This is true. Thank goodness supply exceeds demand :)
From my experience dats for sale ought to be at priced at current market
prices for new dat blanks, or below. For example, I've exchanged recorded
dats for blank cdr's (1 dat for three cdr's). The transaction is equivilent
to a dat for dat exchange that is below current new dat market prices by at
least 32%.
I believe in the karma part where doing something good for someone will,
somewhere down the line, return to populate my future with peace and
harmony. Sharing the music is a great way...

I *hardly* think that matters.
In my opinion you can only justify the exchange of cash for tapes by saying
you selling the tapes, which happen to have music on them...
...in that case current market prices should dictate the exchange rate, not
what you paid back in the day.
Let's not taint the list with sales for profit offers.

Actually, blank DATs are still more than $10 each at many hi-fi
shops that sell them. And some people are actually trading with
these DATs!

hey now,
everytime i got to buy the d8 i can't help but think i should be getting a
dap1. unfortunately, i can't spring for a brand new dap1. which would you
do? a new d8 or a used dap1? on ebay it looks like i could probably get a
dap1 for the same price of a d8 w/oade cable. with the new d8 you get a
warranty plus you can buy the extended warranty. decent deck. with the dap1
you get the best but you are buying without a warranty. oh the dilemma. any
suggestions?

OK Seth!
I have had the most respect for you and several
others on this very informative list. You have
answered this non-tech heads stupid questions several
times for which I am grateful, very ,very grateful.
But just because you bought tapes for $10 years ago,
is that what you would ask for them today? I guess
that would be only fair... Or maybe you should do B+Ps
for a blank Maxell ( $ 3.25 ) and $6.75 cash.
I am sorry and know I will be an outcast for this ,
but like everything else ( well most everything) ,
drive it off the lot and lose 15 to 25 % of its value.
I understand the good gent paid good money for them
back then , but should I ask $1400 for my 4 1/2 year
old DA-P1 ? I generally do not do guilt , but I could
not do that in good conscious.
Well its been a while since I have been flamed but
I am having a bad year and its things like this that
bother me. So flame on but I see this as the same old
Audio vs DDS story. To each his own.
Well as I have wasted a ton of B/W here in this
pissing contest I will offer anything off my list to
the first two from each time zone, world wide who
respond. Just ask and I will send list. If you do not
hear from me you are not a winner....
Safe and Happy Holidays to all and their friends and
families, Please help the needy...
Peace, Michael

While I agree that the price for tapes should be current market price,
what I disagree with is a claim that buying something for $10 and
selling it for $5 results in a _profit_. (Less of a loss than it
should, perhaps, but that isn't a profit.)

I have a question for all you techies out there.
I just received a Sony rcd-w1 standalone cd burner, and I would like to
transfer my dats to cdr's with this unit. The unit only excepts "audio
only discs", and I was wondering if or how I might be able to trick the
unit, so I can use regular cdr discs instead. I have heard of this
method being a possibility.
Any insight would be appreciated.

Namaste Y'all and howdy Charles,
SJ played here (flagstaff) about five months ago...
I was able to corner him (as he was loading a blank
into his D8, in fact) and ask about his taping
policy...
Just a few minutes before this exchange i spoke with
his sister, who took it as a personal afront, and of
course answered with an emphatic NO...
Stanley on the other hand replied with a semi-squemish
yes and made me give my word that it would not "fall
into enemy hands".
He does not want his stuff offered up in large
internet forums (as we've even had bootleggers lurking
here on datheads) or in downloadable formats (MP3 SHN
etc...) which is just fine cuz i am
computer-illiterate.
I have honored his request...
He took my addy and e-mail down and said he was going
to contact me for a clone...he has yet to do so and i
neglected to get his contact info (as i thought he's
more reliable than i)...so maybe bring your home deck
or another porta DAT and offer him up a tape as well.
So, just politely ask him, as he is recording all his
shows to his own D8 this tour for an upcoming
album...and if you run a matrix he might like it
better than his own tape...
take care

Try mounting a small fan in back of the deck, and keep it pointed at the
heat sinks. I have found that the Sony transport problems usually coincide
with the deck getting unusually hot. Keep that fan on and that will likely
solve the problem. If not, the deck needs service.
RE:=========================================================================

Having to clone an entire DAT collection, I purchased a Sony DTC-57ES, kept
like a baby from a guy.
I'm using the dat as player, to clone into HD
After cloned about 60 dats, I'm getting some trouble to see some dats (120
or 180m) stopping after 35-40 minutes.
I knew that older Sony model got problem with transport, but I read also
that this model was improved.
Any ideas?

Hi,
Well, i got the Zoltrix 6 Pro. I installed it in Win2k and it is not
working correctly. Please help :)
When I play a wav (44.1 stereo) file out of the SPDIF OUT to my Tascam
DA-20, the Tascam can see the signal as 44.1 but then after some times the
Tascam starts jumping around not able to get a signal lock on what frequency sampling
rate is being used. The reason I am doing this (which is lucky) is I
need to put something back to DAT, and my second DAT deck is busted.
This is my only audio device in the computer. As for digital input, it
appears to be working fine.
Any ideas? I have dubbed with my Tascam to D8 no problem before so I know
the digital i/o to my Tascam is ok.
Thanks,
Jason
