Involving the RIAA in any degree is sort of, well, stupid. There's an old saying, "if you aren't part of the solution, you are part of the problem". My advice to deal with bootleggers on ebay - contact the high bidders and offer to send them a copy of the show in question, either for B&P or (if you want to put your money where your mouth is) on your dime. Pretty fast way to shut down anyone selling stuff is to eliminate their market. Get someone hooked on trading, and we are all better off!
From: "Pink Floyd" <pnkfloydlunatic@hotmail.com> Subject: Bob Schneider Tapers for upcoming tour Date: Thu, 04 Oct 2001 16:30:51 -0500 All, Looking for tapers for Bob Schneider's upcoming tour. I have plenty of his shows for trade. He is extremely taper friendly. Just ask him before the show. If anyone plans on taping him, send me an email and the first 2 that land in my inbox will have rights to a 2 for 1 trade. I will give 2 Bob shows for one off this upcoming tour. From: acffhmorst <morst@itis.com> Subject: Re: Neumann KM 140 -10db switch Date: Thu, 4 Oct 2001 16:35:23 -0500 I don't know about the MP2, but if it has a LOT of headroom and you can adjust the gain as low as +10dB then you might not need to pad the mics. I have a beyer preamp and the lowest gain setting is +20. With a very loud sound, the preamp's inputs will clip, so I use the mic bodies' pads if I think I will need to. I will give you a hint though, unless you are hurting for gain, the pads won't really hurt the sound (they are neumann circuitry!) and it's not impossible to click them on while the music is playing, but it's quite a level boost! On the other hand, if you NEVER clip your preamp even with heavy metal thunder, then leave 'em off. . .simplest is best, right? hope this helps! -t On Thursday, October 4, 2001, at 03:50 PM, Digestifier wrote:From: andy murray <andyjah420@yahoo.com> > Subject: Neumann KM 140 -10db switch > Date: Wed, 3 Oct 2001 21:39:35 -0700 (PDT) > Good evening everyone, Glad to see all is well in > DATland. It is only TAO (track at once), however. A bit of a bummer. CDRWin is my favorite for DAO (Disk At Once), although unique. It allows cuesheet edits without too long of a learning curve. From: Kevin Brown <kevin5brown@yahoo.com> Subject: Newbie DAT Q's, revisited Date: Thu, 4 Oct 2001 17:02:49 -0700 (PDT) I saw these questions asked a while ago, but never found the responses for them: 1. How often should the heads be wet cleaned? (I do a 10s dry clean every 20 hrs.) Whether I try and do it myself, or have a professional shop do it. Should I just wait until the error counts go up? Or at some set point: 250 hrs, 500 hrs? How much does it cost to get, say, Pro Digital to do it? (Tascam DA-40.) 2. I've read all about not leaving tapes in the deck when you turn it off. But I have done this many times in mine, and have seen no bad effects from it. "Old wives tail" ? Or is there a real reason why I shouldn't do this. Before the band came on I had (normal) levels and thought everything was fine, when I went to start the tape I saw the levels brickwalling on my deck, while the master deck was fine. I stopped and started the deck, still brickwalling. I had to power down then power up to get accurate levels. What gives? I have just received a double set of CD's from "A night for a landmine free world" 3/14/01 El Rey Theater LA, CA The disks are a board source, then mastered professionally Musicians as followed: Megann Ahern, Matt Cartsonis, Mike Martt, Phil Cody, Peter Himmelman, Pete Droge, Chris Stills &Peter Case It's a 2 disk set I'll take 20 Marc

You can keep the DAT's as long as you can give me one audio copy & one shn copy with a tracklist. The show sounds great, source info is listed below. I was a little disappointed with the minimal amount of mic stands I saw last night, it was a great show & I know it will make the rounds eventually. Please remember to share the music ! From: "scott charles" <scochar@hotmail.com> Subject: re: skm140 -10 db switch Date: Fri, 05 Oct 2001 11:56:04 well, I used my set that I just got for the first time last night - the music they were playing in the club before the bands was very loud so I used it as a test - went to the bathroom and checked the levels, they were way loud. So I engaged the -10 db and it looks like it might be ok. On a furthur note, This was the lineage: 140->ps-2->ad-20->(split - coax to M1, optical to Sharp MT77 MD for backup) I had noticed this when testing that the optical out seemed higher on the AD-20, and in fact, the level meters were pegged most of the night on the MD. The levels on the M1 were in line more or less where they should be, -12 steady peaking near 0. I havent actually listened to more than a snippet from each source and they both sound fine. On a related note, is there any product that combines a p48 supply, a preamp, and an A/D in one (small stealthy) package? _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp

I've got a few tapes that when played the display flashes a red "Warning" at me while playing. My old Sony PCM-2500 would flash warning when a tape jam or mechanical tracking problem occured, but this is not the case with this deck as the tape plays fine and ejects cleanly. Anyone familiar with this deck, or better yet, anyone have a manual I could (swap, buy, trade, etc) get a copy of? -- Wayne D. Hoxsie Jr. wayne@hoxnet.com http://www.hoxnet.com PGP Key ID 138BCEE1
