I think this may have been broadcast around 10 days ago in the UK. Various
artists performing songs from stage musical shows. Midge Ure and Heather
Nova did a duet of Phantom of the Opera.
Did anyone record this?

Hey;
I am looking for a taper to tape the Curtis Mayfield tribute (w/
bill summers,jon cleary, and mercurio) at TIP'S FRI-NOV. 16TH. I won't be
able to make it, but would like to hear it if possible. If you can help,
please get in touch with me. I have 6000+ digital hours to trade and lots
of great, yet obscure NOLA artists (among many many others).
Were the recent Tipitina's Kimock as weak as I heard?!
Take Care,

Hi all,
I'm looking for any tapers who are taping, or have taped, any shows on
MD/DAT of classic rock/rock (and some metal) bands. I tape/collect a wide
variety from AC/DC to ZZ Top and everywhere inbetween and have taped quite a
few bands of this type in 2001. I'm a uni-decker right now, so I'm basically
looking to trade for other MD/DAT>cdr shows.
If you have anything of these types and would like to trade, please contact
me via email. Thanks.

one of my friends sent me this regarding security at the tool show in
houston.. (FYI)
<><><><><><><>
Man, I took some equipment to Houston with me Sunday night in an attempt
to record the Tool concert. But security was INSANE. They made people
empty
out their pockets, lift their shirts, lift their pant legs...they were
using
security wands on everyone, etc. etc. I guess it's good because they're
being safe, but it sucks cause I didn't get to record the show.
The show was fucking incredible though. Seriously. I've been to alot
of
shows and that was hands down the most amazing concert I've seen. I'm not
even that big of a Tool fan and I had my mind blown. I'll have to tell you
about it when we talk. Incredible...

I havent grovelled in a long time, but I thought I would try you guys. When
SKB last played at the Wetlands, tapes were abundant....several different
stage tapes, the immaculate Soundfield, some amazing B&K's from the pole, etc
for this reason, I didnt bring my patch deck to the Bowery this last time
because I thought I would just add to the confusion. I was wrong. There were
only a few rigs running.... The one I had a line on, (senn's) had lots of
problems. The Soundfield was there, as were some other Neumann and shoepps
would anybody be willing to help me out with a dat or cd copy so I can get
them spread on the Kimock list? Nobody there has heard the show yet...
if anybody is interested in any of those aforementioned SKB 12-00 tapes let
me know...
i aslo have a recently transferred Jerry Joseph/Kimock/JohnBell tape that

let me know if you guys are interested

Subject: RE: Palm Pilot Lists
Date: Tue, 30 Oct 2001 21:56:27 -0800
Well, if you're looking to edit your list on the palm you might want to try
ThinkDB [http://www.thinkingbytes.com/] or HanDBase
[http://www.ddhsoftware.com/]. These work fairly well if you keep in mind
that your palm is a small, simple machine that will really only small,
simple databases.
I was impressed with both of these applications but wasn't too happy with
the proprietary data storage formats and difficulty in
structuring/restructuring the data they contained in a timely way.
As of late I've started storing my list as xml files:
http://www.crater.net/taping/list/artists.xml
http://www.crater.net/taping/list/list.xml
http://www.crater.net/taping/list/venues.xml
http://www.crater.net/taping/list/artists/gd.xml
http://www.crater.net/taping/list/artists/sci.xml
http://www.crater.net/taping/list/artists/coltrane.xml
So, how do you get from those files to a html, text, csv, or other file?
Easy, XSLT.
This file (list.xsl):
http://www.crater.net/taping/list/list.xsl
Transforms these xml files into this much more attractive file (list.html):
http://www.crater.net/taping/list/list.html
list.html is fairly large and takes a minute to load - it is currently a
single large table. It needs to be changed to multiple, smaller tables.
That should be easy, read on...
This xsl file is about as complex as any are going to get. XSLT stands for
Xml Stylesheet Language Transformation and list.xsl is a fairly readable and
compact definition that maps the xml files to a single html file.
XSLT can produce just about any data format you're interested in, so it
would be trivial to tweak list.xsl to produce text or csv.
XSLT is a full language and supports any number of more specific reports
like "a csv file of all Grateful Dead shows that you have on dat from the
70's that were in New York".
XSLT requires no compiler, just an XSL implementation. Two free
implementations are apache's Xalan [http://xml.apache.org/] and Microsofts
msxsl.exe [http://www.microsoft.com].
For this application, you could simply write an xsl transformation that
generates either lightweight html, plain text, or a csv file that is
importable into a Palm app (such as ThinkDB, HanDBase, or TealDoc).
For me xml/xsl solve a few problems I had with previous solutions:
1. With online services like etree you rely on their database, which does
crash periodically and could lose your data. You trust them to maintain and
backup your list. With this system I have and backup all files.
2. The data and the view of the data are seperate here. If you've ever
maintained a single html or text list you know what I mean.
If you want to make the band's name bold you wind up doing the same edit
over and over throughout the file, likely screwing up a few times.
For example as I mentioned earlier, list.html is now a big table which takes
a while to load. If I want to change the html so that it's a series of
smaller tables or something even more lightweight I just make a new
stylesheet. I don't touch the actual list data files, I just tweak the file
that defines how they're transformed.
3. I don't need any proprietary applications or servers to edit or view the
data, it's all stored as plain ascii text files. It beats other text-based
storage because it has the structure of an xml file. Because xml is a
standard there are many parsers like xerces [http://xml.apache.org] and
transformers like xalan [http://jakarta.apache.org] available for it.
4. Should I want to use a db server or other data storage system I'm still
covered because of the structured nature of xml and the fact that xml
becoming a standard data exchange format. It would pretty trivial to write
a Python, Perl, or perhaps even a shell script that inserts the contents of
the xml files into a database.
This xsl file was my first attempt at xsl. I bought "XSLT Programmer's
Reference 2nd Edition" by Michael Kay and it took me a total of 3 hours to
design, implement, debug, and tweak it.
Anyway, there's my long-winded answer that is 25% related to the question
;-).

I'm looking for some kind soul with the hardware to capture video from an
upcoming Sundance channel show. It's a half hour special on my little
brother's movie Donnie Darko. I'd love to get this in some high quality video
format (maybe to be burned to DVD-R later), so I can have a permanent
archived copy. At the moment, if I can at least get it saved as a decent
AVI or MPG file, I can figure out what to do with it down the road.
If anyone has any experience with this (and gets the Sundance channel),
PLEASE e-mail me. It's very important, and I'll be happy to send you
anything from my tradelist as compensation.
Thanks.
(The show is called "Anatomy of a Scene" and is scheduled for this
Sunday at 7:30 p.m. EST. There are some other broadcast dates, but
that's the first one.)
