 10amp fuse that I can't find a replacement for.
The RMR-D3 is the Remote Control/Digital I/o adapter that allows you to
interface with the D8 recorder. If you can fix it or know someone who
can fix it cheap, it's a great addition to have.
Email jizzay@bellsouth.net and I will respond promptly!

Subject: MBHO 648a vs. 603a
Date: Fri, 07 Sep 2001 17:19:04 -0400
Hi everyone,
A big THANK YOU to all you guys who answered my mic upgrade question the other day.
Now I have a second question:
Has anyone compared the sound, and powerconsumption between the MBHO 603a and the 648a?
From what everyone tell me the 603a is hungry as hell.
The MBHO website specify the 603a to around 4.5mAh and the 648a to 1.7mAh.
If the 648 is so much easier on power, then you should easily get 4 hours with a PS-2, or??? Does it sound crappy or why does everyone only talk about the 603?
I´d be happy for some answers guys. Thanks in advance.
Thomas

Subject: DAT story
Date: 7 Sep 2001 15:07:00 -0700
Dear DATheads:
It all started in 1995, ….well, maybe 1994, when I got married. I suggested that I wouldn't attend my own wedding if Jerry died. So a year later, IT happened and I didn't attend the funeral. Instead, I bought a DAT deck, and began trading shows, to try and keep the music alive.
I purchased a DA-20, didn't get an extended warranty, have been dry-cleaning the heads whenever I remember (logging the date). The Tascam was my choice because it has SCMS defeating capabilities. And, I found out later, you obtain error codes by doing strange combinations of keys and knob positions. Basically, the DA-20 is a professional deck that was dumbed down for the consumer market. It has served me very well for the past 6 years, and keeps on working.
I first traded by sending out blanks and postage. Then, I would tempt people with my shows by sending out my master tape, along with a blank, and people would send me back both tapes, my oringinal show, and a new show; I'd supply postage each way. Thus, I accumulated about 100 shows.
After being single-decker for a year or so, I did the only logical thing, I bought another deck, a D-8. And I purchased a core-sound RCA in and out 7-pin cable. Now I was ready to patch in at shows and trade one for one.
It has been a great "strange trip" meeting all you traders through DATheads, and at the shows. The subculture is a rewarding venture. I have only lost two 90 meter tapes in all my trading (I use 90 meters all the time in both decks, no problems). And I don't think the people were not rip off artists, just too dosed. I've been able to acquire just about every taper friendly live show I've ever attended. My collection is now over 300 shows.
Now, comes the reason for the post. I am upgrading my taping arangements and thought I'd share the tech-no info.
I have purchased an Iwill (iwillusa.com) motherboard kk266plus-R with a 1.2 GHz Althlon processor ($135 + $116 at tccomputers.com) plus a 256 MB RAM and 60 Gbyte 5400 rpm ATA-100 hard drive ($29 + $69 at fry's) and a 12x DVD, 40X CDRom drive ($39 Frys) along with a SPDIF riser card for the Iwill motherboard ($19 frys) and a new case ($42) for a grand total of around $420 with shipping for a sound editing system. The motherboard has integrated CMI8738 6 Channel w/SPDIF (through IWILL SuperAudio). With my Soundforge 4.0 and a 4X CDR, I hope to be transferring my DAT collection to CD media, and trading the DATs out, for more CD's.
But that is not all, the Iwill motherboard has built in RAID, so, eventually, I think this box is going to be serving up shows.
Keep 'em moving, no matter what the format changes; that will keep the music, and Jerry's memory, alive.
Thanks to all for your generosity of time and interest in trading. Hope this helps.
JoE

Subject: FS: AT4041 Recording rig
Date: Fri, 7 Sep 2001 21:02:50 -0600
Hey now,
It's high time I cleared out my old recording rig that's been collecting
dust since I bought my Neumanns.
I'm selling a nearly complete recording package, just add a DAT deck (or
even a MD deck, which is what I used with this set before I upgraded to
DAT). The rig is a nice minimalist rig built around Audio Technica's AT4041
cardioid microphone. The AT4041 is a very nice, high-output mic. It's a
bright sounding mic, but it has a full bass response that extends flat to
20Hz.
To learn more about the AT4041, check out the following websites:
http://www.audio-technica.com/prodpro/profiles/AT4041.html
http://www.sospubs.co.uk/sos/1997_articles/jan97/at4041.html
The recording package includes the following and is all you need to start
recording. Since the AT4041 have very high output, recording PA systems
allows you to use the phantom power together with the low>high impedence
matchers and go directly into the line in of your deck, negating the need
for a preamp (and as they say, no preamp sounds as good as no preamp).
Original prices are in parentheses.
AT4041 mic pair ($560)
Rolls PB223 Phantom power-runs on 2x9volt ($65)
8' On-stage stand and t-bar ($50)
Low>High Impedence transformers ($25)
10' AT mic cable pair ($25)
various adapters and output cables ($30)
Aluminum flightcase to hold all ($45)
Pair mic shockmounts (homebrew)
$800 worth of equipment, I'm asking $550.
This is a complete set-up, ideal for someone who has been patching. I've
made some excellent recordings with this package, happy to share with
prospective buyers. Looking to find someone who wants it all, but I'll look
into selling the mics separately if there are no takers.
-Todd
BWT: I'll take a few for moe. 10.31.00 Tower Th, Philly. AT4041>Rolls
