Neil & CH - 11/20/76 NY (early show) (I only have the first half of the
early show, and it's from mini-disc)
I'd like to get either DAT or CD copies of these shows without analog
gens from the master.

Holy crap, I just checked my documentation and you're right! They ARE merely 6/L. I thought I ordered 6S/L's...but I checked what I paid too and it was merely for the L's, hmph. Well, change that portion then, Paid $475, looking for $400. Apologies to everyone for my confusion.
Pretty sure I already have a buyer anyway, and I'll be sure and inform him "personally" (by email), but I just wanted to let everyone know so that no one thought I was trying to rip people off.

Apparently tix went on sale via sciticketing an hour earlier than was
advertised and I got beat. Sigh. I imagine security will be amped up
for quite some time in NYC and I don't think trying to sneak stealth

I can personally say that this is the most tasteless subject debate that the
digest has ever stooped to. I have an acquaintance at work who lost both
parents on one of the planes that destroyed the tower. Although the
technical merits of taping the sound of the event are something that could
arguably be discussed here, it is extremely insensitive to touch on the
matter in light of the scope of human tragedy that has taken place. I would
like to think that there are others who probably share the sentiment,
especially in light of the fact that there are many New Yorkers who
participate/ read this digest. Sean was kind enough once already to keep the
digest focused on being a good place to take your mind off the events.
Let's keep it that way. How about the parties involved in this debate take
it off line as a sign of respect for the victims. Thank you.

Just wondering if someone in the Boston / New Hampshire area knows of a
place to get a DA-20 fixed or would have an idea why I am getting error
readings in the 49 50 - 50 00 range all the time. I haven't used the unit
much in the past 2-3 month but when I tried a while ago it had these issues.
I am afraid to send it in the mail, and tired of dealing with Repair Master
claiming I am not in their computer system so any help in finding a local
place would be appreciated. Thanks

Is there any harm in 24 bit recording? Are 16 bit recordings inferior if they
originated in 24 bit? All the tech talk here (sine waves and square
waves...) conjures the image of a Gary Larson cartoon. We see an
expressionless cat and a completely empty thought bubble over its head. The
caption below reads, "What cats hear". In this analogy, I am the cat.
I once spoke to the chief tech guy at Sony's film to tape transfer facility
in CA (Culver City I think). In preparation for a Sony commercial DVD
releases, they take their 35mm film negative and transfer it to HDTV 1080i
tape. That HD tape in turn gets downconverted to MPEG2 for DVDs. I asked
him: why go to HD at all? They could just go from that film source directly
to D1- an uncompressed component digital NTSC format? The response was; "Why
not?"
So why not do 24 bit recording? Any harm?

Oh yeah; obligatory DAT filler; My Sony ZA5ES transport is screwed up. It
wont rewind. There. Dont we all feel better?
