Due to my finances I am liquidating all things relating to the dat
world.
Tascam DA-20 MKII (purchased winter '98) $250.00

My Dat List: 141 Total tapes.Mainly Phish(50 tapes), MMW (19 tapes),
Ween (11) and other Dead, Marley and many indie bands-like Sonic Youth.
($2.00 each or $141.00 for the lot)
OR If you are willing to take the lot I will sell everything for
$750.00.
Both dat machines have never had a problem and I am the original owner
with manuals and remotes. All tapes sound very nice, but here is my list
for sources.

Stanley and a host of hometown American, Honky Tonk and Bluegrass bands
play two sides of who we are
In 1992, Ralph Stanley, bluegrass legend and Grad Ole Opry member (Oh
Brother Where Art Thou? soundtrack), gather some of his friends and
favorite musicians including, Dwight Yoakam, George Jones, Emmylou Harris,
Ricky Skaggs, Bill Monroe, Alison Crause and others to record "Saturday
Night and Sunday Morning."
* On the one side, all Saturday night songs - Lying, drinking,
cheating, murder and love.
* On the other, all Sunday morning songs - Redemption, revelation,
salvation and love.
This record was the inspiration for the September 29th and 30th concerts,
featuring Ralph Stanley and his Clinch Mountain Boys, Bellwether, House of
Mercy Band, Quillian Roe of Accident Clearinghouse, Angel, Molly Maher,
Lackluster Dodge, Urban Hillbilly Quartet, The Platte Valley Boys, the
Carpetbaggers and many, many more.
The Same Line up Plays Both Nights

This event is what you might call taper-friendly, but beyond that we're
looking for a taper who has the know-how and means to make an 8-track ADAT
or other of this show, 4track, direct into your ProTools setup, whatever,
of the show. If you are a bluegrass and alt.country fan, this two evening
event is not to be missed, and if you are a taper, I'd like to get ahold of
you for the event.

Oh, the show is this weekend, the 29th and 30th. The 29th at the Turf Club
in Saint Paul, cost 15$ in advance, probably starting around 7. Sunday the
30th's show is at 5:30 PM at House Of Mercy, 499 Wacouta in Saint
Paul. It's free, but limited by capacity.

Oddly enough, my experiences have been quite contrary. For the last 15 to
18 times in a row that I traveled pre 9/11 I was thoroughly searched and put
through the gun powder dst / bomb test.
Suice then I have purchased a LowePro Camera Backpack that I travel with all
of my gear in. Perhaps that is the difference, but when I flew from DFW to
ATL and back the weekend of the 14th and 15th, I expected to be put through
the ringer.
I was not.
Both times I put mics, power suppply, a>d, sealed lead acid batteries,
tapes, capsules, an m1, and accessories through the security check point
with no hassle. It almost scared me how easy it was. Looking back I
probably should have discussed this with the security checkpoint manager,
but I did not.
The only things that I did different were changing my carrying case and
placing my SLA where it went through the xray machine with the 4pin plugs
facing upward. I think this may have minimized the shock of mot being able
to see through something since it appeared considerably smaller.
i am not expecing this again, but it goes to show you never can tell.

As high as the current X-ray machines are being reported as being, I
would try to have the inspectors do a hand inspection on any tapes. The
equipment is probably OK, but the tapes could get damaged depending on
the strength of the x-ray machine. You might also want to consider
purchasing a lead bag for your tapes. This is what I have used in the
past for my film. You can purchase these at any camera store. If you try
to just put this in your bag, you'll piss off the security folks and
they'll want to inspect the package, so do yourself a favor and take it
out of your carry-on and let them hand inspect it. Since they are x-
raying non-carry-on luggage too, it might be a good idea to use the lead
bag if you are going to put your tapes in your regular luggage.

I've got a Mac and will soon be doing this (though the following works on
pc's too). I was considering Opcode's DATport (s/pdif->usb) or SONICport
(same plus analog), but I got a rec from the Oades for the EgoSystems
Waveterminal U2A and will probably go with that -- 24-bit instead of
20-bit, phone jacks instead of miniplugs, s/pdif optical *and* RCA (only
one with Opcode). Same basic price range and it sounds a lot better,
though I haven't tested the extent of its advertised Mac compatibility
(Opcode says they "will" be compatible in 1999).

Can anybody give their two cents worth on the Denecke AD20 and the SBM-1
with Oade Pre-amp mods as decent Mic Pre-Amps w/A/D converters? Also is
there an appreciable difference going to a nice Pre-Amp like the Sonosax
SX-S2 or the Sound Devices MP-2 w/o going into another A/D box (Nice Mic
Pre-Amp w/o A/D vs cheap all in one A/D Mic Pre-Amp)? I want to stealth
with nicer mics (Schoeps mk4>kc5>cmc6>) but really am trying to keep every
thing to a minimum (like cmc6s, one box and the M1 on the belt).

This is a perfect settup for someone who is looking to get into taping or
upgrading a bit. This is also very good way to do it. I'd like to sell this
as a package deal if possible and not break it up. The mics have had very
low usage. They taped a bunch of dead tour in '95 but have been used about
12 times since. They were purchased new in Fall of '94 for $1575. This is
also an versatile system due to the interchangeable caps. The CK98 shotgun
is all that I have to sell but the different caps for the mics, cards,
hypers, omnis, figure 8, are relatively inexpensive. For inquires email me

I've been thinking about purchasing some mic cables from
www.oktava.com and it would be a TON cheaper to make
my own cables then to have them make them for me. They
have this really small diameter cable that I think would be

How hard is it to make your own cables? I can't imagine that
its that hard, but I'm wondering what I need to know in order
to make a good cable. Maybe it wouldn't even be worth it to
make my own cable? They charge .60 a foot...how much do
decent connectors cost? Their prices are below...
I have a soldering iron and some soldering experience.
Any advice would be great.
