In any case, it's quite possible to run the AD2K off of a smaller
12V battery than the 7.0 AH monster sold by eco charge. I run mine off
of a 5.0 AH battery that weighs exactly 4 lbs with the 4-pin connector;
this battery (PowerSonic PS-1250 F1) is about the size of two stacked
PCM-M1 dat decks, and ought to run the AD2K for 5.0 AH/0.8 A = 6.25 hrs.
At the time that I bought the above, I also picked up a smaller battery
(i thought it was a 3.4 AH model, but their website doesn't show any such
beast...maybe it was a 3.0 or 2.9....), since i figured that I could get
about 3 hrs use out of such a battery without depleting it too severely.
(And with that size cell, you're down to around 2 lbs...)
As long as you're handy enough to solder your own connections, it's
lots cheaper to build your own system (and that much more customizable)
than it is to go with ecocharge. Of course, the flip side is that when
things crap out (like, you short your battery and melt your power cable),
you only have yourself to blame....

Thank you to all the folks who provided ways of changing a 48KHz file to a
44.1KHz file without resampling. Turns out there are many ways to skin
this cat! The simplest, since I already was using Cool Edit 2000, turned
out to be using Edit/Adjust Sample Rate for about a 2-click operation. I
had been futzing around in the Transform/Time-Pitch area without success.

I do... I started using my SBM-1 with my D8 and didn't stop when I
purchased a DA-P1. I've also seen a lot of tapes in circulation that do,
so I think the answer is yes folks do.

ProDigital (who stands behind their work!!!) for a
friend who ran into financial troubles. Can't wait
for him to recover so here it is. Pannasonic SV-255
w/ Oade mod. Head just replaces and clean bill of
health by Paul. The external power cable is set up to
allow external battery power. This deck should last a
long time. Let's talk, no low ballers.

Subject: Skipping Problems

Sorry for two posts in one day, but I had one other question that I hadn't seen asked lately. Currently, I run AT853 > Sound Pros Bat Box > Zefiro Inbox > D8. When I am recording, I sometimes have skips or cut outs in my tapes when i move the inbox or the dat. I am wondering if my digital cable is messed up or the 7 pin connector is broken. It's not the batteries or the skipping of the tape from shaking the dat. It seems to come from when I move the inbox. Any ideas guys?

I have a Tascam DA-P1 and enjoy making amateur field
recordings (nature, factories, etc..), but, I have always
thought the recordings sounded fairly poor. I am using
an inexpensive Audio Technica mic and recently read on
rec.audio.pro about pre-amps.
Do I need a pre-amp for my setup? If I do, what preamps would
you recommend for a hobbiest?

I use the SBM1 with my DAP1. I had to buy the $100 7 pin Sony cable>>RCA connector from Sonic Sense for the connection. The Oade Bro's do a RCA coax modification to the SBM1 so you can use a regular patch cord. The 24 bit line in mod. @ Oade is supposed to be killer too. I sent my SBM1 for this mod and can't wait to get it back. I supposed to make it sound pretty darn close to an Apogee AD1000.

pcm-m1 for sale. It comes with manual, box,
wall-wart..etc. Bought new for 700.00...looking to
get 550.00. Great deal. Also have a oade active i/o
cable for the deck...new condition...that I will sell
"only as a package" with the pcm-m1. I will sell the
deck and cable for 690.00. you cannot buy these
cables anymore...and they retaiuled for 160.00. If
you would like to purchase just the deck that would be
fine too...I just won't sell the cable seperately
until the deck is sold. I am selling because I have
two portables and am getting a full-size deck to
replace one of them. I will also include a audio
