D8's definitely dominate the taping scene in the small portable Sony realm. However, that does not mean they are the best. As a previous poster stated, it all depends on your stealthing needs. If you do not plan on stealthing, the P1 is pretty much the king. Money is the other question: Can you afford the P1? How serious are you? If the answer is no I can not afford it or yes, I DO plan on doing a certain amount of stealthing..... Then the M1 is the correct answer. I have owned mine for over 3 years and it is a tank. The loading mechanism blows the D8 away, it will power on 2 AA's instead of 4, and it has a 3/4 sized head instead of a 1/2 sized head. 3 strikes and you are out: D8 This crap about going at the end of the chain comes from inexperienced or lazy tapers. If you own an M1 w/ an OADE battery, the proper cables and a splitter, there is no taping situation that you can not handle. Throw in a preamp mod. a couple AA's and a pair of OADE mics or skip the preamp mod. and get a pair of Coresounds and you are ready to stealth. But you better act fast if you want a Sony portable. On the other hand if you can afford the P1 and you don't plan on stealthing....... Go for it! Reply-To: "Jeff Frank" <jsfrank@mindspring.com> Date: Thu, 22 Nov 2001 00:03:50 -0600 It depends on what he's using it for. Most people use external pre's and A>D converters. Also, if he will be patching he'll be relegated to the end of the line in most situations. My D8 has been a tank. It's only needed service once in the last 5 1/2 years. One reason is I almost never FF or RW in it. From: KindTaper@aol.com Subject: Anyone have live Kings of Convenience? Date: Fri, 23 Nov 2001 10:03:31 EST Any Norwegian tapers out there have any live KOC? Surely there is an FM of these guys going around. They just did a week long Italian tour as well. They cancelled their tour over hear thanks to Osama and co. If you have anything by them and will trade, please e-mail me. I'll find something in my collection you will like. Thanks, Wes Kindtaper@aol.com

From: GuitarBud7@aol.com Subject: ISO/WTB: Sony 7-pin to coax Digi In/Out Cable Date: Fri, 23 Nov 2001 12:53:31 EST hello everyone on the day before thanksgiving, I was cleaning up my basement and organizing all my music gear(power amps, mixers, PA heads, speakers etc...) and I began to take my taping gear out of my bag. I took everything out one by one. and when i took out my 7pin to coax digi cable, it snapped on me. the cable actually just split in two. i am looking for anybody who can help me out. If anyone has a 7-pin to coax digi in/out (perhaps maybe an oade one) that they could possibly sell to me I wonder be very grateful. I know sonic sense and oade will not let you buy any from them anymore. so if any of you could sell me one or point me in the direction of someone who would sell me one i would appreciate it! thanks for your time mark
