This neat device is capable of playing and recording to mp3 format, and =
uses a
harddisk (6 to 40 G) to store it's data. Recording can be done at up to =
160 kbit/s.
Anyone has any experience with this thing ? Might it be a replacement for =
portable
DAT-devices ? I mean issues like battery life while recording, user =
interface, quality of the analog
input cirquits etc. I am not mentioning the disadvantage of lossy =
compression over
pure pcm-storage. We have gone over that many times before :-)

It baffles me why people would go out and buy a recorder that fits in their
hand and then buy a rechargeable battery pack which is as large if not
larger than the deck itself, and just as heavy. If you're into lugging
around extra gear, power cables, or are recording something which goes for
over 3 hours continuously without a single break then go for it.
But understand that ANY portable DAT gear made by Sony -- D7/8, D100/M1 --
and also the SBM-1, can be powered for over three hours using off-the-shelf
NiMH rechargeable batteries. I do it on a regular basis. Spend $30 for an
intelligent charger rather than the cheap basic chargers like those which
plug directly into the wall (ditch the one Sony gives you). Understand that
you have them in the charger within a day or two of needing them...don't
charge and leave on a shelf for weeks as they lose some of their charge over
time...and that's all the "maintenance" the batteries will need. In some of
these devices you can go over four hours, possibly longer with the newest
1800mAH batteries. Yes you won't get "up to 10 service years" like gel
cells but so what they're 3 bucks each!
Rechargeable NiMH cells bring two advantages which in my book are all that
matters...they're cheaper than single use batteries (Alkaline, Lithium, etc)
as are just about any rechargeable batteries over the long run, and they're
INTERNAL...one less contraption to worry about at a show. If you're going
to a festival, big deal, you take an extra set with you. Still smaller and
lighter than any external battery.

Hi,
I was thinking of picking up a denecke ps-2
phantom power supply in the near future and
I was curious if anyone on the list, who has
one and is not using it anymore, wanted to
sell it.
Thanks!

I'm selling a lot of my dats (for the price of a blank each) because
I'm getting out of taping all together. The list is pretty long so I'll
spare the bandwidth here. Email me if you want the list. The bands on
the list include the usual (Phish, moe., Grateful Dead, WSP, and many
others).

Having to clone an entire DAT collection, I purchased a Sony DTC-57ES, kept
like a baby from a guy.
I'm using the dat as player, to clone into HD
After cloned about 60 dats, I'm getting some trouble to see some dats (120
or 180m) stopping after 35-40 minutes.
I knew that older Sony model got problem with transport, but I read also
that this model was improved.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Hello. These spiff-a-riffic mics are about 1 1/2 years old but only
have about 5-6 hours of usage. I'll sell them for $125 + shipping OBO.
International customers are quite welcome. (I live in the U.S.)
Any questions? Just send me an e-mail.
Thanks!
