Are they all >fairly similar and well respected? Is any one type of extraction not >recommended? penny #1 - EAC is the preferred program of choice for anyone interested in getting the best possible digital audio extraction (DAE) quality off a CD/CD-R....it does error checking which no other program bothers with...plus, as an added selling point, it is FREE (just send the author a postcard) check out these links for more information about EAC: http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/ http://pages.cthome.net/homepage/eac/ http://www.ping.be/satcp/tutorials.htm http://groups.yahoo.com/group/eac EAC does take some time to understand & configure correctly, but the links above can help greatly with that, and like most things that require effort, it is worth it penny #2 - to the best of my knowledge SOUNDFORGE cannot do "DAE", it is primarily a sound "editor" and although it can be used to record music via various inputs on your PC, it does not "extract" audio off a disc best of luck with whatever program you decide to use, - jon - slipkid@voicenet.com
From: Bill Shaw <Bill.Shaw@hds.com> Subject: Radiators in paris (and Europe) Date: Wed, 3 Oct 2001 14:23:36 -0700 The New Orleans Radiators are doing a 2 week trip/tour to Europe. Although soundboard patching is generally the rule at Radiators shows, they will not be taking their full gear, instead renting much of it over there. The upshot is that there will be NO BOARD PATCHES at the Radiators European shows. Audience taping is permitted and even encouraged. Although I am not going, my KM140's are! (lucky mics! ha ha) 10/7 Brugge, Belgium 10/8 Amsterdam 10/9 Paris 10/10 Paris 10/11 London 10/13 London 10/15 Amsterdam 10/17 Darmstadt, Germany 10/18 Amsterdam See http://www.radiators.org for details. From: Scott.Goodwin@AstenJohnson.com Subject: CDs for sale on eBay Date: Wed, 3 Oct 2001 17:18:32 -0400 There are two ways to deal with people selling boots on eBay: 1) Report the guy to eBay. They'll yank the auctions and his account 2) Bid a ridiculous sum on his auction(s), like $109,943.56. That'll slow down the bidding! Personally, I like solution #2! SWG
From: Cjyellow@aol.com Subject: taping question...please help (soon:) Date: Wed, 3 Oct 2001 17:37:31 EDT i have a friend who is a club dj, and wants to make a "live" recording. it's in a small club, so there will be ALOT of people talking and other background noise. for this reason, i am planning on doing a matrix with mics and the board. here is the question: i want mostly board feed, with a tiny bit or room sound, just to get a feel. i have: 2x cardiods, 1x omni, 1x hyper, and a small mackie 1402. would it be better to run the pair of cards (either in the back, pointed at the stax, or from the front, towards the crowd - it's a small room, and the sound will travel very equally around) into the matrix, or just hang the omni from the celing, over the dance floor, and pan it in the middle (so it goes into both channels) again, i am looking for about 10% room, just for the ambiance. any help would be appreciated. this is thursday night, so please reply to my mail account, as the diagest might not arrive in time:) thanks! steve cjyellow@aol.com

From: "ev" <ericv@nyc.rr.com> Subject: RE: Paris Radiators Shows Reply-To: "ev" <ericv@nyc.rr.com> Date: Wed, 3 Oct 2001 22:46:52 -0400 There should be some tapers there. A better place to ask might be the HeatGen list, which you may subscribe to through the band's website: http://www.radiators.org/listserver.html They are very taper friendly. So much so that Kenny, their excellent FOH Engineer, almost always feeds a nice mix into a large patchbay (1/4",RCA,XLR outs - see http://btat.wagnerone.com/) and provides a/c power strips. The Europe tour is one of the few times that tapers have been told to bring mics and be prepared to provide their own power. I'd expect some special shows. So if you walk away with nice tapes and convert to .SHN, please email Dave Bukove or myself with .txt and .md5 files for the newly added and growing section of RADs shows that's being compiling on www.etree.org. Other contributions welcomed, as long as you confirm that they're needed here: http://db.etree.org/shnlist.php?artist=41&year=2001 peace, further... e "Mincey, Patrick" <pamincey@davidson.edu> wrote on Wed, 3 Oct 2001 > > Hey now, > wondering if anyone is going to be taping in Paris next tuesday and > Wednesday the Radiators shows at Chesterfield in Paris. Anyways I just purchased the SKM 140 kit and was wondering if anyone that uses these could tell me whether it is worth using the -10db switch on the mic bodies. I am running these into a Sound Devices MP2 into a DAP1. Any help would be appreciated. I've been hosting a lot of cd covers on an NBCi.com free site and just got an e-mail from someone trying to download the files. Apparently the links are dead for all the covers and I can't get on to their ftp site. So my question is for anyone out there that uses/used NBCi.com Do you know what happened? Is this temporary or gone permanently? Guess I'll be looking for somewhere else to host the covers.
