Nothing printed on the ticket. No kind of warning, just a bunch of tapers left on the sidewalk with their mic stands in their hands. We were told it was a decision by Gregg because he has a new band. The venue is known to be taper-friendly. Bob ``````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` "People need celebration in their life. We need magic. Much to trade. ------------------------------ From: Delano Subject: Soundforge 4.5/CoolEdit questions Date: Sat, 10 Nov 2001 01:30:00 -0500 I have a Dr John show that sounds very good with the exception of a fm noise found at 7,644Hz - 7,813Hz and another larger noise at 15,486Hz - 15,800Hz. I have both Soundforge 4.5 and CoolEdit 2000 and am currently playing with both in an attempt to remove these 2 noises. There are a few places where there is no music with the exception of these noises. Is it possible to sample this noise then create a filter to remove it? If not, is it possible to normalize a specific frequency range? Is there a way to make alterations to the spectrum analysis (i.e. redraw the graph)? Which of the 2 programs will yield better results. I know there are calibrations to be done for recording (azimuth etc) but is there anything I need to calibrate or adjust for playback, aside from tape type? I don't have a manual, obviously.<< Besides the aforementioned tape bias and azimuth correction, you need to re-check the Dolby reference level and perhaps the absolute playback speed. But all this only makes full sense if the tapes were originally recorded on your (well-adjusted) ZX-7. If the tapes origin is unknown then you're stabbing in the dark, since many cassette deck brands were woefully maladjusted, even straight from the factory. It is generally safer to try to play back on the same deck that made the tapes. An added complication might be that Nakamichi once digressed from the rest of the planet in having a more rigorous, purist interpretation of the equalization standards...the upshot being that tapes recorded elsewhere could sometimes sound a bit dim on a Nak. This piece was used for 3 months, and helped make some nice tapes. I have the original box and the all paper work that came with it, including the registration card. Also I have the connector for using an external power supply. This pre amp has very little sign of use on it. Kept it in Pelican case always. It was purchased from Cascade Media and I have the receipt. This is a great Pre Amp to have if you do the occasional Stealth taping, since it works off AA's as well as an external source(lead Acid). LED's are nice and bright. Has 80/160 Bass Roll-Off. Does 48v or 12v phantom power Has a limiter. Has XLR in's and Out's as well as an 1/8" minijack Tape Out (Great for use with Sony DATman.) Mick ------------------------------ From: "dAMN bAND" Subject: Novelist Ken Kesey is dead at 66 Date: Sat, 10 Nov 2001 12:44:14 -0600 Novelist Ken Kesey is dead at 66 Author of ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest’ was counter-culture celebrity ASSOCIATED PRESS GRANTS PASS, Ore., Nov. 10 — Ken Kesey, the psychedelic pioneer who wrote the 1960s novels “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” and “Sometimes a Great Notion” and who became famous as a counter-culture figure leading his LSD-fueled Merry Pranksters on a cross-country bus ride, died Saturday from complications following cancer surgery on his liver. Kesey died at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Eugene, Ore., two weeks after cancer surgery to remove 40 percent of his liver. He was 66. “He’s gone too soon and he will leave a big gap. Always the leader, now he leads the way again,” said Ken Babbs, a longtime friend. After studying writing at Stanford University, Kesey burst onto the literary scene in 1962 with “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” followed quickly with “Sometimes a Great Notion” in 1964, then went 28 years before publishing his third major novel. In 1964, he rode across the country in an old school bus named Furthur driven by Neal Cassidy, hero of Jack Kerouac’s beat generation classic, “On The Road.” The bus was filled with pals who called themselves the Merry Pranksters and sought enlightenment through the psychedelic drug LSD. The odyssey was immortalized in Tom Wolfe’s 1968 account, “The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test.” _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ From: "Boogie Shafer" Subject: anyone got any extra eeproms? Any normalizing pointers for the music file > when I have a DAT transfered to the hard drive on my PC? If you normalize, normalize the whole thing (or at least one full CD) at a time, otherwise you get volume jumps between tracks. It's safe to normalize the max to 100%; don't normalize the average.
