Imagine the following: AKG 148 > Oade M 148 > ... "Well I ran the 148's with the 248..... or was it the 248's with the 148?" Date: Tue, 27 Nov 2001 17:25:04 -0800 (PST) hey there, i'm kicking around getting a dds drive for doing dat->wav transfers, at ~200 bucks they seem like a pretty viable soultuion instead of getting a home deck but i'm wondering if anyone has bought one of the "auido-ready" refurb'd dds drives at: http://www.mashek.com/DATdrives/index.html =========quote======================================= Nick brought up a great thread that I'd like to see continued. I will buy one of these drives instead of repairing my Sony decks. Has anybody used one and had success? I assume they read SP mode and not the LP modes? Is a DOS environment necessary for the transfers? Please post if you have any experience with them. thanks, Jonathan

This > is wrong, the signal path is mk4>cmc6>V2>ad100>dap1 so really the first > example should be 46's, Well, my Neumann AK40s and KM100 bodies magically become KM140s when I put them together -- and nobody's suggesting I write the signal path as "AK40 > KM100 > . . ." It doesn't really make too much sense when everyone (even Neumann) suggests KM140 is correct. In the same way, it doesn't make sense to call a CMC64 a "mk4 > cmc6", since even Schoeps doesn't call them that. You can argue semantics till the cows come home, but if it's common parlance, there's not much you can do about it. (For another example, ask a bunch of "hackers" how they feel about the news media's use of that word...) - A.P.

From: James Bateman <jbateman@efn.org> Subject: ISO Wilco & New Wilco Taping Policy. Date: Sat, 01 Dec 2001 16:33:56 -0800 Greetings. I am in search of WILCO from the Roseland theater, Portland Oregon 11/29/01. I saw a couple of tapers there and I am hoping you might be an this list. If you caught this show, please e-mail me off list, I'm sure I have a wilco/tweedy related tape to intrigue you. I noticed the following after the show, or else I would have brought my deck to Portland: WILCO Announces Official Taping Policy WILCO does permit audio taping of live performances. We do not allow direct patches into the soundboard. We also do not allow any type of video taping. We encourage the free trade of the music. We do not, however, encourage or support sale of these recordings. Note: we reserve the right to revoke or suspend these taping rights on a moment's notice for any reason we deem necessary. If and when this does happen we'll post a notice on Wilcoworld. --- -James
From: Mark Mayhle <mark@mayhle.com> Subject: Zefiro ZA2 and Windows XP Date: Sat, 1 Dec 2001 19:48:10 -0600 (CST) I just moved my ZA2 into a faster machine (dual Celerons at 450MHz) than the ancient P90 box I had it in, and for the first time it seems to be working in Windows without channel swapping (I've only been able to use it in DOS the past several years). I installed it under Windows 2000 and in initial tests it seems to be working perfectly. I was thinking of installing Windows XP on this machine and wonder if anyone has upgraded from NT4 or W2K to XP with a ZA2 installed, and whether the card continued to function properly? -- Mark Mayhle mark@mayhle.com
From: "Pete Heilig" <pete@peteheilig.com> Subject: FW: Denny Laine/Pete Best/Spencer Davis honor Harrison Date: Sat, 1 Dec 2001 21:26:58 -0500 did anyone get this?=20 > Denny Laine, Others Honor Harrison > By NOAH ISACKSON, Associated Press Writer > December 1, 2001, 7:06 AM EST > CHICAGO -- In the 60s, Denny Laine and his Moody Blues band opened for the Beatles. On Saturday he was onstage again, this time with former Beatles drummer Pete Best paying tribute to George Harrison. Two days after hearing Harrison, 58, had died of cancer, Laine, Best, Spencer Davis, and more than a dozen other musicians remembered the "quiet Beatle" at the House of Blues. "It was an uncanny feeling," said Laine, who also played in Paul McCartney's post-Beatles group, Wings. "George was a very close friend. It's comforting to play like this." As many as 16 musicians -- including the members of American English, a costumed Beatles cover band -- packed the stage to play a range of Beatles songs, from "Norwegian Wood" to "Let it Be". A crowd of several hundred, often recognizing the music after a single guitar riff, applauded wildly, flickering their lighters, and pumping their fists. "It's kind of eerie," said Ruth Membiela, 31. "But it's very good to be here." The segues between songs were often somber. "George was a very special person," Laine said. "I know you all loved him. I loved him. God bless you George." At one point, Davis reminded the crowd that John Lennon, shot by a deranged fan in 1980, had also died young. "This is something for John and George," Davis said before launching into a rendition of "Got to Get You Into My Life". Best, who embarked on his own solo career, was silent through most of the show. His most animated display came late in the concert when a chant of "Best, Best, Best" moved the drummer to stand and bow. <=20
