Subject: Limiter Use (Tascam DA-P1)
Date: Sun, 21 Oct 2001 13:41:53 -0400
I know that our goal as engineers is to preserve as acurately as possible
the musical information at a show, and that goal mandates the preservation
of dynamic range as far as possible. However, I also know that in my attempt
to get my levels as close to Odb, at each show I do end up going over once
or twice.
So here's the question, is the small sacrifice in dynamic range caused by
using the limiter on my DA-P1 reason enough not to click it on? Has anyone
else been using the limiter of their DA-P1? Any thoughts?

Subject: "VH1's Concert for NY" for trade (shortly)!
Date: Sun, 21 Oct 2001 14:02:40 EDT
I recorded the entire VH1 concert to S-VHS (using a Sony SLV-R5 HiFi VCR with
MANUAL audio levels!! I chose the feed from my roof antenna via PBS Ch 13's
NYC transmission- far cleaner looking- and sounding than VH1).
At the same time, I recorded JUST the musical performances (including the SNL
impression of Bush doing "Stairway to Heaven" and Sandler's "Operaman") to
CD-Rs using a HHB-850. I did the track IDs live and was pretty good at it.
SO; Im offering up the AUDIO of the concert for trade on CDR (music only;
some "choice" banter in between sets). I have to fix a couple of things and
it'll be a 3 CDR set (80 min blanks) when complete. I need a few days to
finish.
Always looking for U2/Costello/Joe Jackson/ Bluegrass/ but Im open to
anything well recorded.

Hi folk,
I am trying to contact a Japanese trader named Kazu. His page is located here --> http://www.geocities.co.jp/MusicStar-Vocal/8740/
No e-mail address is included, although he obviously just recorded Neil Young :)
Thanks

Hey all,
I guess I was too busy on some other projects...
Unfortunately, I missed Lauire's recent US Tour
(the first one I have missed in about 4 years).
Did anyone out there record any of her shows on the
US Tour 2001? Who was in the band?
I would be most grateful to hear any show from this recent tour.
Lots to trade in return.
Thanks ;)
JOHN

I've uploaded a 5 second sample of this 16-bit 44.1K wave file for your
perusal. I don't know how to adequately describe why it looks weird, but
above and below the 0 axis the wave appears to have an offset issue, or
some low-resolution characteristic that I can only identify as an offset
issue, or perhaps just really low resolution from extremely low recording
levels. What does this look like?

hey now!
Came back and have spot checked what seems to be a very nice copy of Tool's
show at Freedom Hall. Lower level Left
side 3rd row. Marcsounds -> D-7. Marcsounds are similiar to CSB's except
they have an 18V power supply instead of 9V and they have an adjustable bass
rolloff with din-switches. I used a 9dB/octave rolloff (I think at 80Hz),
which seemed to be a very ?lucky? choice. The folks around me either sat
down
or hardly talked at all--no alcohol at the show kept the rowdiness down.
The performance was strong and the vocals came out quite clear...hard
sometimes to get them well from the audience.
A single 90m will get that set plus the tricky set opener.
Looking for ABB Louisville KY 10/31/90, U2 Lexington KY 5/01, or hot
NOJazzfest sets. Send lists.
peace,
Chris Mescia

hi fellow datters
i just taped 3 shows in the D.C. area (king's x at jaxx on friday, nils lofgren in
annapolis on saturday and sunday), and hope to tape ian hunter in allentown, PA on tuesday
& ian again possibly next sunday at the TLA in philly
i'm interested trading for other recent shows by these artists, especially king's x
upcoming show at the trocadero on tuesday, and nils lofgren's friday show in annapolis
that i missed (while rocking out at KX at jaxx)
nils varied his setlists greatly over the 3 days he played in annapolis, and the 2 shows i
saw were 2 of his best ever - seeing him with a rocking band (tim bierry on drums) makes
all the difference - WOW! great stuff
king's x were great at jaxx and ty the gtrist told me that they are varying the set every
night (as well as recording them all for possibly a live album someday!!) so i would love
to get some more shows from this tour
have tons to trade, check out my lists & drop me a line if interested, thanks for the b-w

I'll try for third time lucky. Having bought a DAT deck through eBay and got
a result on buying mics. through this list in the space of three days it's
worth a try to find a digital cable as well :)
I'm looking for the dual input and output cable please suitable for Sony
TCD-D8 deck.
Thanks to everyone who responded to my plea for mics. BTW.
