For you European heads, Saviour Machine will be playing at Christmas
Rock Night this year. CRN will take place December 7-9 in Ennepetal,
Germany. Saviour Machine will be playing on Sunday the 9th. I made an
excellent 2 CDR set of their performance at Cornerstone 2001 that I would
love to trade for the CRN show. Eric was very cool about letting me record
at Cornerstone and didn't mind me trading it; don't know about the CRN
venue taping policy.
The Violet Burning will also be playing at CRN on Friday, Dec. 7th, and
I have several TVB shows to trade, as well.

Hi all,
I recently acquired a brand new Sony 7 pin digital coax cable and
would like to get it modified so it can do both digital in and out.
Is there a place where I can get it done hopefully locally in San Francisco Bay Area? If not, where can I send it in (and the approximate price of this mod job?)
Cheers

Subject: Peak level meters on M1
Date: Tue, 06 Nov 2001 18:27:31
On more than one occasion, I have had my peak recording levels show
"OVER" while taping a show. When I have listened to the show later, I don't
hear the dreaded clipping everyone tries to avoid. Are the M1's meters just
extra conservative?
As an experiment, I have purposely recorded at higher levels to hear
the result. Here's the process: I connect my M1's line out to a bass
rolloff filter and then to my CD burner's analog inputs (this also reduces
the excessive bass of this recording). I play the DAT, making sure the
burner's meters never exceed 0 and burn to a CD-RW. I then reverse the
connections, playing the CD-RW through the burner's analog outputs, the
rolloff filter, and then into the line in of the M1. I intentionally set
the recording levels so that the average peak is at 0 and the highest peaks
register "OVER." I end up with a recording that has less bass, higher
volume, and no distortion that I can hear, even at high volume on my home
speakers.
Although most traders wouldn't want an analog copy, I end up with a
better sounding listening copy of that concert. To ask my question a
different way, is there a safe recording level above that which registers
"OVER" on the M1 meters? Anyone else experience the same thing with their
M1s?

Bandwidth Thanks: I believe this is my fifth post, so it's high time to
offer something back to the group.

Well, I hate to tell you this, but it's already sold!
I'd like to take a moment to thank you for your expert analysis of the
situation. I thought the rest of the list would enjoy it as well. What
exactly did you do when you didn't have anonymous email? Kill small
animals instead?

Subject: extra MMW 10/27/01 on DAT for B+P
Date: Tue, 6 Nov 2001 15:00:22 -0500
This is for the MMW show at RPI Fieldhouse in Troy, NY on
10/27/01. It is their full set as they opened for SCI and was
recorded w/ DPA 4023 mics right behind the SBD, DFC. It's
on one KAO 60m DAT.
In return, I'd like a sealed Sony or Maxell 60 or 90m DAT plus postage.
First to respond after the Digest hits my mailbox gets it (unless you're
willing to do B+P's for others, which I would give preference to...in
which case tell me how many you're willing to make).

Subject: dpa 4060 powering options??
Date: Tue, 6 Nov 2001 12:44:03 -0800 (PST)
hey there, i'm looking at a pair of 4060 mini omnis and was
wondering about how to power them, right now i have a pcm-m1
that has the plug-in power on the mic input, i was wondering if
it can correctly bias a set of 4060s or if i need to either get
the DPA battery box (9v)to power them or a seperate preamp
w/phantom power and the 48v phantom microdot->XLR adapter??
since the m1 runs off of 3 volts, the plug in power bias can't
be more than 2 volts or so, i'm wondering if that will be enough
headroom for the mics or not...also, does anyone know if the p48
adapter is active or passive?
on the recording side, i've run jecklin disc recordings before
in the studio with radio shack onmi condenser capsules <noisy
but cheep!> and i really like the 'hemisphere' pickup pattern,
but certainly haven't run one at a show, i know that MBHO makes
a jecklin disc, but other than that haven't heard or seen too
much about it...anyone else ever heard any jecklin disc
recordings?? l8r..Nick

I never talked w/Popa, but once (about 5 years ago) his manager, Lisa (if
remember her's name) contacted me after a search on the net where she
found I got a dat by Popa I recorded in Italy at Pistoia Blues Festival
(7/6/96)
She was very rude and she wrote me to delete immediately from my list , if
not she would ask to lawyers to write me
I answered that my list was intended only to trade and I didn't sell
anything (as well explained at the top of my list ).
I explained that in same night Phish and Santana (they were highlights of
the festival) permitted recordings.
I told her the philosophy of tradings, that we tapers not only want preserve
recordings, but want also help unknown artist (as Popa was) spreadings
recordings to other people (as Phish, ABB, G.Dead and the same Santana did)
She answered me asking for the dat, and if she and Popa could think it was
good sounding, may be permitted to listed .
I was upset and I decided don't send anything and delete this dat from my
list.
Since that day, I've taped, also from FM, other Popa recordings, but those,
remembering that discussion, are not to trade.
btw- Popa is a good guitarist and his music is well played with soul, sweat
and passion. He worth a check if in your town
BTW2- If now he permits tapes trading, I suppose finally he changed his
manager ;-)

I have one on a homebuilt system (AMD 1Ghz, 512MB
133Mhz memory, Asus K7V MoBo, 30GB + 20GB HDs on
Promise Card, 2 Floppies, Nvidia 32MB DDR Video, DVD,

that kicks ass. Very happy with it, and the price was
right.

Hi folks,
Just a question to see where people are on this issue.
Imagine I had 100 - 90 meter dat tapes, with music on them and I wanted to
trade for blanks. I prefer to get 60 minute tapes back, is it ok to ask for
more 60's in return - like 150 60s to cover the 100 90s to make the tape
length equal for the trade?
I also hate to clog this forum with the results, so please mail your opinion
to prennix@fortnet.org and I will post the results.
take care,
Colorado Paul

hey,
just purchased a new MAC G4. purchased an midiman audiophile 2496 card to
go with it. card looks great with both analog & digtal inputs (and midi which
i don't need). unfortuneately i have yet to find software that does what most
of us dat-heads needs, the ability to record shows from either dat or
cassette or reel and then the ability to do some fix up work on a show
involving maybe some editing and some basic eq and then be able to burn cds
from that. sounds simple enough. anyone have any experience with that
particular soundcard? anyone have any recommendations on software that might
work? as a last resort i'd even purchase a new soundcard if i have to. i
guess i'm looking for the mac equivalent of sound forge or something like
that. any help would be appreciated. thanks.
