From: "Todd Ramsden" <tramsden@earthlink.net> Subject: Extra SCI Taper tix--Syracuse, Lehigh, Blacksburg, Chapel Hil Date: Mon, 22 Oct 2001 18:55:17 -0400 Well, it looks like I'll only be able to make a more reasonable 4 shows, not the 8 show SCI tour I was hoping to manage. So I've got extra taper tickets for several shows, one ticket to each of the following shows. Don't have the seat info with me, but they are all in the taper sections, except Lehigh which is gen admission floor. Looking for face, which is $25 a ticket I believe. 10/28 Syracuse, NY 10/30 Lehigh Univ, Bethlehem, PA 11/5 Blacksburg, VA 11/7 Chapel Hill, NC Preference goes first to tapers with rigs, then patchers, then the general Cheesy public. From: Adam Smith <adaml@lanset.com> Subject: Nak Mic Repair Reply-To: adaml@lanset.com Date: Mon, 22 Oct 2001 19:05:47 -0700 Hi, I have finally found someone who will repair Nak microphones and thought I'd pass this along. His name is Stephen Sank of the Talking Dog Transducer Company. stephensank.com He is an authorized Nakamichi service center. Of course it would have been too easy for the techs at Nak to tell me this when I contacted them several months ago. He also offers a phantom power conversion for the 1 & 300's. I'm sure there are a few 300 users out there who would like to eliminate the need for batteries. I plan to send him my broken mic and I'll post my experience when it is returned. Adam
From: Adam Smith <adaml@lanset.com> Subject: Matrix and on stage mic placement Reply-To: adaml@lanset.com Date: Mon, 22 Oct 2001 19:26:53 -0700 Hello, I have a few questions about mic placement for matrix and other recordings. I will be recording at a small club of about 100 where mostly vocals only are coming out of the PA. There are two PA speakers mounted approximately 12-15 ft off the ground. Some shows a sbd feed is available others not. Because of the seats up front 3 ft will be the highest the mic stand can be raised. When using a matrix feed the mics would be a few horizontal feet from the speakers and around ten vertical feet from them. I'm wondering what kind of delay I need if any. Is 1 ms a foot a good rule of thumb? When just running the mics from that position (Cardioids) I'm wondering how well the mics will pick up the vocals? Will the sound be relatively balanced or will the mics mainly pick up the individual amps and the drums on the stage? Any and all feedback from experienced folks would be greatly appreciated thanks, Adam
