Hello, the 5 rapidly turned in to 10. The offer is now closed.
A few thoughts. Minidiscers are welcome, but don't expect me to know how to run the thing or be interested in learning. I don't want to have to deal with starting and stopping each person in the chain's deck. If the patcher has the same deck as I run I will deal with it. If you run something else, elect one of your brothers, with a similar deck, to handle your part of the chain.
Nugs to you all--Kevin

I'll first apologize for the following rant.
It's time we fix this problem. Tapes made from Schoeps rigs need to be
labeled correctly. You always see 64's, or say, cmc6/4>V2>ad100>dap1. This
is wrong, the signal path is mk4>cmc6>V2>ad100>dap1 so really the first
example should be 46's, I know it may seem confusing or contrary to what you
know but it is correct, we need to label our tapes as the signal flows.

Matt and all,
This is not exactly true. As a registered use of DAT2WAV, I got an alpha
copy of version 1.2 which allows writing to DAT on other goodies. I
recieved the aphpa copy about a year ago, so I'd imagine that the release of
1.2 has happened or will happen shortly. Below is a clip from the readme.tx
file for DAT2WAV version 1.2:
What's new in 1.2?
==================
We've added a LOT of new features in 1.2. The biggest new feature is
the ability to write DAT tapes. A summary of the new features:
- WAV2DAT - write WAV and MP3 files to tape
- DAT2DAT - use two drives to make an exact copy of a tape
- DAT2IMG - make a copy of a tape to an image file
- IMG2DAT - write an image file to tape
- Media Recognition System (MRS) support
- seeking to specific points on tape before reading
- forcing reading tape to physical end of tape
- user setable lead-in, lead-out, intertrack silence gaps
- a whole lot more code to help diagnose problems
I also own a copy of vdat and have found DAT2WAV to be much more stable and
deal better with tape and drive anomolies. vdat does offer a nice Windows
interface. Both programs have proven to pull bit accurate extracions from
audio DATs. Hope this helps the discussion.

So... this is what is called a revisioninst
history (or at least I would call it). You
are saying the correct labelling is your
opinion. In many cases its possible to rewrite
history, but generally naming conventions are
hard to change, even if they do not make
much sense.
#example should be 46's, I know it may seem confusing or contrary to what you
#know but it is correct, we need to label our tapes as the signal flows.
This goes against they way Schoeps themselves have
been numbering them. Posthorn still advertises:
MSTC64
CMH64
And their manual says:
Performance specifications of VMS 5 U with Schoeps CMC 64 (cardioid):
Equivalent noise level: 27 dB (CCIR, qps); 17 dB (A-weighted)
If you try to revise this it will cause confusion and
certainly if schoeps disagrees with you, so will others
about your correctness.
# labeled correctly. You always see 64's, or say, cmc6/4>V2>ad100>dap1. This
# is wrong, the signal path is mk4>cmc6>V2>ad100>dap1 so really the first
This is pretty irrelevent. The capsulses alone without
some mechanism to provide the amplifier capabilities
are pretty useless. You cannot use a CMC without
a mk. You can use a mk with a CMC, the above mentioned,
some cable + VMS or reutelhuber supply.
For all these cases the mk is constant, so it can
be dropped from the naming convention. Why carry
around a name for a component if you have a name
for the system? The name CMC-64 is an adequate
and standard description of a microphone system, so
its irrelevent that it goes through a mk4 -> CMC6
as it will not work without the CMC or another
equivalent. It is not advantageous to introduce
another naming system and cleary confusing to use
one that says CMC-46 (a T-powered amplifier +
a switchable capsule).

Alan (and all),
I don't get why people say "vDAT allows you to stay in windows". you don't
have to exit windows to run DAT2WAV, you just open the command prompt
window up in Win9x or whatever OS you're using and run the command line
there. there is NO need to exit Windows or 95% of the Win-related OS users
would be hosed. i have found DAT2WAV to be much more reliable for what i
bought the drive to do....read audio from the DAT. i am not completely
sure that i trust the DDS drives to write audio, remember, home audio decks
have a small amount of error correction built in with the outputs. minor
errors that are transmitted in the DDS drive transfer of audio are not
present on home audio decks. i am not talking about multi-second diginoise
tears or dropouts, those get through no matter what, but minor errors are
transferred with the DDS drive.

Did anyone record Levon Helm & the Barn Burners last night at Sweet Carolines in Winchester, Va. I hear that this band is really hot. Levon can no longer sing, but I hear that they are playing some killer blues. Look for them next week 12/8/01 at The Chameleon Club, Lancaster, Pa.
If you did please let me know.

Thank you to everyone who responded to my previous E mail. All of you have
been very helpful. I'm still hoping I can find information on a digital
soundcard for my computer. Yes, I would prefer the soundcard than a
standalone burner that will further crowd up my room.
Thanks.

OK, after about 2 months, I finally got back online. In the process of
getting divorced, my x-wife cancelled the internet service and then my
computer crashed. I got lucky and was able to retreive all my email
addresses. If there is anyone who I have an unfinished trade with and I
have not emailed you yet, please give me a swift kick (I'm not asking you,
I'm telling you...) and remind me. All pending trades have gone out except
a couple that I did not yet have a mailing address to send them to. I
apologise for any delay and hope that no one posted anything bad about me
when I was offline. If there has been any problem, please tell me so I can
correct it. Give me a few days to clear up any problems I may still be
unaware of, and next week I will post for the next round of trading for my
still uncirculated masters from the fall. I know some of you have been
waiting for certain of them, so I'm trying to get the ball (tapes) rolling
again asap. Anyone who has received tapes from my last mailing, please
email me and confirm that you all got them ok. Sorry if any emails have
bounced or not been responded to, but the last day that I got email was
10/10/01. My email addy mallness@surfbest.net IS working again, so here I
am back in action, I missed you all too....

I had the same experience. The only reason I continue to use this
card is because it does read my Sony LP mode tapes and converts them
to 16bit 44.1 on the fly. Their tech support was terrible and it took
quite a long time to even get the card to work at all. Now it does
work fine for what it does, but for most of my work, I use other
things.

Is there software that will record/resample at the same time?
