Two digests ago someone mention Octava mics manufactured overseas vs. =
those manufactured in the USA. To the best of my knowledge, all Octava's =
are built in Russia. However, some US distributors QC the mics =
extensively and some do not at all (Guitar Center). Some go as fas as =
matching pairs. Good pairs can still be found at GC, but one should =
definitely test them prior to purhcase.

OK,
So the Silos played here last night and reunited for the first time in 10
years with original Silo Bob Rupe. They played many songs off the Bird Album
and Bob Rupe sang all the songs you thought he would and sat in for most of
the set. I would have driven many many miles to see this show. I thought it
might have been 1990 or something. They closed with Tennessee Fire and it was
so bad ass.
Ware River Club from Massachusetts opened and played their great songs plus
covered a Mats tune. Any interest? These tapes are absolutely ridiculous.

please e-mail your responses to me by September 21st if at all possible

Hey guys,
Forgive my ignorance, but I need some advice.
I need a new soundcard for my PC. It's a PIII 600MHz, 256 RAM, OS is WIN2K
Adv. Server.
I'm looking to be able to transfer DATs only (as far as digi-transfers go);
so do I ONLY need a 16 bit card?
If so, what are my best options? I'd also like Digi-out, and analog I/O
too.
I was getting set to drop a bunch of cash on a 24/96 card, but if 16 bit is
all I need, I'd rather spend less on something that suits my needs only, and
this recent talk of problems with the Audiophile cards has also made me
rethink things...
Please reply offlist if this topic is too pedestrian for the list.
Thanks!

I cannot hear a difference. I've listened on Marc's system at his place of business, and do not notice a difference between 16 bit and 24 bit recordings.
It seems like lots of wasted $$ for all that extra data storage, gear, etc...I'm not going to argue techno-babble....I just don't hear the difference. Plain and simple.
Your mileage may very.

I am sorry to do this...BUT...I am in desperate search for someone who is
in NYC to record this show and ideally send 1 DAT clone up to Boston for
those who need the healing power of beautiful music. This is a night that
should not be missed. I normally wouldn't do this but the usual suspects
in NYC are not there right now or I cannot contact them...these are some
dark times...music will help us through...
Please drop me a line if you can cover this show...I am willing to cover
your $15 admission if you can produce a very nice tape(Mulvery, Bernstein,
Curtis, you out there???). Plus, this is very a very good cause...I am
getting chills just thinking about it...

i like the unit a lot (certainly a lot better than my phillips 870, which
i'll sell to anybody with a reasonable offer [trickable type]) BUT:
1) you can't ff/rew << & >> from the front panel (can only change
tracks >>| & <<|)
2) the big problem i've discovered - i've always hated how you have to
select optical or coaxial for input stream (the philips auto-detected)
but even after you have selected one if you have a live feed on the
other it will often go into D-UNLOCK! state and screw the disc up
(i like to run DAT to CDR while listening to another CD)

i bought a tascam cdr700rw to replace it and overall like it better
the reasons i don't like the 870 are:
1) SCMS
2) about 1 of every 10 discs goes poof (others have seen the same thing)
3) doing swap trick isn't that hard but still something i don't wanna deal with
any reasonable offer considered (buyer pays for shipping too)

Date: Wed, 19 Sep 2001 12:02:02 -0700
Garbage will opening for U2 on the upcoming fall US tour. At this time it
appears that Garbage will only be opening the first 6 shows. Obviosuly the
U2 shows will be taped, but I'm hoping that anyone taking gear inside will
also record the Garbage sets.
These will be the first Garbage live dates in 2 years, and they have a new
album coming out Oct 2nd as well (Oct 1st in Europe). These U2 shows will
be the first chance to hear the new Garbage material in concert. I have
been taping and collecting Garbage shows since pretty much the beginning of
their career, and therefore have plenty of nice stuff to offer in return for
any of the upcoming shows. Here are the dates:
Date City Venue
Wed 10/10/01 South Bend, IN Notre Dame Joyce Center
Fri 10/12/01 Montreal, QC Molson Centre
Sat 10/13/01 Hamilton, ON Copps Coliseum
Mon 10/15/01 Chicago, IL United Center
Fri 10/19/01 Baltimore, MD Baltimore Arena
Wed 10/24/01 New York, NY Madison Square Garden
There is a PRESALE for the above shows on Thursday Sep 20th. See u2.com for
info.
Please tape Garbage! Thanks,

I have this item listed CHEAP on ebay. $33 minimum bid:)
http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1465657195
Works great with AT853 or AT933 or any other like mics. This item has been
used twice. I upgraded my mics and preamp; so I am selling this unit.
Ideal for minidisc but is great for a low budget DAT stealth setup.

Hello, I need help IDing this recording. Stefan Grossman, 47 minutes,
DSBD, 44.1K, and it's on a DAT tape with Leo Kottke 4 Jul 92. I initially
thought they were the same show, but it doesn't seem like it, and the
sampling rate changes after the Kottke set.
He says, "When I was growing up here in the village--and there's a lot of
guitar players here tonight... Some heavy vibes up here, I tell you..." He
talks about Lonnie Johnson, and Larry Coryell, and his son's joke about
making faces.
Any idea?
