Sony experts please help! I am unsuccessful in recording from a
portable Sony CD player to my M1 using an optical cable and a
miniplug adapter. I can monitor the portable's audio but I get the
"Copy Prohibit message" on the M1. I tried discs burned from a
computer, burned on a CD-R home deck, and store bought discs and it
did not make a difference in terms of SCMS on the M1. This has me
confused. I am able to record from my eight year old Sony home CD
player using the optical cable and from and a one year old Sony DVD
player using a Coax cable (did not try the optical yet.) why not the
portable as well? I thought the M1 allowed me to make one digital
copy of protected material? Next question: Does anyone know of a new
CD portable that I can make digital copies from?
Thanks,
--
Thomas

Subject: dissappointed with ProDigital service

OK, 3 months ago, I called Paul Plotnik at ProDigital and was assured that
my repairs would only take 2 weeks (12 - 2 = 10 extra weeks). We have now
spoken a number of times, and it is constantly one delay after
another. For 11 weeks, they were not able to determine the problem with my
Tascam CDRW700. First they assured me it was the drive mechanism, then it
was something related to the power, then after they had made those 2
substitutions, they realized neither was the problem (bad capacitor) and
had to order yet another part. We spoke yet again after I did not receive
anything after 2 weeks. They told me that they did not yet have the part
but that they would order it soon. At the end of that message, I
re-iterated that 12 weeks is more than 20% of the trading year and gave
them my credit card info to ensure prompt shipment (items to be received on
11/27). When I return from my holidaze, I find a message on my machine
stating ProDigital would not be able to mail until they had my credit card
info (which they already had). *#$&!
My only other experience with ProDigital was solely with dat-decks and was
surprised at the quick turn-around. Although the ProDigital website
specifically states that they can handle Tascam CDRW700 repairs, my recent
experience causes me to doubt this.
After some persistence, I was able to get Paul to pick up the additional
tab for 2nd day shipping after the recent goof on his end so I am once
again hoping that these units will be in-hand on Wednesday. I know many of
you have requested trades during the past months but I was unable to make
any substantial trades due to the ongoing delays. I have taped a number of
shows during the past month and hope to make a few offers as soon as this
mandated trading sabbatical is through.
Take Care,
Delano

Anybody got good recs for service centers here in the Seattle Area? I have
a SONY PCM-R300 that just like that just started to make these weird
solenoid clicking noise (from machine) and sends the error meters to the
roof. There is digi-noise from the output when this happens. I only got
about 60 hours on the head and have made attempts to dry clean it with tape
to no avail.
Thanks,
ANDY
